What does HSUS stand for (Here)
It's supposed to stand for Humane Society United States.
They very same people who are constantly flagging anyone's ad they deem unworthy.
Don't let them fool you they are wanting to control EVERYONE in the animal industry. That means you too. They want to take away our rights as US citizens and they will succeed if they are allowed to force you to adopt from their shelters ONLY. That is what they want to do by taking away your options and right's to decide for yourself.
Do some research yourself. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.

HSUS Kills Puppies
Die, die, die says Dogfight Czar John Goodwin
Newborn puppies are too dangerous to live
127 dogs, including 60 puppies, were killed by Wilkes County, North Carolina this week after their owner plead guilty to dogfighting charges.
His dogs, including 60 puppies -- including newborns like this one -- are all dead.
Newborn puppies are too expensive to save
The world's largest, wealthiest "animal protection" organization -- one with over $113 million in assets and a reported income of over $100 million -- stood by while dogs are slaughtered. HSUS advocated it, in fact.
Why?
Goodwin sez. . .
"it would very difficult and expensive to re-train the dogs, even the puppies. . ."
This is going to leave a mark, Pacelle.
Even HSUS's usual apologists aren't happy. Wayne's trying to change the subject, but the stink of HSUS's role in slaughtering innocent dogs is everywhere.
RE: to all "Humane Society" posts
First, are you people even adults??? Because, to me you sound like a couple of high school students bickering about stuff you haven't truly researched on. Especially you, whoever the one is that leaves an e-mail. You want to attack the Humane Society and PETA, go ahead. You're the one that is going to look retarded (please look this word up in the dictionary before you take it as an insult, it has other uses). The Human Society, Peta, ASPCA (which, you haven't researched to well or you would know that they are the absolute worst to get an animal from because they have very HIGH standards and if you don't pass, you can't adopted and then when they get to many they start putting them down) are all set up on a policy and a set of guidelines. IF the Humane Society here is truly breaking any rules then you HAVE to have proof. Not, "oh I went up there and the dog was under weight and they looked filthy." First off, unless you were there when the dog came in, could look at the paperwork from where the dog was logged to come in. THEN HOW ON EARTH DO YOU KNOW THE DOG WASN'T LIKE THAT WHEN IT CAME IN?????? Maybe it was the owners. And what are they suppose to do with all the animals that come in??? Just shove them in cages with one another cause they are out of room, cause they don't want to kill them?? The thing is, is you want to get on here and complain like a child about things you CLEARLY have not researched on (at all apparently), but not really get out there and try to do anything. Sorry, but voicing your opinion so you can bash the people that are trying to clean up after others people's mess, will not make you any friends to help you in your cause (unless it was to just get on here and complain). OH! And PIT BULLS were not bred to fight, whoever the smart one was that put that down. THEY WERE MEANT TO HUNT!! DO YOUR RESEARCH SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BEFORE YOU TALK. You won't look so dumb that way. : P
aftermath of a pit
i love all animals.my point is if you own a dog that has a breed history like a pit, then you should be prepared to take responsibility for there actions.pit lovers just won`t face facts your dog may love you to death, but that doesn`t mean they love everyone else..and i`m so sick of hearing how pits have an unjust bad rep..it`s not unjust.look at you statistics,a pit is diffrent than a poodle..i`m not just blowing smoke..
this is what the owner of two pits told me..i`m so sorry there very good dogs, they have never hurt any thing.we didn`t know they could get out.they have never seen farm animals.how did they get in your pen..all this just after her pits got out of there pen and attacked my llama..like it was my fault that i had a llama and that my gates were set 12inches off the ground..i had to stab one of the dogs with a pitchfork just to get it off my llama.if you don`t know a llama crying sounds like a small child.thats all i could hear.they had him on the ground one at his neck and one at his belly..i hate hurting any animal, even one that hurting mine.now i have a llama that spends most of his time hidding in a shed, and a vet bill that i`ve got to pay..if it had been a poodle that did this i would have been just as upset, but surprise, surprise it wasn`t..by the way after the attack all i asked the owner to do was keep the dogs put up till i could get my llama moved.the dogs were back running a couple hours later one had chewed his rope off the other had slipped his collar off.
so you tell me should i feel sorry for these poor poor dogs?????????
Re:
Yes the HSUS has a hidden agenda but most pet organizations do. They put on a front get you to buy into it and then do the complete opposite. I think they are right only in the aspect that to many animals are getting put down and are without homes. Any kill shelter kills puppies and kittens. Animal control picked up a pregnant dog in labor she had her puppies, when it was time for her to be put down they put down all of the puppies as well. If you were to adopt out the mom you have to pay 85 for each pup and they have to be spaid or neutered. What i don't get is why they don't do a foster program. Most of us have grown up around animals and know how to bottle feed puppies or kittens I know I do. I would love to volunteer to be a foster parent. The Aspca does fostering. I mean why punish a whole litter of puppies because they are only 2 days old and can't survive without their mother. I don't see how the people that work there do what they do. IT's a cruel place and in my opinion they have no compasion for animals or their rights at all. It needs to change and we can do it. All we have to do is go to city commision meetings and bring up the problem and the solution we think would work. Like how do they expect an animal that has been through hell to get adopted out in 3 days that's insanity. There is nothing Humane about the humane society.
Animal Welfare as compared to Animal Rights (USA)
Animal Welfare as compared to Animal Rights
Animal welfare is based on the time-honored traditional relationship of man and animal. It emphasizes respect for and concern for animals, and the concept that animals deserve to be treated humanely, provided a quality life and a humane death. Unlike the Animal Rights philosophy, Animal welfare supports responsible ownership, breeding and use of animals in agriculture, research, and other venues.
In comparison, Animal rights advocates seek the end to all breeding of animals. Their stated ultimate goal is NO USE OF ANIMALS BY MAN -- not for food, fiber, medical research nor even as pets.
In recent years, animal rights extremists have manipulated public perception with exaggerated and distorted data. They are the largest, most vocal group impacting on laws and issues relating to animals and are generally extremely well funded by people misled by their erroneous data. Animal Rights organizations spend a significant portion of the donations sent to them on such legislative initiatives. While some of their initiatives would appear superficially to make sense to the general public, they ignore much more workable alternatives that would not support the ultimate aim of abolishing the use of animals by man, and which may, as a result, have ramifications that are far more dangerous to our society than are seen at first glance. Thus, without public awareness, the rights of animal owners are being gradually eroded, while animal welfare is getting lost in the shuffle.
Some of the animal rights goals are subtle and aimed at gradually achieving their ends... like the effort to substitute "companion animal" for "pet" in our laws and vocabulary and in the process gradually destroy the concept of pet ownership and your ability to own pets.
Animal Rights Activist Own Words (Everywhere)
What Everyone Should Know about Animal Rights
Animal rights groups seek the end to all breeding of animals. Their stated ultimate goal is no use of animals by man -- for food, fiber, medical research nor even as pets. This is apparent from the quotes of their agendas and views you will find below. Animal rights and Animal Welfare have markedly different philosophies.
ANIMAL RIGHTS AND "COMPANION ANIMALS"
"We are not especially 'interested in' animals. Neither of us had ever been inordinately fond of dogs, cats, or horses in the way that many people are. We didn't 'love' animals."
-- Peter Singer*, Animal Liberation: A New Ethic for Our Treatment of Animals, 2nd ed. (New York Review of Books, 1990), Preface, p. ii.
- Peter Singer is the acknowledged founding father and chief guru of the Animal Rights movement. Singer's disciple is Ingrid Newkirk, who co-founded People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA. For more information, read About Peter Singer Who is Peter Singer?
"In a perfect world, all other-than-human animals would be free of human interference, and dogs and cats would be part of the ecological scheme, as they were before humans domesticated them and as they remain in some parts of the undeveloped world."
-- From The PETA Statement on Companion Animals
"In a perfect world, animals would be free to live their lives to the fullest: raising their young, enjoying their native environments, and following their natural instincts. However, domesticated dogs and cats cannot survive "free" in our concrete jungles, so we must take as good care of them as possible. People with the time, money, love, and patience to make a lifetime commitment to an animal can make an enormous difference by adopting from shelters or rescuing animals from a perilous life on the street. But it is also important to stop manufacturing "pets," thereby perpetuating a class of animals forced to rely on humans to survive."
-- PETA pamphlet, Companion Animals: Pets or Prisoners?
"The cat, like the dog, must disappear... We should cut the domestic cat free from our dominance by neutering, neutering, and more neutering, until our pathetic version of the cat ceases to exist."
-John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of a Changing Ethic, PETA 1982, p.15.
"It is time we demand an end to the misguided and abusive concept of animal ownership. The first step on this long, but just, road would be ending the concept of pet ownership."
-- Elliot Katz, President, In Defense of Animals, "In Defense of Animals," Spring 1997
FROM HSUS
"Human care (of animals) is simply sentimental, sympathetic patronage."
-- Dr. Michael W. Fox, HSUS, in 1988 Newsweek interview
"We have no ethical obligation to preserve the different breeds of livestock produced through selective breeding. ... One generation and out. We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding."
-- Wayne Pacelle, Senior Vice-President oF HSUS, formerly of Friends for Animals; Quoted in Animal People, May, 1993
"The life of an ant and that of my child should be granted equal consideration."
-- Wayne Pacelle, Senior Vice-President oF HSUS, formerly of Friends for Animals - In Inhumane Society, 1990
"The life of an ant and the life of my child should be accorded equal respect."
-- Wayne Pacelle, Senior Vice-President oF HSUS, formerly of Friends for Animals, The Associated Press, Jan. 15, 1989
THE TWELVE STEPS OF THE ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS AGENDA
The agenda is taken from "The politics of Animal Liberation" written by Kim Barlett, Editor of the Animals' Agenda, Nov. 1987 but a miminally modified version is part of the Green Party Platform for 2000.
THE AGENDA
Abolish by law animal research.
Outlaw the use of animals for cosmetic and product testing, classroom demonstrations and weapons development.
Vegetarian meals should be made available at all public institutions, including schools.
Eliminate all animal agriculture. (This is your food sources people)
End herbicides, pesticides, and other Agricultural chemicals. Outlaw predator control.
Transfer enforcement of animal welfare legislation away from the dept. of Agriculture
Eliminate fur ranching and end the use of furs.
Prohibit hunting, trapping and fishing.
End the international trade in wildlife goods.
Stop any further breeding of companion animals, *including purebred dogs and cats*. Spaying and neutering should be subsidized by State and Municipal governments. Commerce in domestic and exotic animals for the *pet trade* should be abolished.
End the use of animals in entertainment
ANIMAL RIGHTS...IN THE WORDS OF ITS LEADERS
"The bottom line is that people don't have the right to manipulate or to breed dogs and cats ... If people want toys they should buy inanimate objects. If they want companionship they should seek it with their own kind."
-- Ingrid Newkirk, President, PETA, "Animals," May/June 1993
"I don't use the word 'pet.' I think it's speciest language. I prefer 'companion animal.' We would no longer allow... pet shops... Eventually companion animals would be phased out."
-- (Harper's Magazine, Aug. 1988)
"One day we would like an end to pet shops and breeding animals [Dogs] would pursue their natural lives in the wild."
-- Ingrid Newkirk, Chicago Daily Herald, March 1, 1990
"I think the whole concept of private property as an ultimate 'good' has got to be replaced. There's a higher good out there than private property...."
-- David Foreman, co-founder and leader, Earth First! (Animal Rights Reporter, June, 1989)
"You don't have to own squirrels and starlings to get enjoyment from them....One day, we would like an end to pet shops and the breeding of animals. [Dogs] would pursue their natural lives in the wild....They would have full lives, not wasting at home for someone to come home in the evening and pet them and then sit there and watch TV."
-- "Where Would We Be Without Animals?", Chicago Daily Herald, March 1, 1990
"Pet ownership is an absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation."
-- Ingrid Newkirk, PETA, "Just Like Us? Toward a Notion of Animal Rights" (symposium) Harper's, August 1988, p. 50.
"Let us allow the dog to disappear from our brick and concrete jungles- from our firesides, from the leather nooses and chains by which we enslave it."
-- John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of A Changing Ethic (Washington D C, PETA, 1982). p. 15
"As the surplus of cats and dogs (artifically engineered by centuries forced breeding) declined, eventually companion animals would be phased out, and we would return to a more symbiotic relationship - enjoyment from a distance."
-- Ingrid Newkirk, "Just Like Us?......(see above)
Classic Quotes
"We feel that animals have the same rights as a retarded human child"
-- Alex Pacheco, then Chairman, People for the Ethical Treatment of animals [PETA] (New York Times, January 14, 1989)
"The theory of animal rights is simply not consistent with the theory of animal welfare or other approaches that reject the rights view and, more importantly, embrace animal exploitation. Animal rights means dramatic social changes for humans and nonhumans alike; if our bourgeois values prevent us from accepting those changes. then we have no right to call ourselves advocates of animal rights."
-- Gary Francione, Director of the Rutgers Animal Rights Law Clinic (The Animals'Voice, VOL. 4, NO. 2, pp. 54-55)
"As long as humans have rights and nonhumans do not, as is the case in the welfarist framework then nonhumans will virtually always lose when their interests conflict with human interests. Thus welfare reforms, by their very nature, can only serve to retard the pace at which animal rights goals are achieved."
-- Gary Francione and Tom Regan ("A Movement's Means Create Its Ends", Animals' Agenda, January-February, 1992)
"I think the whole concept of private property as an ultimate good has got to be replaced. There's a higher good out there than private property."
-- David Foreman, Co-Founder and Leader, Earth First! (Animal Rights Reporter, June, 1989)
In Q&A session following a speech, "Animal Rights, Human Wrongs", University Of Wisconsin-Madison, October 27, 1989, Tom Regan, when asked which he would save, a dog or a baby, if a boat capsized in the ocean, responded:
"If it were a retarded baby and a bright dog, I'd save the dog."
And lest we forget where we're seen similar rhetoric and Animal Rights trumpeted before:
"Man should not feel so superior to animals. He has not the right to."
-- Adolph Hitler, 1939

What The Humane Society Doesn't Want You To Know (Your Backyard)
Pet owners, people that have a career with animals, businesses related to animals, businesses that involve selling to pet owners, people that have businesses dependent on wholesaling to animal owners, and the entire PET TRADE INDUSTRY………………
HSUS has hit the LAUNCH button on their NATIONWIDE, ANTI-PET LAW AGENDA……………….ANIMAL RIGHTS HITS THE USA NOW
In the middle of one of the worse economic, unprecedented national unemployment, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and business closures—HSUS comes in with their Animal Rights Assault Sucker Team …………..
To deliberately ASSAULT 34 states with Animal Rights Laws, Anti-Pet Legislation. HSUS is banking on the public not raising a fuss about any of it, because HSUS “thinks” people won’t notice it, that people have been dumb-downed by HSUS eye candy photos, and sob stories.
So please TELL everyone you know, pass this forward, and make sure to tell 10-50 people the truth. HSUS IS PUSHING ANTI-PET LAWS NATIONWIDE.
Do we need more BAD laws pushed by Animal Rights which only cause the government to incur more debt, spend more of tax money, cause people to lose their rights, and possibly their animals?
PET PAC Don't loose your rights as Pet owners (Everywhere)
We Cannot Lose The Rights To Pet Ownership
the hidden agenda
"If indeed the property status of animals were to be abolished, what would be the legal and practical effects on the commercial use of animals? What would happen to the animals themselves--should they be put in sanctuaries, sterilized, or permitted to move towards extinction?"
•Animal Rights Case Book
When you look at recent legislation that makes crimes out of noncriminal activities such as; the right to sell or re-home your animals, the right to own the number of pets you feel you can be responsible for; the right to own the breed of dog of your choice and the criminalization of owning a natural intact dog or cat, you can begin to see the real threat. These proposed laws all restrict animal ownership.
What is under attack, is the right to own the pet of your choice as your personal property. Taking this right away, through the term “Guardianship” is what PetPAC calls the Hidden Agenda of animal rights extremists.
Guardianship strips you of the right to actually own your pet. It strips you of the right to make decisions about the love, care and health of your pets. And while it imposes a lesser responsibility upon you than that of an owner, it also opens you up to lawsuits over the care of your dog or cat by anyone who chooses to harass, harm and insult you. Once you are stripped of ownership, you lose the ability to choose what’s best for your dog or cat. It takes away your ability to decide with your veterinarian the best kind of health care. You can have a family pet, but it can always be taken from you.
Many of us have grown up with pets. We have brought them into our hearts and made them part of our family, and in return they show us unconditional love, devotion and loyalty. They bring us happiness and joy, even though at times it is they who dictate the terms.
Some of us, with disabilities, must depend upon our pets to get us through our lives. We put our trust into pets to work for us; to protect us; to hunt with us and some times just to bring peace into our world.
Mankind has lived with dogs and cats for thousands of years. Our world would be a different place without them.
It is for these reasons that PetPAC is initiating a new campaign to ensure no one can abridge our rights to own the dogs and cats we choose.
PetPAC has developed a NATIONAL PET OWNERS BILL OF RIGHTS© that we will ask all of you to support. We plan to take the National Pet Owners Bill of Right across the United States right into the halls of congress.
Now is the time to reinforce laws that have allowed us the unconditional ownership, love and care we have established to protect us and our animals. We cannot allow those who want to impose their sterile, vegan lifestyle upon all of us to succeed.
We need to bring together a huge army of pet owners with us to congress to convince our lawmakers to support this campaign.
Go here to protect your rights before it is too late!

Peta Kills Animals (USA)
Exclusive: PETA’s Pet Killing Program Set a New Record in 2008
Public Records: PETA Found Adoptive Homes for Less than 1 out of 300 Animals
Animal lovers worldwide now have access to more than a decade’s worth of proof that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) kills thousands of defenseless pets at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. Since 1998, PETA has opted to “put down” 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them.
PETA’s “Animal Record” report for 2008, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, shows that the animal rights group killed 95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year. During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.
Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. PETA just broke its own record.
Why would an animal rights group secretly kill animals at its headquarters? PETA’s continued silence on the matter makes it hard to say for sure. But from a cost-saving standpoint, PETA’s hypocrisy isn’t difficult to understand: Killing adoptable cats and dogs – and storing the bodies in a walk-in freezer until they can be cremated – requires far less money and effort than caring for the pets until they are adopted.
PETA has a $32 million annual budget. But instead of investing in the lives of the thousands of flesh and blood creatures in its care, the group spends millions on media campaigns telling Americans that eating meat, drinking milk, fishing, hunting, wearing leather shoes, and benefiting from medical research performed on lab rats are all “unethical.”
The bottom line: PETA’s leaders care more about cutting into their advertising budget than finding homes for the nearly six pets they kill on average, every single day.
The Virginia Beach SPCA, just down the road from PETA’s Norfolk headquarters, manages to adopt out the vast majority of the animals in its care. And it does it on a shoestring budget.
Years of public outrage has not been enough to convince PETA to eliminate its pet eradication program.
Now the death toll of animals in PETA’s care has reached 21,339, including more than 2,000 pets last year. That’s not an animal charity. It’s a slaughterhouse.

From Krista Mifflin, former About.com Guide
1. Adoption & Rescues
Adopt Puppy Pet Shelter Dog Pounds Adopt an Animal Adopt Kitten
Most dog adoption fees, whether from a breed rescue, or an animal shelter, range from $150.00 to $300.00. Why so much money? Who would pay that kind of money for a dog nobody seems to want anyway? A lot of caring people.
What the Adoption Fee Covers
- Primary vaccines for an adopted dog
- Microchipping
- Spay or neuter for the adopted dog, or all dogs within
- Health and veterinary care costs for any needy dog within
- Cost of housing, taxes, and utilities used to keep the shelter warm and running properly
- Feeding costs for animals
- Salary or wages for workers (although most shelters and organizations run on voluntary help only)
Although the adoption fee is a way to subsidize costs of caring for the numerous animals, it also serves one greater function. The adoption fee will put off anybody who is not willing to spend money on their animals. If you can not afford a $200.00 adoption fee, then you are unlikely to be able to afford care for your pet when he falls ill or has an accident. Saving the money to adopt a dog is a lot easier than having $500.00 cash in hand when something goes wrong and medical attention is necessary.
If you won't spend it to bring home a loving companion, then it is more than likely that you won't spend it when it is really needed either. It is a harsh world out there for pets, and making sure the dogs go to a good, responsible home that will care for them for the rest of their life is the number one concern of most shelter and rescue volunteers.

Re: nothing wrong with trying to save children
They were not telling you who to care more about. They were telling you that they agree that it is not the dogs at fault but those who trained them or bred them to be aggressive and there is more to the matter than trying to just help the mistreated dogs, but to go after those who trained the dogs that are aggressive and gave that breed a bad name in society for fear of the harm the dogs could do. IF you want to end something you have to go to the root of the problem. Before Pits Dobermin Pinchers and German Shepherds among other breeds were bred to fight and people feared them, but they switched to Pits which were originally bred for loyalty and to handle unruly bulls as they were herded to the market for slaughter. The reason people fear those dogs that are being used for fighting is because they never know if the dog of that breed was trained to fight or was bred to be aggressive.
POUND FEES
The purpose of what one poster states is High Fees charged by the Amarillo Animal Control is to DISCOURAGE and PUNISH pet owners who do not, will not or can not contain their pets. EVERY pet owner has got to make sure that their fences are SECURE! Even if a dog is an artist at getting out of a fence is no excuse. If that dog can get out, children can get in and when a child gets in and startles the dog this can lead to a child getting severely bitten and or mauled!
Do you know the danger that is posed by dogs running loose. Car accidents that put people's lives at risk when they try to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting a dog that darts out in the street!
As a child I grew up with dogs in our home,as an adult I've always had dogs and NOT ONCE did or have our dogs gotten loose because we made sure of their safety and if that meant keeping the dog inside then this is what we did and we only let them out(with supervision)to potty! Part of a pet's responsiblity.
Our City has GOT to have some way to control the amount of animals that are literally allowed to run loose. This City could face a severe crisis should we get an outbreak of Rabies. To those people who allow their dogs and cats to run after they think the Animal Shelter has closed for the day. . . . THINK AGAIN. They have Animal Control Officers who work after 6pm!
Pavillard Trailer Park is OVER RUN with Cats. No one can drive through this trailer park without seeing atleast 15 cats in a single drive through in that park. Cats being allowed to poop wherever they want and unknowingly the kids play in the same dirt where these animals poop! No NASTY! Cats are in almost all of the dumpsters out there no matter what time of day or night! Cats are the NASTIEST pets and can carry more disease than dogs yet BELOVED CAT owners continually allow them to run loose, breed year round AND defend their right to do so!
Last night I was in the Southlawn Area and just in 1 block I had to dodge 4 cats on Bowie Street that were running loose. This was just one block and I can only imagine how many more cats are out in that neighborhoods.
The City of Lawton Oklahoma has a Pet Registration Law and believe me. . . there are no dogs or cats running loose. You don't hear the incessant barking of dogs of all hours night and day and you don't see dead animal carcasses on the road. It is sooo refreshing and it's wonderful knowing that there are pet owners who can live in harmony with a City's requirements.
Believe it or not, there ARE some people who don't like having dogs and cats and that is their right to make this decision for themselves BUT then to have to put up with your dog/cat in their yard tearing it up,chewing on their porch items left out side etc is NOT right nor is it FAIR!

nothing wrong with trying to save children
"Nothing wrong with trying to save dogs. Oh wait is there a rule that says were only allowed to save dogs that you deem saveable, just like only dogs you deem sellable are allowed on Craigslist! This is the USA numnut, you don't have the right to tell people who or what they can't love. Maybe you belong in another Country!!!!!!!"
Please show me where I said there was something wrong with trying to save dogs.
I have the right to tell people that in my opinion - they are CARING MORE FOR THE DOGS THAN THE CHILDREN.
The truth is hate speech to those who don't like it.
RE: Complaint Against Animal Shelter and Humane Society
Having worked at the Amarillo Animal Shelter I KNOW for a fact that NO animal is denied food whether they are to be put down or not. ANY and ALL animals are fed around noon everyday that they are at the facility! ! Anyone who says different is LYING ! ! !
Yes staff's are used and often times the animal that has a staff on them will fight that staff and in doing so will bite their own lip or tongue in the process BUT those Animal Control Officers can not risk having their hands ripped to shreds or having other serious damage done to them should the animal become totally uncontrollable! There is never a guarantee that any animal brought into the facility doesn't have rabies and none of the personnel can take those kind of chances.
Yes there are friendly dogs in the Bite Observation Building but even friendly dogs will bite if and when the circumstances are right. The ONLY animal that will not bite is an animal with no teeth.
NO animal is mistreated while in the care of the Amarillo Animal Shelter or Humane Society! If you see any animal that appears to have been abused, that abuse happened to the animal before they got to the facility! You would not believe what those Animal Control Officers see when it comes to abused animals BUT let me tell you a few. . . . .
1) Dogs brought in that have collars embedded in their necks because the owners did not chage the size of the collar as they dog grew. For the most part the dogs can be saved from the severely infected neck but there are some that come in that can't be saved because to remove the collar will rip open their neck veins and they will bleed to death so those animals are put to sleep.
2) Severely matted hair on female dogs that are so physically worn down from having litter after litter that come into the Animal Shelter carrying more puppies.
3) Pit Bulls that are brought in with TOW chains around their necks that have 2 and 3 pad locks on them. The chain and pad locks are so heavy the poor dog can't even hold up it's head. . . . . EXTREMELY INHUMANE! !
4) Animals so badly infested with ticks and fleas that the animal that it is more humane to put them down than to let them suffer any longer because the parasites have totally ravaged their bodies and they are on the verge of death anyways.
5) Severe cases of mange because of improper diet.
6) Dogs that have been so mistreated that they will literally do nothing but run in circles all day because they have been neglected and left in tiny cages for too long. I even saw one dog do this as it chased it's own tail and bit it everytime it caught it's tail. Before the owner came to reclaim it,it had almost literally eating a third of it's own tail off. . . . Sickening! ! ! !
7) Puppies brought in almost daily infected with Parvo on the verge of death that have to be put down.
8) Dogs and Cats brought in with tags and when personnel at the Animal Shelter or Humane Society try to contact them, they find disconnected phones etc and can't reach the owner and the owner never comes looking for their "beloved pet"!
As far as the wet and cold floors as you call them. The kennels are washed everyday to get of the pee and feces so that the animals don't have to walk in it nor the visitors have to smell it. Every kennel is washed in the morning and disenfectant/deordorizer is put down after each washing. Kennels are then scraped clean of feces in the aftenoon.
Each building is equiped with air conditioning for the summer months and have heaters for the winter months.
The City of Amarillo does not know the homes that Pit Bulls,Pit Bull Mixes or Hybrid Wolves come from and due to that and the nature of the breed is not willing to accept the liability associated with adopting out a dog of those breeds.
I Challange anyone who has complaints against the Animal Shelter or Humane Society to go to City Hall, sign a liability wavier and then go volunteer at the facility for a week. Within that week I PROMISE. . . you WILL see that things are NOT as you think you see them to be nor how you are trying to present them to be. If you need answers to your issues I suggest to go talk to the Director of the Animal Control (Mike), the Assistant Director of the Animal Control (Shannon) or the Director of the Humane Society (Andrea) and will be more than willing to answer ANY question or concern you have!
BTW. . . Did you see the broadcast on Channel 10 tonight about the 30% increase in animals that are being brought into the Amarillo Animal Shelter/Humane Society and the increased numbers of animals being put to sleep? They are saying that due to economic situations "beloved pets" are being sacrificed and abandoned.
Look on Craigslist "PET'S and "FREE" Plenty of puppies/kittens being born every day because "beloved" pet owners will not act responsibly and have their animals neutered/spayed. Most all of the puppies/kittens will eventually end up at the Animal Shelter and most of them will have to be put to sleep.

LOST Border Collie Mix (Clarendon)
Please help us find Becky, she is a two year old Border Collie mix from the Amarillo SPCA. She was adopted to a lady in Clarendon who had lost her dog and wanted a new friend, after adopting Becky, her other dog came home and not wanting two dogs she ended up kicking Becky out on the street. The Amarillo SPCA is desperate to find her and make sure she is okay, she is a real sweetheart but may be a little shy around people she doesn't know well. If you have any information on Becky, please contact the Amarillo SPCA at (806)622-0555. We are grateful for any help in finding this sweet girl!
Little Marmaduke
I don't know much about this guy I do know his life is going to be put to an end Monday. Me and a friend are going to get him out, the thing is we need to have a home set up for him ahead of time because my male just does not do good with other males. If you are interested in the little guy let me know, If at all possible to make a donation of 20 or 30 to get him out that would be amazing because they are going to charge us to get him out. Monday is his last day though. Donation isn't nesaccarily required but it would help out so much. According to them he is a pitbull but I think he might have some Mastiff in him or something along those lines. If you are wanting a sweet affecionate puppy that is just goofy as all get out email me ASAP this little guys life depends on it. We are more than willing to go through the hassle of getting him out and everything all we ask is that you give him an amazing home, like I said if you could donate ANYTHING toward the cost of getting him out that would be amazing. We don't have alot of money but we can't bear to see this little guys life end as it's begininng he's probably about 5 months of age at the most.

Needing Childcare (I-40 and Washington)
I am looking for childcare for my two month old daughter. I'm looking for someone who has the flexibility to keep her at our house most of the time, but also at your location when needed. I do not mind your own child coming with you, provided that he/she is well behaved and you are capable and comfortable caring for them both. I do ask that you do the baby's laundry every few days, wash her bottles as needed, and occasionally run some errands. I'll need someone for four days a week, including every weekend, from either 10-6 or 9-5, depending on work schedule. I also need every other week Thursdays (either day or evening) at your house. I am requesting a (paid) trial run to make sure that everything will go smoothly, and that can be arranged as soon as possible for the right person.
Non-negotiables:
Own car (safe condition) and good driving record.
Clean background check (please be prepared to provide the necessary information)
I am paying $100 weekly.
If you meet the above requirements, please call (254) 631-2020 between 10am and 6pm. I am not interested in in-home daycares.
If you had responded to my previous ad, please call or email again to confirm continued interest and I will get back to you.

Looking for evening childcare in our home (NE Amarillo)
We are looking for someone to watch our one year old daughter in our home from about 5pm to 2am, Tuesday through Saturday (Friday and Saturday for sure, but Tue-Thurs may be flexible). She is a super easy baby and goes down for the night by 8pm. We have 500+ satellite channels at your disposal, and if you have a laptop you can use our high speed internet. PLEASE EMAIL DESCRIPTION IF YOU HAVE LOST A DOG IN THE CANYON AREA. I WANT THE COLOR AND HOW BIG AND WHAT KIND. THE DOG IS AT MY HOUSE. THANKS.
re:very low rates
She just doesn't seem qualified from her ad...it needs work is all!! I wouldn't leave my kids there all day, I just wouldn't even call to ask questions about her very low rate, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! I began to my response trying to help her, because I too have a childcare business in my home, and a dog as well. My kids aren't going to abuse animals. They are going to learn to take care of them responsibly! I have also turned people away because I am full with two full time families...All I can responsibly handle with two kids of my own!
Ferrets and Guinea pigs smell and seem dirty. I love pitbulls. Bethany- I think you'd have more responses if you took your time making your next ad. Maybe find a home for some of your animals so you can take care of more kids during the day!

Re:Very low rates
Seriously just because she's 21 doesn't mean anything. Most likely her husband is supporting them, I'm a young mother, younger than her and I babysit for extra cash and my husband supports me and our daughter. Just because she has pets doesn't mean shit. There are alot of parents that want their children growing up around pets and them knowing the proper way to treat them unlike yall's brats who probably abuse animals and think it's ok. I have a german shepard and 3 pitbulls and I have a very thriving childcare business. All three sets of parents are perfectly happy with the way I am and my dogs. I have actually turned people away. Yall are like one of the few people that mind pets. Ferrets don't carry diseases you idiot no pet does as long as they are properly cared for. It's hard but there is a way to make it to where ferrets don't stink. What does her spelling matter? People are wanting to know how good she cares for children not if she could win a spelling bee. Alot of the times people are in such hurries they don't even pay attention to stuff like that. Yall don't need to be so judgemental. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Yall don't even know her and should not be judging her like that. I'm sure she has had plenty of emails/calls about childcare.

Sweet Dog to Great Home (amarillo TX)
I have a beagle austrailian shepard mix dog to give free to a good home. He is a very sweet and loving, cuddly dog. His name is Sox. He needs a large yard and lots of love. He has been an indoor dog, but i feel he could be a great outdoor dog if appropiatly acculmated. He is wonderful with other animals, dogs and cats and LOVES little kids. I hope to find him a good home where he can recieve all the attention he deserves since our schedules do not let us do this. I am in no way just trying to give him away, i want to make sure he is going to get a better life out a new home.

I agree with you completely!! But why would you waste your time making someone feel bad about themselves? There was no need to reply to that her ad! Just ignore it like everyone else would. 2 sweet dogs need homes (Amarillo)
These two sweet dogs have been rescued. Sam (male, black and white pointer mix) and Remy (female, black, liver and white pointer mix) need new homes. Sam is very sweet and affectionate. He pointed a wing on a string, so with training he might be a good bird dog. Remy is about two and is also a very sweet gal. She is very content in a crate. Email me for more pics or more info. The rehoming fee is $50 each. Would like to see them go together, but that is negotiable.
