This is a job that is ideal for a college student ages 18-25. However, if your fitness level is around here and you are 60, I still encourage you to apply, if you are interested. However, because of the time scheduling and fact that it is SUMMER work, I feel that it would be best suited for the younger crowd. But if you really need work and fit the requirements, I will not discriminate in any way.

First of all, I will probably want ALL or MOST of your summer. You will be paid $500.00 a week while you are working. You will most likely be asked to travel to exciting natural locations not only around Michigan, but possibly Arkansas and/or Arizona. We will pay all your travel and lodging expenses, and, while you are working, all of your food expenses (camp food, primarily). If you agree to work for 3 months, you will consequently have 1 month of free time, for 1 week intervals between 2 week work shifts (but we won't pay your "fun" bill, e.g., if you choose to go to Vegas on your days off). If you can teach first aid, you will receive an additional $50.00 per hour, for a total of 6 hours of teaching per 2-week session. Over the course of your internship, this would total to an additional $1,200.00.

So, what is it you will be doing, precisely? You will be a guide for groups of between 4 and 10 people (11, if you count the teacher). These people will be participating in foreign language courses on guided backpacking, cycling and canoe treks, which last for two weeks each. For you, that means 4 separate expeditions, each of which will be different. The catch is, you will not be allowed to speak English. If you do not know any of the language for the group you will be guiding, it will be your job to sit quietly and/or participate in classes. So after a whole summer of helping out and taking free language classes, you will no doubt gain a lot. If you already speak a foreign language or have studied one, or have one that you would like to study, please specify this in your application. However, if you have no preference, you will be assigned to a random group for which the teacher requires assistance.

What are the requirements? You will need to have your first aid certification, for starters. If you do not feel comfortable teaching a course, I will simply have someone else come in and do it. However, I strongly encourage you to help out with this, even if you are not a great public speaker. Secondly, you need to have had enough outdoor experience to say that you have mastered basic skills. You don't have to be an experienced wilderness survivor, having lived off of squirrel meat for months at a time, but you should have been on a good number of hikes, know how to pitch a tent, tie knots, and basically know how to help someone who doesn't know what he or she is doing. THIS DOES NOT MAKE YOU LIABLE in the event of an accident, however--everyone is responsible for his or her own safety--you are simply there to help out. Third, you should own basic outdoor equipment, like a tent, a backpack and a sleeping bag. We will be happy to rent a canoe or bike for you, if you need one. You need to be in good shape, too--if I ask you to cycle 300 miles in two weeks, you will have no trouble adjusting to the demand, even if you aren't a cyclist. You don't need to be an expert at these physical tasks, either. But you should be clever and be able to figure things out quickly. Also, it will help a LOT if you have your own car. Not a requirement, but just FYI.

Need some car repair done (Whitmore Lake)

I took my car into the garage to get the check engine light checked, and I need a Torque converter on my transmission. I was told that if I pull the trans out to fix the part, I might as well just rebuild the whole thing.... I can't afford that. I can buy the part, but what I need is for some kind-hearted person to put it in for me. I'm a full time college student, my fiance and I both work fast food, and I'm pregnant with our second child. I don't have 4 grand to put on a transmission. We just bought the van a month or so ago, and when we got it checked, the guy lied to us and said it was an O2 sensor that needed to be changed.
