Looking for a Dog or Puppy

We own our house. We have three kids, two cats(one is disabled) and a dog. We're looking for a dog with a bit of spunk (one who will be between 50lbs and up) Not to spunky but one who can make our old man live a little. He's our couch potato I call him our LaPrador (as he thinks he is a toy poodle and can just lounge around on our laps) We took him a few years ago and was WAY over weight. We've got him down to a great weight and the vet said he looks Awesome. (he does have allergies (seasonal and food) and fatty mass) but he is in great health. Hasn't had one ear infections since being with us. And he used to have Chronic ear infections. So if you have a dog that needs a home Please let us know. Looking to adopt a Ragdoll Kitty (Capital Region)

My family is looking to adopt a female ragdoll cat 8 weeks to 2 years of age. We prefer to adopt a kitten so we can properly socialize her but if you have a friendly, family oriented, house cat we would absolutely concider her! We dont want to adopt a cat that is skiddish and hides all day! We want to be able to hold, pet, and love her all day long. We have a small dog (who loves everyone). He is vaccinated and fixed and sees our vet regularly and we can provide references. I have not been able to find any breeders in the area so if anyone can point me in the right direction we would appreciate that! We understand that these can be expensive kittys and are willing and able to pay a reasonable fee however we are not looking to spend over $350 for a kitten. Please send pictures and information!

Its one thing asking for proof of Insurance of your house proving you own your house or showing what breeds are acceptable. Its another thing asking for drivers license, Social Security card, birth certificate etc. I am skiddish now a days giving out all that info especially to Volunteers with all this identity theft. I maybe paranoid but I honestly think its a good thing on my part. I may not have a huge credit rating but what credit rating I do have I would like to keep. I am one who if I can't pay for it in cash I dont get it. (I do not own credit cards) I have a bank account I keep my money for bills in. Other than that Its cash and carry.

People have no right judging people because of money. Money does not buy happiness so just because you can afford to do everything (Vetting toys etc.) Does not mean your animals are happy.
What makes everyone think their dogs need every single vaccine Known to man for their pets. Yes vaccinate against rabies (easy go to your local towns website and see when they do a rabies clinic 5bucks) I know even several people that don't even get their children their vaccines. Don't make them bad parents. and their kids are healthier than mine.

Yes my dog is vaccinated Yes I own my own home and Yes I had an emergency for my dog (seizure from a Flea medicine Advantix) I had to rush him in why because he was allergic to it.
What right do you all have to say that one can't own a pet because they don't own their own home. That is totally and utterly pathetic. MILLIONS of people keep their pets even though they rent. If these landlords would stop stipulating that one can't have a PET a child etc. These things would not happen. YES there are pathetic people out there that dont train their pets properly so they don't destroy things but those people are ruining it for MILLIONS of renters.
And the SPCA's are getting out of hand and so are the Rescues. They want everything I'm surprised they don't want to see how much you have in your 401K or your bank account.
My point is that STOP judging Renters, Welfare recipients, uneducated etc.

Free 6yr old dog to GOOD home (Rotterdam)

I have a 6 year old "Papillon" it is in quotations, because although I spent the asking price for a full bred, I really don't think he is. He is too big and his fur is to coarse. The only reason I am mentioning this is because I don't want anyone getting their hopes up that he is a pure bred little purse dog, because he is not. Long story short, my mother passed away and now my family and I have to move back home with my father and we can not bring him with us. He is a very special dog in the respect that he has to go to a family who will really take the time to work with him getting familiar with you. He is a very sweet dog around myself and the kids, but ever since we had hi nuetered about 3 1/2 years ago is is very skittish around other people. He also has been pulling his fur out from his back recently, and is not a fan of the baths and medication that we have to put on him. This is why I am telling you that he is special. He is a very high maintinece dog. I am not asking for a rehoming fee or anything like that because I don't believe that someone should have to pay to take this dog on. I am going to be very honest though and ask LOTS of questions and if I don't feel right about a home, I absolutely will not send him. I really do love this dog, but unfortuately there are just other things (my dad) that we need to take care of.

I was asked to prove that I would have a suitable dwelling for a dog. They called my landlord, who vouched that I was an excellent tenant, and would definitely recommend me. I was a tenant in the same house for nearly 10 yrs, with no intention to leave. 4 months later, the same landlord (another dog owner) was booting me out since he was now going to take over my apt due to unforeseen reasons. Basicaly, despite them checking everything out, conditions change, and not always due to the person in question's faults. Imagine trying to say anyone who rents would be prohibited from owning a pet? HAH. (I did find a place to settle for that would accept my pet. I am a loyal to the pet I take responsibilty for.)

Can you imagine the nerve of the rescues you approached to ask for documentation? Did it ever occur to you that they are not in existence to please all you "I WANT, I WANT" people out there? They exist to advocate for the animal and to find a good and permanent home. This will hopefully prevent the animal from becoming one of the posts seen on CL daily: I have to give up, I have to find a home for, I have to part with, I hate to since he is like my son but I have to, and so on. Anyone with sincere intentions would not object to answering the questions asked. Nothing is free and as soon as you realize this, you will be a responsible adult who can approach a rescue, answer the questions asked, and go home with a great animal to join your family.

If you are a single mom and can't afford the cost to purchase a puppy and can't give your kids everything they need (you said both things), then you really can not afford to take care of a dog. Whether you've been around them all your life or not, you can not afford to keep one and all it needs right now. And, yes, it needs shots.

I suggest you get them a stuffed dog and wait til you are better off financially.

Please don't get a dog, free or otherwise. It is so unfair to take a dog in your home if you can't afford to do for it what it needs. You are being selfish and not doing the dog a favor.

Cat looking for best friend (Brant Lake - will travel)

We have a very affectionate black female cat, spayed, about 4.5 years old. She LOVES people, and would love nothing more than a person to follow around who will give her lots of attention! Here, the problem is that she is beating up one of our other female cats. RE: free poodle special needs (in addition to last post)

most dogs do not come with the type of training you require and for the organizations that do it the training they pay for costs them in the thousands of dollars. If you want to do this on your own it will cost you at least $500 for just the beginning training and that doenst include vet bills or rent increases or cost of spay/neuter. Also Petsmart is $110 for classes but PetCo is $99. I think Petsmart has coupons for $10 off and PetCo has coupons for $15 off their respective classes. Be careful of the trainer though, not all of them are good. Some of them have done training for a while and have certifications beyond the company they work for, those are the ones you want to go to, not just the Petsmart and Petco trained people.

As for a standard poodle, last I heard Heaven Sent animal rescue who works out of the clifton park Petsmart has a few, they may not anymore but the adoption fee is $250 and they will probably work with you to bring the fee down since it will be for a special needs child. Never hurts to call and ask them.

RE: $200 mixed breed dog

thats nothing, try checking out what a poodle cross costs from a so called "breeder" I've seen them in the thousands. Sure they can tell people they dont shed and their hypo allergenic but only half the dog is low shed and hypo allergenic but that doesnt stop them from charging outrageous prices for what are essentially a purposefully bred mutt.

Ragdoll kitten looking for a good home (clifton park, ny)

I currently have a Beautiful Ragdoll kitten that i need to rehome. We love him dearly, we just cant have another kitten where we live, because we already have two cats.

Its a baby boy, and he has long white fur, with black-tipped ears, and some incredible, must see, markings. With his long white fur, he has the most georgeous baby blue eyes. He is only 6 mos old, and incrediably loveable. He is definately a lap cat who loves attention. He gets along with kids, as well as other cats and/or kittens, but im not too sure about dogs, because he is just a kitten, and he hasn't been around any dogs, but if you just give it a little time, im pretty sure that he would be able to adjust with a dog around.

He just recently got all of his shots taken care of, and he was recently neutered...so he come with all of his papers.

2 ferrets need new home! (Schenectady)

I have 2 ferrets (descented, fixed and female) that need a new home by this weekend. They are both very friendly and love to play. They don't bite or scratch and I have the vet record of when they were brought to the vet for their physical and distemper shots.They are trained to go to their cage to use the litter box, but usually are allowed to explore the ferret-proofed parts of my home. Two little Rat Terrier guys rescued from a Puppy-Mill and are now looking for the loving home they have never had. "Ferret" is 9 mos old, white with red on his head and some freckles. He is 10 lbs, neutered, UTD on shots ,crate trained and pretty clean if he gets some exercise. He is full of energy and would do well in a home with a fenced yard and some older, active kids. I need to find my girl a better home. I don't feel like she's getting the attention which she deserves and loves. So I'd like to see her go to a home where she would be loved and the center of attention. She is skittish, Ive had her for well over a year now (She's 2yrs.) and she still is shy to come to you at first, but once you touch her once its hard to make her stop wanting to be petted! She really is a sweetie. She loves playing with any furry/feathery toys and will carry them around. She likes to climb to the top of the cat tree and hang out. She doesnt really have any bad vices, other than being skittish but thats not really a bad thing. I wouldn't reccomend she go to a home with small children as their energy level my keep her in hiding and you'll probably never see her. She's never scratched anybody or even tried. She's white with lots of grey spots, kinda like a cow lol. and of course doesnt have a tail. Although there is a little knub there that you can feel when you pet her. She does get along fine with other cats and curls up with my older male on the couch. Im not sure how she would be around dogs. I have quite a few birds and she's fine with them. I really hate to see her go but I think it may be best for her. she's not a finicky eater, and will eat pretty much whatever you give her. She is spayed, has been tested for feline aids & leukemia(felv & FIV) and is negative. She's due for her rabies this spring. if you may be interested in my sweet girl, please let me know a little about your household. I also prefer she go to a homeowner. Nothing against renters but I know how that can be if you have to move, I dont want her to end up back on here. black long haired cat needs home URGENT. (cohoes)

I recently took in a kitty that my boyfriend had found wandering the street. I usually wouldn't do this living in cohoes but baxter, as we call him, was just one big matt and wouldn't leave my boyfriend's side. He's by no means ferral, sweetest cat I've ever met (I have 2 of my own) and I would really like to see him go to a good home. Right now I have him locked in the bedroom just incase he has anything that can get my cats sick. Although he seems fine he should have a feline lukemia test and his rabies vaccine. He's also not neutered. Which is why I'm not asking for any adoption fee, just someone trustworthy enough to take him to the vet and get him fixed.
Since this poor guy was matted to the bone, I (being a groomer) shaved him so he looks a little silly right now but in a month or 2 he should be grown back and have his gorgeous pitch black coat back.
Since he's cooped up in my room 24/7 I am trying really hard to find him a home as soon as possible. Please email me or call me, I'm up pretty late so I can take phone calls any time.

Beautiful Shepherd Mix needs new home

Angus is about two years old. We took him in last winter after he was removed from his owner. He had been left chained outside in extremely cold weather without proper food, water or shelter. Unfortunately, he and our other male have been having some issues recentley. We always had been intending to find him a good home but hadn't really been actively looking until now. He is very friendly, and is fine around our 6 yr old daughter. He has been neutered and is up to date on shots. He needs to go to an active home where he will get plenty of exercise, a country setting or large fenced in yard would be ideal. He gets along fine with our female but should probably not go to a home with another male. I would prefer he go to a homeowner, a small adoption fee will be required as I'd like serious inquiries only. Also a home visit will be required, I will not let this guy be put back into the same situation from which he came.

Sweet vintage Small Cat or Dog Xmas Stocking (Altamont)

This is adorable. If your cat or dog (or ferret, rat or snake) needs his or her own Christmas stocking hanging on your mantle this year, this stocking would be perfect. I don't know what it dates to but would think 1950s. I got it with a box of old Xmas ornaments. Its very small and you would not be able to fit anything in there but it is in proportion to your small animal as our stockings are in proportion to us.

It is 3" if I measure it diagonally across to the toe. If I were to put it on my dog, it would be a good fit on his paw. I didn't, of course.

aquarium plants (amsterdam)

Dont remember what kind they are, but they propagate by runners, grow pretty quickly and will be fine in just about any light. They're light green with long thin leaves. I have quite a few cuttings some with roots some without, it doesnt really matter as theyll grow anyways. A few pieces even have some nice moss growing on them. Anyways I have more of them bagged up and they're free to anyone who would want them :)

I am just wondering why people can't put the price of the animal(the so called adoption fee) and also what kind of dog on the posting. And also a picture.
You look in a catalog for something and guess what the price size and picture is available for you to review, and then people decide if they want it or not. Well it should be the same way for adopting a animals. Less confusion and less bull, and less emails.

Orange and white cat desperately needs his own home!! (Brant Lake - will travel)

I have several cats, (all fixed and indoors) and unfortunately a couple of them that were introduced as adults do not get along. This adorable guy is one of them! He's always fighting with one of our other dominant cats, getting picked on by one of our other males, or chasing our non-dominant female. We have a baby on the way, and I can't have this fighting going on with an infant here! Not to mention that it is just NOT good for any of the cats involved!!!

He is neutered, about 2 years old, and litter box trained. He is SOOOO affectionate with people! He would be someone's best friend! He's terrific with kids - not a cat to get grumpy when his tail gets pulled or anything. I think he would also be okay with a mild-mannered dog, but we don't have dogs here, so I can't say for sure.

He is such a sweetheart, and deserves a better home than he has here!!

-The playfulness of a kitten is it's charm, but also it's down side! They require constant attention AND you have to kitten-proof your home! We are self employed from our home office so your dogs will have someone with them most of the day.
We will open our home to your dog while you go on vacation, or come to your home for feedings, walks and loving attention.
Visits in your home are limited to the Grafton/Petersburg/Brunswick/Berlin area.
We never schedule multiple families in our home at the same time. So scheduling is done on a "first come - first served" basis.
Crates are not used - unless you request them. Our goal is to keep your dog's visit with us as close to their lifestyle at home as possible.
Quiet, peaceful setting. Daily walks and playtime provided.
References available on request. And scheduled home "meet and greets" are welcome.
