I just moved down here from up East and wanted to gather a few like-minded and rowdy musicians to play some jug music. I'm not married to any of the usual instrumentation (wash tub, jug, banjo, guitar, mandolin, etc) since Jug Bands came from folks just playing what they had lying around the house. So if you shred the kazoo let me know. Or, you're a trombone player (with a heart of gold) who wants to also play that awesome Mexican thing that looks like a fish and a chopstick. Sweet! Whatever it is just have a sense of humor. If you want to play out amongst others you are probably proficient enough to play jug music.

Note: the source material will most invariably relate to altered states, obscure sexual positions, and contemporary rap music (covers).

My ideal instrumentation would be Guitar (me), Banjo (you), Ukulele or Mandolin (you), Tuba/Trombone or Bass (you), clarinet (also you). But you know... whatever.

I can't understand you if I can't read your frigging Craigslist post and thus you may not find what you are looking for. If you are indeed the hottest musician on the planet, your skills will be ignored because you can't write a simple sentence. People do judge others by their ability to communicate in the real world. Writing an ad here isn't a doctoral thesis, it might take a whole 4 minutes.

I totally agree with the original post- I've encountered numerous posts while seeking others to play music with who can't communicate what they're looking for. Oh well. The fact he/she is aynonymous might even mean they play in your band and are embarrassed by your flaws in press kits, flyers, press anouncements etc.

Ableton Live??? (avl)

What you have here is a 1974 Kimball Swinger electric organ that has been completely gutted and retrofit to become a truly one of a kind MIDI-USB controller. I installed 24 Happ Arcade Buttons and a 4-way Happ Competition Arcade Joystick into a wooden tier built by my good friend Grant Dula (dulawoodworking.com) All of which are wired to a Hale Micro (halemicro.com) UMC32 PCB. This is a plug n play USB device, just plug it in and shes good to go, no software setup etc. There is also a small section built to house 2 Korg Nano Controllers, I use the Nano series because they are sturdy, cheap and easily replaceable. I built this out of frustration with the average MIDI/Ableton controller which cost several hundred dollars, has far too many blinking lights, buttons, are in no way intuitive or easy to use, and in my opinion not trust worthy for heavy gigging. Happ buttons and joysticks (http://www.happcontrols.com) are virtually indestructable and the UMC32 is extremely compact and reliable; anybody with a soldering iron could fix this in 5 minutes if it were to break. It also has 44 original Kimball keys which are wired for MIDI use as well and feel much better than your average midi keyboard. I replaced the back of the organ with plexi-glass and put some old x-mas lights in there for appearance, but you can easily open it up and do what ever you want with it. Also 4 of the 12 pedal notes are wired for MIDI use. I did this because I use Ableton Live for looping guitars and need a hands free way to engage loops in a live setting. Although it appears to be very heavy it only weighs roughly 50lbs, and I installed a handle on each side for easier moving. With 2 people it can easily be transported. If you work with Ableton this thing is amazing to have, and would make a great addition to any studio. It could also very easily be used live as I intended it for.

Meet new Musicians - Mountain Jam Tuesday night at the Feed & Seed (Asheville)

Hi all, every Tuesday night I am hosting Will Ray's Mountain Jam at the "Feed And Seed" club in Fletcher. Local music legends "The Sons of Ralph" are our house band. We do a short set in order to set the mood, and then start getting people up on stage who want to sit in with the band. The objective is to "jam on" some good grooves & standards, be creative, and to have fun.

We have a sign-up sheet which works on a first come, first served basis, so get there early because we need to be done by 9:30pm. Whether you sing, play guitar, bass, fiddle, drums or whatever - this is your chance to show Asheville what you can do, and maybe hook up with some other musicians in the process. We provide the drum kit, amps, PA and pro backup band - you provide the talent and instrument (Guitar, bass, keys, vocals etc). We'll back you up and support you to sound your best.

The "Feed And Seed" is located at 3715 Hendersonville Road in Fletcher, at the corner of Fanning Bridge Road, next to Sunshine Chevrolet. The Mountain Jam hours go from 7:30 - 9:30pm every Tuesday night. And admission is Freeeeeeeeeee!

Come on down and sit in, or just sit back and enjoy the music and the anything-can-happen atmosphere. This is a family type establishment, with no smoking and no alcohol. They have a nice concession stand there where you can buy bottled water and soft drinks and snacks. It's a place where the music speaks for itself.

Trumpet Looking for SERIOUS FUNK (Franklin, Sylva, Asheville)

Hey moved to Franklin a year ago. A 10 year veteran of the Tampa reggae/funk/world music scene. I play trumpet and can sing backup vocals. I am looking to join or create a serious funk or roots reggae (or both) kind of band. Specifically, I want to be in a band with honest to goodness bowel-dropping bass grooves with syncopated drum rhythms. Top this with some slicing 2 or 3 part horn harmonies that are effing tight, along with some sweet background vox, a soul-stabbing clean guitar, and a lead vocalist that knows how to read a crowd. Call and response type, vamp type grooves. Some old DC go-go shit if you know what I mean. Something where the groove is SOLID. I want to be in a band that is comprised of serious musicians who are constantly trying to improve and sharpen their sound, NOT some dudes that "do it for the free beer, man". The goal in my eyes is to have a band that people cannot resist dancing to and having a great time. I am not the best soloist, but I am always improving, but rhythmic detail and sharp horn lines are my forte. Covers are absolutely okay with me, as long as what is played keeps the party jumping, and not some "interpretive" slop thrown together for filler. I can do all covers I don't care, I just miss playing to a hyped crowd that is into that dirty dirty funky reggae sound.

the folks at pisgah brewery have been kind enough to say folks can meet there to play on tuesdays. i am an intermediate mandolin player looking for some folks to do a little casual jamming. i don't pick leads real well, just strum chords and sing a little. i like playing neil young, grateful dead, bluegrass, or other cool songs. recent songs learned include wagon wheel, how can it be wrong if it grows wild, 1952 vincent. i am trying to get some momentum going on a tuesday jam at pisgah. it is a very chill location, with great beer! i will be there a little before 6:00pm, and they stay open until 9. we will play in the game room out back that has some comfy couches. the brewery is tricky to find if you have never been there, so make sure you have directions from their website, or shoot me an email and i will get you there. hope to see you there.

Let's Start a PsyFolkRock Band (West Asheville)

Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist looking to try once again to start an original rock band from the ground up. I have a few musician friends to help get things going (drums, guitar, bass, keys) but no one who can really make a commitment right now (well, maybe drums...we'll see). I have practice space, a small PA, some mics, drums, and a solid body of existing original material. I would like to collaborate with creative players, so your original songs/ideas are welcome provided that our styles are complimentary. Though I do not wish to create a jamband (preferring well-crafted, lyrical compositions) it is important that you have a good ear, excellent rhythm, sensitivity to nuance, improvisational ability, and ideally some understanding or appreciation of the Grateful Dead. Would you like to help sponsor a local weekly jam in town? Will Ray's Mountain Jam is looking for a few sponsors to help out with some of our jam night expenses. A sponsorship is an ideal way for an amp or guitar builder to get their equipment into the hands of some of the best musicians in town. Plus it's a great way to get your gear exposure in front of live audiences. We've had musicians such as David Holt and Bobby Cochran perform, as well as band members from the Hellecasters, Bill Monroe, Vassar Clements, Rhonda Vincent, Michael Nesmith, Carlene Carter and Ronnie Milsap.

Members of the house band as well as guest musicians can play thru your equipment and check things out during the breaks so that audience and musicians can hear firsthand what your gear sounds like. House band members also "talk up" your product throughout the evening in a fun way.

The Mountain Jam occurs every Tuesday at the Feed and Seed in Fletcher. It's free admission to the public, and the people come there to listen to the music, not to drink, fight or carry on. There's a built-in audience of musicians of all levels, from professional to beginner. It's a great way to build a local following for your product.
