Academic Tutor for Fox Valley Collaborative Upward Bound Program (Appleton)

Our program is looking for college students in good academic standing with their universities to tutor high school students one or two days a week. We serve 60 low-income, first generation college bound high school students at five area high schools (Appleton East, North, and West, Neenah, and Menasha). We are looking for candidates who are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (Thursdays are required--Mondays and Tuesdays not necessary but desirable) from 3:00pm-5:00pm. There is also a possibility of work one Saturday a month during our Saturday Seminars. You must have a reliable means of transportation to and from the schools.

Requirements:

• Sophomore or higher class standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5

• Names and contact information of two references from high school or university faculty members

• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

• Career commitment to educational success

• Preference will be given to persons with experience in working with disadvantaged students and who have demonstrated skills in particular academic areas

Assistant Director of Donor Relations - Special Events (Lawrence University, Appleton, WI)

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The assistant director of donor relations is responsible for working closely with donor relations and alumni relations staff to implement an annual strategic events plan that aims to: 1) maintain positive, ongoing connections among alumni and between alumni and the University; 2) provide opportunities for donor cultivation; and 3) to provide effective stewardship for major donors to the college. While the assistant director is part of the donor relations team and reports to the director of donor relations, she/he works collegially and collaboratively with all members of the alumni and development staff, especially those within the alumni relations and major and planned giving programs.

DUTIES:

1. Under supervision of the director of donor relations, the assistant director will lead the planning for many of the development events, both on and off campus. On campus events include special donor receptions and dinners, campaign related dedications/ grand openings and other development related events. Off campus events are held throughout the country in a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary regions where alumni/donors reside. Duties include the creation of invite lists, selecting and securing venues/ caterers, developing and managing timelines, collaborating and communicating with other staff/ faculty/ students/ volunteers/ donors involved with these events and serving as the overall project manager.

2. In close coordination with the director of donor relations and the alumni relations staff, assist with the development and management of off site alumni events held throughout the country in 12-14 strategic regions where there is high concentrations of alumni. Specific duties closely mirror those outlined above.

3. Provide leadership and work collaboratively with the administrative support staff. This involves developing and maintaining timelines, delegating projects, responding to questions and finding ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of event tracking and reporting.

4. Maintain good working relationships and serve as liaison to those departments on campus that provide event planning support (e.g. communications, catering, physical plant, security, etc.). The assistant director will determine event needs and request services using the appropriate channels, while being mindful of timelines and budgets.

5. Work collaboratively with director of donor relations to develop programs, gather research and background information and prepare remarks.

6. Lead planning meetings and organize working groups to gather suggestions, gain feedback and involve key constituencies, both on and off campus.

7. Manage the events calendar and keep all staff apprised of the details for tentative and scheduled events.

8. Partner with director of donor relations to execute events by providing leadership and direction to other staff, troubleshooting as challenges arise and ensuring an overall successful event.

9. Respond to special projects as needed and as time permits.

10. Handle other duties as assigned.

11. Some regional and national travel is required.


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

The assistant director will work most closely with the donor relations and alumni relations teams, the vice president for development and alumni relations, the associate vice president for development, the associate vice president for major and planned giving, and annual giving and major and planned giving officers. Additionally, the assistant director will have working relationships with all members of the development office, all members of the communications office, faculty and other staff, parents, alumni, students, trustees, donors and friends of the college.

The assistant director also must establish and maintain positive working relationships with other key offices, such as the president’s and provost’s offices, physical plant and catering, as well as external vendors (locally, regionally and nationally), especially those in the hospitality industry.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. One to three years of event planning/ development/ alumni relations experience required, preferably in a college or university setting.

2. Strong working knowledge of computers and experience with database systems.

3. Exceptional organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

4. Strong project management skills with outgoing attitude and interest in collaborating with others.

5. Strong written and oral communication skills.

6. Creativity, collegiality, flexibility, originality and a sense of humor.

7. Bachelor’s degree is required.
