An exception may be the Support Staff person who receives a permanent assignment to a particular work area. In that case, the Manager may schedule additional hours for the Support Staff person, as allowed by the Work Training and Creative Arts Program Director. In short, each Support Staff’s role and schedule will be highly individualized and may change weekly.
(NOTE: These duties may change at any given time, this is just a basis for the position). There is no guarantee of a position if any come open, but you will be given first opportunity for a paid position.

Lodge Advisor - Non-Profit Mental Health (Mill Spring, NC)

MUST LIVE ON SITE WHEN ON DUTY. Housing/meals furnished for a nominal fee. A critically important role, the Lodge Advisor has incredible relational ability and power to assist residents in integrating with the therapeutic community life of CooperRiis, in feeling more at-ease and less dis-eased, and more in relationship instead of isolated. Lodge Advisors should be beacons of hope for each resident.

A Lodge Advisor will reside in each of the Lodges and will be on duty from 4 PM through the evening. He or she (or a couple) will tend especially to the social and physical aspects of CooperRiis life in the evenings. Face-to-face contact will be made with each resident residing in the Lodge each evening. The Advisor will also sleep in the Lodge and be available to be awakened, should a resident need assistance. The Advisor will be trained to dispense medications under the authority of the CooperRiis Nurse. In order to round out a 40-hour workweek, the Lodge Advisor will be given assignments by the Lodge Manager that are generally lodge-related.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Engages fully into the recovery process for each resident in his or her Lodge. As an extension of the Clinical Team, the Lodge Advisor has a thorough understanding of each resident’s Individual Recovery Plan and actively assists each resident in attaining the Plan’s goals.
2) Begins work by 4 PM, first by taking stock of his or her residents. This will include checking in with ‘250 messages’ to learn of any pressing issues. Initial encounters with residents at this time will be as an Influencer, helping to move the residents toward a positive evening experience.
3) Continues taking stock of residents during and after dinner as a Listener/Influencer, picking up on emerging issues while continuing to help move residents into a positive evening experience, especially by encouraging their participation in the planned evening social/recreational activities. Targets interactions to address any pressing issues that have been identified.
4) Responds to emerging critical needs or crises. The Lodge Advisor is to be present for his or her full Lodge of residents and may not be able to spend large amounts of time with only one or two residents. If a resident needs more intensive support, the Lodge Advisor should reach the Lodge Manager or the person on-call who will provide this support. Also, if a crisis begins to emerge, the Lodge Advisor is to notify the Lodge Manager, the person on-call or immediately call 911 if the situation warrants this.
5) Facilitates ‘spontaneous’ social experiences in the Lodge for residents who have chosen not to attend other planned events. This could include games, discussion groups, etc., basically encouraging residents to ‘hang out’ and relax.
6) Supports residents in their goals to improve matters of personal hygiene; this includes encouraging/training residents in ways to improve the cleanliness of their bedroom and bathroom. (Note: The Housekeeping Manager will provide the Lodge Advisor with room inspection reports.)
7) Administers PRN medications as needed.
8) Documents, as needed, on each resident with special concerns, before 10:30 PM. Most often this is in the form of leaving recorded documentation on ‘264’ for the morning staff’s review.
9) Functions as the first responder for on-call services throughout the night; goes off active duty at 10:30 PM to 11 PM but may be awakened by a troubled resident who needs assistance.
10) Attends meetings as assigned by the Lodge Manager, especially the planning meetings for the residents for whom the lodge advisor has been assigned as a member of their recovery team.
11) Attends Staff Meeting when available and Educational Meetings when scheduled.
12) Rounds out the remainder of a full-time work week by participating in roles defined by the Lodge Manager.
