Chinese tutor needed (Ann Arbor)

I am an advanced speaker of Mandarin Chinese who is fluent in everyday language. I am now working on improving my vocabulary and ability to use more formal language. My goal is to be able to give lectures and conference presentations in idiomatically correct formal Chinese (wenyan). I am therefore looking for a native speaker of Chinese with whom I can meet for 4-5 hours/week to practice using new vocabulary, chengyu, and grammatical phrases, etc. Teaching experience is not necessary but I need someone who is able to correct my mistakes, illustrate how to use new vocabulary, etc. Since I will be providing my own teaching material and organize the structure of the weekly meetings no preparation time will be needed. Knowledge of Chinese history, culture, and classical literature would be a plus. My research interests are mostly in early Chinese history, philosophy and literature and will be interested in perfecting my command of the language used in scholarly articles on these topics written in Chinese.

Inspiring & Passionate Infant Teacher (Ypsilanti Twp.)

Teddy Bear Day Care & Learning Center has been educating Ypsilanti area’s youth for nearly twenty years. Nine years ago we decided to take our learning community to the next level and received accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children—to this day, we are proud to say that we are the only center in Ypsilanti Township to receive this high honor.

TBDC firmly believes that early childhood educators ought to teach in a setting where they can set their talents and interests free. Each member of our team is dedicated to his or her own professional development, and attends a minimum of twelve hours of continuing education per year—and TBDC offers about twenty custom hours per year, in-house. Each of our teachers begins with in-the-classroom training and the TBDC orientation. From there, each teacher identifies his or her strengths and areas for improvement, and with the help of the administration, designs a training program.

Overview of the position:
The person who is hired for this position will work closely with the four other individuals on the Infant and Wobbler Teaching Team. The ultimate responsibility is to provide nurturing and compassionate care for our Infant students. An important aspect of this is maintaining a positive, safe, and healthy environment, while planning and being involved in lessons and activities for the students. You will be assigned a group of students within the Infant Class—this will be your “family group”. As the primary caregiver for your students, you will be responsible for completing any daily or weekly activity sheets for this group of students. Ongoing assessments and evaluations of your students' progress and development is also imperative. Communication with our family members is of the utmost importance to the TBDC Teaching Team. Therefore, you will also be expected to build and preserve an open line of communication with the families of your students. All teachers are responsible, in part, for the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning in the building. The hired candidate will work full time, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Minimum requirements and qualifications:
The selected candidate must not have any convictions involving child abuse or neglect, or a felony involving harm or threat of harm to an individual. He or she must also be at least eighteen years of age, and have rsome college coursework in education or a related field, but the ideal candidate would have a CDA (or higher in education or a related field). Beyond that, you will only receive a response if you have professional experience working in early childhood education, preferably in a NAEYC accredited center.
