All my house lacks is a washing machine because I've always done my laundry at my boyfriend's but there are several laundrettes in the area. Hello! My name is Robert and I am a Dutch international correspondent and writer (44).
Presumably November or December, I will once again travel to NYC and would like to swap for at least a few months – preferably longer.
My loft – a real loft, not a so-called loft- is located in a National Monument: the former Military Hospital, within the ancient city center of Amsterdam. The rear windows do have a view on a canal.
The apt. has (very) high ceilings (up to 6 meter). It is spacious, smashing and light.
It is at walking distance from the River Amstel (4 minutes), the Hermitage Museum (6 minutes) and the City Hall and Opera (10 minutes). Tram and metro are around the corner and – of course; this is Holland- a bike is in the basement.
The 77 sq. M. (800+ square feet) apt. is fully equipped (Cable TV, Flat Screen, Hifi, dishwasher, Wifi, wash machine, no dryer though – I use the balcony :-) and is suitable for 1 person – or 2, when the bed is replaced by a Queen-size bed.
The house is beautifully furnished with 18th century French Directoire and Empire and Dutch early 20th century Art Deco furniture and everything is of the highest quality – as can be seen on the pics. More pics avaible.
Of course there are books in English.
I would like to swap for an apt. in Manhattan, pref. in a tall building, pref. Lower Manhattan. Soho, TriBeCa, Clinton, Hells Kitchen, Union Square, FiDi (I LOVE the FiDi), etc; you’ve got the picture. The more South, the better. Though I also like Midtown.
Last year, I’d spend 3 months at the Upper West Side, which is NOT my neighborhood; Still, I will consider.
No need to say Amsterdam is the perfect operating base to discover Europe. Trains to Brussels (3 hours, one way starting 27 USD), Paris (4 hours, 35 USD), London (5.5 hours, 70 USD), Berlin (6 hours, 56 USD), Mediterranean (Nice, Marseille, 8 hours, 63 USD) Vienna (11 hours, 132 USD). I think you've got the picture :-)

Our MA farmhouse for your Utrecht, Jan 20-June 30 (Shelburne Falls, Massuchusetts) 3bd
(January 20-June 30, 2010). Nestled among fields and woods, with open vistas of surrounding hills and within view of the Deerfield River. This sunny, well lit home is over two-hundred years old, but decorated with a modern artistic sensibility, and well-equipped with high-speed internet access, washer, dryer, large kitchen range, etc. Wood heat and cellulose insulation keep things toasty on the coldest days. House consists of entrance foyer, large cozy living room, sunny day room, piano/library room, huge eat-in country kitchen, three bedrooms (one downstairs and two upstairs), bathroom and mudroom for boots, coats, etc. Outbuildings consist of artist’s studio, small rental cabin (where our friend and animal caretaker lives), goat barns (complete with goats!) and chicken coop (fresh eggs every day). Front porch and lovely flower beds and vegetable garden patch for the green thumb. Three friendly dogs are in residence, as well as an assortment of barn cats. Our 5 acres even includes a treehouse!
Located five minutes from scenic Shelburne Falls, fifteen from Berkshire East ski area and Ashfield, 35-45 minutes from Brattleboro, VT, Amherst, Northampton, and Williamstown, an hour from Mt. Snow, and an hour-and-a-half from Okemo and Stratton, ski resorts. Cross-country ski right on nearby groomed trails at neighboring high school, or in Hawley at Stump Sprouts or in the State Forest (twenty minute drive to both places).

Our appartment is situated in a safe neighbourhood in Amsterdam Zuid, close to all public transport (bikes can be included in the swap) with the Amsterdamse Bos around the corner, and not far from hotspots, such as the Museum quarter, De Pijp and the Vondelpark.
This neat appartment has one bedroom with a double bed and one (large!) living room. There is no television, but all other modern comfort is available, including a washing machine and WiFi. There's a well-equipped kitchen and a clean bathroom with shower, as well as a very comfortable balcony. The place is perfect for couples, but since the living room is so big, it will be no problem to accomodate an extra person (however, since we are on the sixth floor and no one usually sleeps here, this room doesn't have curtains).

Cozy, quiet, fully equipped (wireless, flat screen, dvd & cd player, surround system, dishwasher etc.) studio apartment in 1190 Vienna. The queen-sized sofa bed is perfect for one person or a couple. The studio is centrally located, 7 tram stops/~ 8 min from downtown Vienna where all the famous museums, churches, theatres and coffee houses are situated. There are supermarkets and a few nice restaurants (which I am happy to tell you about) in the neighbourhood. The airport is about 30min by car and 40min by train.
Vienna is particularly charming this time of the year – I'm sure you've all heard of "Christmas in Vienna". All over town arts & crafts items are being sold giving Austria's capital a unique atmosphere. More general information about Vienna can be found here.
Destination, Dates & Who’s Who
An American friend and I are looking to travel to big(ger) European cities between Nov 30 and New Years (including New Years in fact). We are particularly interested in going to Berlin and Amsterdam but - being natural-born travellers - we are open to any suggestions you might have.
As for the length of the swap, 3 – 5 days would suit us best; up to a week might be doable, too. My friend and I are mature, responsible home-owners and will take good care of your home during the swap. We love animals so taking care of them would not be a problem for us. We do not smoke and ask you to do the same while staying in my apartment.
