You're father was one of the lucky ones of years past. Do you know how hard it is to get a job for a large sized company that actually has great benefits? It doesn't exist anymore. In fact, there are very few companies that even have a pension plan. The average employee is expendable and is laid off at any given moment so the company can survive. These are different times than when you were a kid, and you cannot possibly compare.
Capitalism has morphed into a monster. This is not your father's capitalism. Its poisonous tentacles have infiltrated our lifeline, our very govt. And not just Obama, it's been cumulating for quite some time.
Did you know that the ratio of ceo to average worker pay in 1980 was 42 X. Know what is was in 2008? 319X And that number actually came down a bit because of the recession. Boy, they deserve to keep it all, don't they? They even wanted to abolish the death tax.
So when you sit there and get all mad that the government is worse than the hand that feeds you, just remember that most of us don't work for big corporations like Microsoft, who, by the way, actually have pension plans and 401ks and even pay their employee medical insurance plans in full. Most of us are small working people who work our asses off trying to make a living. And no, $65,000 is a pipe dream for most of us. But that's ok, we are honest working people who don't feel the need to be millionaires. But let's be honest... corporations are for profit and nothing else. They answer to the stockholders and noone else. They could care less about the customer service rep that's getting chewed out over the phone because someone in a board room decided it wasn't good for business to pay for a client's claim.
I don't know what you do for a living or what company you work for, but consider yourself lucky to have a pension...most of us never had one. So then what, invest in my own IRA to watch it go down the drain because of the greedy capitalists on Wall street are hedging against reaction to the market instead of actually doing their job. We are in for a world of haves and have nots. It's that simple. No more middle class.

The troubles of Gov. David A. Paterson of New York, followed by those of two of the state’s congressmen, Charles B. Rangel and Eric J. Massa, have added to the ranks of episodes involving prominent Democrats like Eliot Spitzer, Rod R. Blagojevich and John Edwards.

Taken together, the cases have opened the party to the same lines of criticism that Democrats, led by Representatives Nancy Pelosi, now the House speaker, and Rahm Emanuel, now White House chief of staff, used effectively against Republicans in winning control of the House and Senate four years ago.

The mix of power and the temptations of corruption can be a compelling political narrative at any time. But with voters appearing to be in an angry mood and many already inclined to view all things Washington with mistrust, the risks for Democrats could be that much greater this year.

With Election Day still eight months away, there is time to avert a history-is-repeating-itself storyline. But Democrats, who are already on the defensive over the economy, health care and federal spending and are facing a re-energized conservative movement, suddenly have a set of ethical issues to deflect as well. “Speaker Pelosi famously promised the most open, honest and ethical Congress in history,” Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the Republican leader, said Thursday. “Yet here we go again.”

In 2006, when Democrats were battling for control of the House, the message of their campaign against the Republicans could be boiled down to a three-word slogan: culture of corruption. Democratic leaders aggressively seized on each indictment of a Republican member of Congress or lobbyist, building an argument that the controlling party had become arrogant and was in urgent need of a housecleaning.

So is that moment — in reverse fashion — now approaching for Democrats?

Tim Kaine, a former Virginia governor and chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Thursday that the recent spate of allegations against several political figures in his party was troubling.

But he said the recent cases — largely revolving around New York politicians — had hardly reached the nationwide pitch that buffeted Republicans four years ago. Then, Tom DeLay, the Republican House leader, was indicted in Texas, and the influence-peddling scandal tied to the lobbyist Jack Abramoff touched several Republican members of Congress.

“I would never say that folks should be blithe about their ethical responsibilities. But I think it’s quite a bit different,” Mr. Kaine said Thursday in an interview. “But a couple things that happened in the same week in one state is different than the kind of corruption that roped members of Congress in from all over the country.”

Ms. Pelosi moved quickly this week to deal with escalating criticism surrounding Mr. Rangel, who was admonished by the House ethics committee for accepting corporate-sponsored trips to the Caribbean. He remains under investigation on more serious accusations.

Mr. Rangel stepped down on Wednesday as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, heading off any possibility of a drawn-out political battle over his fate. The National Republican Congressional Committee has been intensifying its pressure on Democratic lawmakers in districts across the country to return political contributions from Mr. Rangel, who was among the most generous contributors to fellow members of Congress.

“All Aboard for the Ride to Victory,” screams a poster depicting Mr. Rangel against a train, showing how many Democratic campaigns he helped finance. Republicans have sent around the old Rangel campaign posters this week to highlight his influence.

Since last Friday, 29 House Democrats have given back or donated to charity more than $400,000 in contributions from Mr. Rangel’s three political fund-raising committees. But several others have not returned the money. Representative Michael E. McMahon, Democrat of New York, is among those who have not returned the money, in his case more than $70,383.

Ms. Pelosi dismissed the criticism on Thursday that Democrats had not lived up to their promise to sweep away a culture of corruption on Capitol Hill. She also noted that she had established an outside group to receive complaints about members of Congress, which could be easily referred to the House ethics committee.

“My commitment to the American people is that the public trust will always be honored,” Ms. Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “And on the floor of the House, that happens.”

President Obama, who built his campaign around a pledge to change the way Washington works and to strengthen transparency and ethics, has followed a practice of generally not commenting on the scandals or allegations involving the Democratic politicians. Months ago, several of his senior advisers worked behind the scenes to try to dissuade Governor Paterson from running for election, a pitch that failed.

Last week, Mr. Paterson conceded that he would not be on the ticket in the fall, but he has declined to step down. The White House has said that it has no intention of wading into the Paterson situation again, but several advisers said they were following the developments with interest.

It is the case of another governor, perhaps, that has drawn even more attention from those inside the West Wing.

Mr. Blagojevich, who was impeached last year as the governor of Illinois, faces a criminal trial in June. The proceedings are expected to be unfolding at the very moment that Democrats are battling in several races, including a campaign for the Senate seat once held by the man who now sits in the Oval Office.

Reconciliation was used several times to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit for the working poor during the 1990s and the early aughts. It was used (again, by a Republican-controlled Senate) to create in 1997 the beneficial Children's Health Insurance Program and the wasteful privatization experiment known as Medicare Advantage. It's been used repeatedly to set federal policy regarding higher education loans and grants.

According to political scientist Joshua Tucker (via Ezra Klein), there were 19 reconciliation bills between 1981 and 2005, "11 of which were signed by Republican presidents, five of which were signed by Democratic presidents, three of which were vetoed by Democratic presidents, and none of which were vetoed by Republican presidents."

"By my admittedly simple classification scheme," Tucker concludes, "this would suggest that 14 of the 19 times reconciliation was used between FY1981–FY2005, it was used to advance Republican interests."

This countries money system is designed to fail. Why you ask? It is because when we want money we ask the Federal Reserve to print some up in return we must pay interest on this money essentially to pay it back. But because they only print the principle and not the interest it is designed to always have debt. We need to change the Federal Reserve and our money system if we ever get out of debt. By not printing up enough money we need to pay interest off somewhere down the line someone will lose because of it. Thats where we are today. So now that we are hurting as a whole they try to fix it by having the Fed Res. print more money. In turn making much less value. Now because are money is worth less and across the world countries rely on our money it is crippling the rest of the world as well. Its not anyones fault in Europe or Asia. It is us. Now if we can get rid of free trade agreements and make companies start making stuff in the US and only import things we can not make here and change our money system we can become superior again. Its not the unions fault either. Its everyones fault, its inflation. People in 1950 even though they were making less then us their money was worth alot more. But do to inflation our dollar is weak. Our Dow Jones should only be at 5 or 6000 maybe 7000 tops. We need to cut out corp. greed and not allow them to donate to campaigns and lobby govt. People running for govt should be given all the same amount of money and tv time, no more no less. Every canidate must show all information about them with nothing to hide or cover up. We need to have more then 2 people to choose from as well. Healthcare can not work at the moment, we simply do not have the resorces and money available to make it happen. Everything sounds crazy but it could work. A little bit of that ism and this ism could make a good ism. Meaning take a little socialism, capitalism, etc mix em up in a pot with a few fresh ideas maybe we could have something that works. I believe each type of political system has pros and cons. Here's the "trick" that Obama, Pelosi and Reid are planning to use to ram ObamaCare through: it's called "reconciliation". As the Wall Street Journal explains, "House Democrats would pass a series of 'fixes' to the Senate bill. The Senate would then pass the House reconciliation bill, sending amendments to President Obama to a bill that -- strictly speaking -- didn't exist, because it hadn't yet emerged from the House. The House would then retroactively pass the Senate bill as is."

So by using the "reconciliation" process, the Senate will only need 51 votes to pass their socialized healthcare bill!

Regardless of the fact that the biggest reason Republican Scott Brown was elected to Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat was because he promised to help kill ObamaCare -- Democrats are still willing to use more corrupt tactics to get it passed! In fact, the liberals on the far left have their own interpretation of why Brown won: "people want more change... bolder change... more populism... and the public option is that in this healthcare fight." Check out this YouTube video where they state very clearly that the socialized healthcare "public option" is "back on the table" and will be passed by using the "reconciliation process" -- because in their minds, that's what "Americans want"!

Are they serious about using this trick to pass their bill? You BET they are. Nancy Pelosi, on a conference call with bloggers, said, "We will not be deterred from this course of getting something done one way or another, and I'm hoping it will... be mainly by passing the comprehensive bill. That's our plan."

Democrat Rep. Charles Rangel of New York stated that they are looking to start the process soon, and that he believed both chambers could muster the votes needed for passage, despite virtually unanimous GOP opposition. And Harry Reid said a scenario in which the House produces a reconciliation package "seems like a strong possibility." In fact, As of Thursday afternoon, 17 Senate Democrats were pushing Reid to use reconciliation rules to sidestep a Republican filibuster of health care reform.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested Monday that domestic violence by men has increased due to U.S. joblessness.

Reid, speaking in the midst of a Senate debate over whether to pass a $15 billion package meant to spur job creation, appeared to argue that joblessness would lead to more domestic violence.

"I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand," Reid said on the Senate floor. "Why? Men don't have jobs."
Reid said that the effects of joblessness on domestic violence were especially pronounced among men, because, Reid said, women tend to be less abusive.

"Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the time," he said.
"Men, when they're out of work, tend to become abusive," the majority leader added. "Our domestic crisis shelters in Nevada are jammed.”
Reid's remarks aren't the first controversial remarks he's made on the Senate floor. He said in the midst of December's heated healthcare debate that the Senate needed a "Rodney King" moment where members could "all try to get along," channeling the plea of King, who pleaded with L.A. to calm itself after its 1991 race riots.

The Senate supported cloture in a 62-30 vote on Monday evening.

And all the lawyers, according to Holder, are eligible to work on general detainee matters, even if there are specific parts of some cases they cannot be involved in.

Holder's admission comes in the form of an answer to a question posed last November by Republican Sen. Charles Grassley. Governor Paterson is going to close our state parks. We can't let this happen! Our parks are enjoyed by millions of people every year. They improve our quality of life, physical and mental health, and educate our children about the natural world. The worst part is that closing our parks won't end up saving the state money as it will become necessary to pay police to monitor the closed parks, to keep people out. I am hoping to organize a formal protest to save our parks, particularly John Boyd Thacher State Park which provides recreation and education to an under-served minority population and brings in significant tourism revenue each year. Crown Point and John Brown Farm historic sites in Essex County.
Johnson Hall in Fulton County.
Victoria Pool would be closed at Saratoga Spa State Park, but the rest of the park would be unaffected.

If Legislature goes along with the governor, or plugs in more money, the following would be saved:

Cherry Plain, Grafton Lakes, Minekill, Peebles Island, Schuyler Mansion, Fort Crailo and the Victoria Pool.

So, the difference between the two lists is instructive as to what these great minds are thinking. Why restore Cherry Plain and Grafton, but not Thacher, for example? The expression "arbitrary and capricious" comes to mind, not to mention insensitive and ill-considered.

Yeah it would be great if we could cut all of the useless, overpaid stiffs on the tax-payers tit but they are protected by PEF, CSEA and NSUT. The part-time kids who actually do the work are not.
I have given up on voting. The system is broken and it doesn't matter who you vote for or drive out of office. The same old shit continues. I will move to another state and get away from these crippling taxes and utility bills as soon as I can save up enough for the move.
