Holiday spirit (Every year,same thing)

Here is my rant for the night: how rude people can be this time of year. It starts the day after Thanksgiving and continues to the end of December. Makes me really mad to see people being pushy and rude to salespeople,cashiers,servers,etc. It's not like being rude is going to get you to the front of the line. And it's hard to get into the holiday spirit when it is being shoved down your throat as early as August when the Hallmark ornaments arrive. As soon as the Halloween candy is gone,out comes the candy canes and the Christmas candy--is everything a reason to celebrate with candy? Remember last year when all those people wanted something on sale at Wal-mart the day after Thanksgiving? They ended up trampling over one of the employees just to be the first in line to get the deal of the day--sickening! "Please" and "thank you" go a long way in helping the people who give us great customer service whther it be at Christmas or any other time of the year. So,that is my rant for now.....please,people,be nice.

THANK YOU for this post! I, too, am one of those rare breed of bicyclists who actually obey the traffic laws. You are absolutely correct that the illegal and dangerous scofflaw behavior of some bicyclists endangers them as well as all other bicyclists.

It's great that the local police now ticket these behaviors (running red lights & stop signs, etc.). I know a few people who have actually received tickets. I just wish there were more police writing more tickets. Enforcement will change behavior. It may take some time, but it will help with the city budget in the mean time!

You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would feel so horribly disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut-job am I? Well, these briefly are the views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This is not to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the STIMULUS bill. I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you No, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars. I want the circumvention of our constitutional checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution, and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There are many conflicting opinions and it is too soon for this radical legislation. Quit throwing our nation into politically-correct quicksand.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision that will burden me, my children, and grandchildren. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night without even reading it. Slow down! Fix only what is broken -- we have the best health care system in the world -- and test any new program in one or two states first.

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. More is not better! Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real [Constitutional] obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes -- how did they pull that one off? Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with any of our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs -- and that is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person! Why do you want me to hate my employers? And what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Every company must sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. (Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid?) We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please stop trying to manipulate and appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now. Take a breath. Listen to the people. Slow down and get some input from nonpoliticians and experts on the subject. I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not.

It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is needless urgency and recklessness in all of your recent spending of our tax dollars.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on bringing our concerns to Washington . Our president often knows all the right buzzwords like unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented.. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work, pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone... and we are now looking at you.

You have awakened us, the patriotic freedom spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office.

We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. When I was in college I worked in the meat dept. of a very high end (aka EXPENSIVE) grocery store.
We would always get welfare cases buying crab, fillet mignon, shrimp etc. This one lady would buy $15 steaks and king crab legs for her litter of children.
She would aways tell them to pick out whatever they want because "It is free for us."
Meanwhile, after paying rent and bills, I was lucky enough to be able to afford mac and cheese and peanut butter.

I have nothing against welfare for people who REALLY need it. My family was on welfare for a year when I was a kid. Yet there should totally be limits on it.
Way too many people abuse the system and teach their kids that it is ok to do it.
I think unless they are crippled or elderly, welfare recipients should have to do mandatory community service as long as they recive benefits.

Inconsiderate bicyclists! (from A2 bicyclist)

I have just about had it with inconsiderate bikers that won't stop at 4 way stops and plow through them completely out of turn, even when there are tons of cars backed up waiting their turn. As a bicyclist, I try to respect the law, take my turn at 4 way stops, but this week 3 bikers have buzzed right past me as I stopped to let the other car take his rightful turn. First, that other bicyclist is a jerk, and second, he makes me look completely idiotic because the other car stops in the intersection, confused as to what my intention actually is, and takes twice as long for him to finally believe that I had actually stopped to let him take his turn. DUDE, if you see a bike stopped at the front of the line at a 4 way stop, waiting their turn DON'T buzz through the sign, otherwise you might just get what you deserve - SMASHED by the car I was letting through!

Ok. I have to admit in retrospect I think I MIGHT have over reacted a bit. I actually do love Ann Arbor and I am glad you people can find humor in my obviously bat shit insane post from earlier.

I work for an airport shuttle company and I had to cancel an appointment for a passenger because one of our vehicles broke down. I offered to give him a free return trip and was very apologetic. But he wasn't having it. He called me a (almost verbatim) stupid cock sucking, ass hole, bitch faggot. Needless to say this soured my mood since I already had to wake up an extra hour before I was going to for my shift in order to pick up the driver who was stranded so he could get another vehicle to do pickups.

I was simply shocked at how rude the gentleman was. I've been with this company for seven years and only one other time have I been subjected to such intense verbal abuse. That last time was actually my first day on the job.

So I apologize to some of you. While I do love Ann Arbor the people often do suck eggs.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night criticized Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.) for voting against the Democrats’ signature healthcare bill.

“We even have blacks voting against the healthcare bill,” Jackson said at a reception Wednesday night. “You can’t vote against healt More..hcare and call yourself a black man.”

The remark stirred a murmur at the reception, held by the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Foundation as part of a series of events revolving around the 25th anniversary of Jackson’s run for president. Several CBC members were in attendance, including Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), who’d introduced Jackson.

Davis, who is running for governor, is the only black member of Congress from Alabama.

He is also the only member of the CBC to have voted against the healthcare bill earlier this month.

Davis referred to Jackson’s 1988 run for president in a statement, issued through his office, that said he would not engage Jackson on his criticism.

“One of the reasons that I like and admire Rev. Jesse Jackson is that 21 years ago he inspired the idea that a black politician would not be judged simply as a black leader,” Davis’s statement said. “The best way to honor Rev. Jackson’s legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race.”

Davis’s Democratic primary opponent, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, highlighted Davis’s status as the lone African-American vote against the bill.

He is also the only member of the CBC to have voted against the healthcare bill earlier this month, a fact Sparks pointed out.

“He was the only Black Caucus member to vote against it. I don’t get it,” Sparks said last week, according to The Associated Press.

Davis has countered that Sparks’s position on healthcare has changed over time, saying he’s being “deliberately dishonest.”

The primary will be June 1. All of the GOP candidates for governor have been critical of the healthcare legislation, according to the AP.

I’m sure he was driven to it by the backlash of irrational anti-Muslim sentiment Americans have been wallowing in these last few years. It couldn’t be that Islam itself is in need of an Enlightenment the same way medieval Christianity was. After all it’s the Religion of Peace, right?

Police arrested 22-year-old Abdul Walid Hamid of Hayward on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 4, after he reportedly tore a crucifix from a person’s neck and scared others at Stoneridge Shopping Center.

Hamid, an employee at a mall kiosk near Starbucks, has been charged with battery, terrorist threats and grand theft.

According to reports, Hamid was yelling “Allah is power” and “Islam is great” while holding a pen in a fist over his head. Witnesses said he shouted anti-Christian comments, said police.

Lt. Mike Elerick of the Pleasanton Police Department said the man was not provoked and didn’t threaten violence, but he committed robbery when he grabbed and broke a crucifix off someone’s neck.

Coworkers told police that Hamid’s actions were out of the ordinary and that he had worked at the kiosk for years.

Police also said they weren’t aware of a prior criminal history for the man.

“We had multiple people calling 911,” Elerick said. “One female was crouching down and hiding from him. He definitely scared quite a few people.”

Elerick said much of the man’s speech was similar to the loud scene of the Christian activists who frequent downtown Pleasanton. The big difference, however, was that Hamid was on private property and had physical contact with someone.

Of course Hamid got even more disrespectful in court when the thug, who proved he could speak English well enough to be understood by the people he was victimizing, used an interpreter to speak to the judge. You know, because the judge on his case is beneath him.

But this is just an isolated incident right? It isn’t indicative of the kind of hatred being taught in Mosques these days is it?

Disbarred radical lawyer Lynne Stewart is going to jail - maybe for a lot longer than she thought.

A federal appeals court Tuesday upheld her conviction for smuggling messages to her jailed terrorist client, and said she deserves more than the 28 months she got because she may have lied at her trial.

Stewart, 70, is to surrender to U.S. Marshals immediately. The Brooklyn resident has been free on bail since 2006.

She was sentenced to two years and four months in prison in 2005 for helping Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman talk to militants from prison after his 1996 conviction for plotting to blow up bridges and tunnels in New York City and assassinate Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Prosecutors, who wanted her jailed for 30 years, appealed, calling the light sentence "a slap on the wrist" for someone convicted "of a crime of terrorism."

The appeals court said the trial judge, John Koeltl, should have determined at sentencing if Stewart committed perjury when she testified.

"Any cover-up or attempt to evade responsibility by a failure to tell the truth upon oath or affirmation at her trial would compound the gravity of her crime," the court said.

Stewart's lawyers argued she was just trying to be a zealous advocate to her client, who is serving life in prison.
