Local Diabetic & Gluten-Free Baking Business Donates 10% to BW. (Ames)

A local home-based business donates 10% of profits this Saturday, November 21, to Ames-based Beyond Welfare, Inc. Prairie Rose Baking, which specialized in all-natural, diabetic and gluten-free baked goods will be supporting an important county-wide organization which works to eliminate poverty and strengthen community.

Beyond Welfare Inc., headquartered at 130 South Sheldon Avenue, is an organization that serves nearly 100 Story County families a year. The 12-year-old organization is an internationally recognized 501c3 nonprofit which works to 1) redefine marginalized individuals by their strengths, 2) demonstrate that all people on both ends of the social-economic continuum have both gifts and needs, and 3) build community where all have enough friendships, resources and meaning to live satisfying lives.

In particular, Beyond Welfare provides a healthy, tasty, balanced meal, followed by fellowship, every Thursday through its “Community Leadership Team” program. Free childcare is provided at ALL meetings so no one must miss out due to caring for their dependents. The meals are served 5:30 p.m. Thursdays at 159 South Sheldon Avenue in the basement of Collegiate Presbyterian Church.

Wheels to Work is another program BW spearheads to help low-income residents acquire and maintain vehicles and/or transportation critical to employment, education, and/or healthcare.

Prairie Rose Baking, owned by Mary Rose Anderson of Ames, will be donating 10% of the profits to BW from booth sales this Saturday at the city-wide Holiday Craft Fair, held at the City Auditorium in Ames. The craft fair at 515 Clark Avenue, Downtown Ames, will run 9:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

All naturally-sweetened, sugar free pies, as well as low and no-sugar, diabetic- friendly bars, quick breaks, cakes, and cookies will be featured at Booth #70 by Prairie Rose Baking. Wheat free and gluten-free cookies, quick breads and cakes will also be for sale.

Agent Earns Prestigious Designation to help Ames area Homeowners (Ames Area)

ALISSA DIETZ EARNS PRESTIGIOUS DESIGNATION TO HELP HOMEOWNERS IN DANGER OF FORECLOSURE

Alissa Dietz of CENTURY 21 Signature Real Estate has earned the prestigious Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) designation, having completed extensive training in foreclosure avoidance and short sales. This is invaluable expertise to offer at a time when the area is ravaged by “distressed” homes in the foreclosure process.

Short sales allow the cash-strapped seller to repay the mortgage at the price that the home sells for, even though it is lower than what is owed on the property. This can save many people from foreclosure and even bankruptcy. More and more lenders are willing to consider short sales because they are much less costly than foreclosures.

“This CDPE designation has been invaluable as I work with sellers and lenders on complicated short sales,” said Dietz. “It is so rewarding to be able to help sellers save their homes from foreclosure.”

Alex Charfen, founder of the Distressed Property Institute in Boca Raton, Fla., said that Realtors® such as Alissa Dietz with the CDPE designation have valuable training in short sales that can offer the homeowner much better alternatives to foreclosure, which virtually destroys the credit rating. These experts also may better understand market conditions and can help sellers through the emotional experience, he said.

The Distressed Property Institute opened in January 2008 and provides training on-site and online. The CDPE is the premier designation for Realtors helping homeowners in distress and handling short sales.

“Our goal is to educate as many people as possible so we can help as many homeowners as possible,” Charfen said.
