She is a wonderful intelligent dog who may be semi-deaf, and very head strong. We can't say for sure what her life before the shelter was like because her former owners loved her so much they threw her over our back fence (about 7 ft with barb wire) at night while we were closed. She was evaluated at home by one of our volunteers, and she does very well with other dogs and cats. She is not house trained or used to being indoors but she is very eager to please and could be house trained by an experienced dog owner. She seems to be a little shy around strangers and has a very submissive personality but with lots of love and attention she would make someone a very loving companion. if any dog deserves a second chance, and a loving home its her. PLEASE help make hers and our wish come true and give her the home she really deserves. Due to 2 very generous donations, she has already been spayed and vaccinated. Thinking of Declawing?

Please keep in mind when your vet tells you that it's fine to declaw - that in North America declawing is a 3 BILLION dollar a year business.

Declawing is against the law in 24 countries. Not counties, COUNTRIES.

Declawing often leads to litter box avoidance - so you then have a declawed cat that can't go outside, but won't use a litter box inside:

Behavioral problems frequently haunt declawed cats. By far, the commonest thing we see is cats not using the litterbox. When cats have stress beyond what they can take, it often shows up as a litterbox problem and declawing makes them stress intolerant, in general, for the rest of their lives,” Dr. Harrison, DVM. Dr. Harrison gets 3-12 calls a day about litter box problems in cats and, after ruling out medical problems, 90 percent of the cats with litter box aversion are declawed cats. “Declawing: Behavior Modification or Destructive Surgery”, Animal Issues, 1998

“In some cases, when declawed cats use the litterbox after surgery, their feet are so tender they associate their new pain with the box...permanently, resulting in a life-long adversion to using the litter box. Other declawed cats that can no longer mark with their claws, they mark with urine instead resulting in inappropriate elimination problems, which in many cases, results in relinquishment of the cats to shelters and ultimately euthanasia. Many of the cats surrendered to shelters are surrendered because of behavioral problems which developed after the cats were declawed. Risk factors for relinquishment of cats to an animal shelter: "Among 218 cats relinquished to a shelter, more (52.4%) declawed cats than non-declawed cats (29.1%) were reported by owners to have inappropriate elimination problems." Look down at your hand. Imagine cutting off your fingers at your top knuckle. That is what declawing is. It is not removing a nail - it is removing bone. Regardless of how it is done, it is painful and taking away a vital part of the anatomy of a cat. Would you like to have your fingertips removed - even if it was done with a laser?

Declaw Alternatives - Nail caps - Scratching posts! Vertical and horizontal. - Trim nails (handle paws often as kittens, so they don't mind them being touched and it's super easy. I trim my cat's nails while he's sleeping and he never bats an eye!) It’s much easier than trimming dog nails. - Double sided tape strips for a piece of furniture they have focused on (they don't like the sticky feel) - Micro-suede furniture typically won't be scratched (they want something with texture) Just google for ideas - there's tons of info out there and on forums.

Whimsey is and adorable and totally sweet kitty. She became a young mother at only 5 months old - she is not quite a year old yet and all of her kittens have been adopted. Kiki and Whiskers can be visited uptown Athens at 26 East State Street next to Zoe's and behind Dominos from 9-5pm, Monday through Friday.

KIKI (black) has been waiting for a home for over a year. Poor KiKi was attacked by a dog a few years ago (there is nothing wrong with her eye, she just has it closed), so while she is great with other cats, kids, and people she would rather not live with one of those crazy smelly dogs : ) At our adoption events KiKi just rolls around and shows off while asking for belly rubs, but somehow no one has been paying attention to her : ( She is a beautiful girl who is very friendly and playful. Mouse-hunting is one of her favorite pastimes! She could go to an indoor-only or indoor/outdoor combination home. KiKi was born in 2003 but has many many years left to romp and play (the oldest cat on record is 37!). She does need to get on a diet, recently KiKi gained a bunch of weight at a foster home. We will give you tips to help her with her weight problem. Please give KiKI a loving home that she so badly deserves, she has been waiting much too long! KiKi is spayed, shots UTD, FeLV negative and ready to go!

Whiskers (orange & white) is a VERY playful boy. He's still young, so he's extremely mischievious! He was left out in the cold and hasn't had a proper home in a long time. He was found as a stray and was put into our foster program when his caretakers had to move away. Please give him a forever home so that he can be loved forever! Sergeant Klinger is in the battlefields and he doesn't want to be. He is living outside in an apartment complex that does not allow pets. His owners moved away across the street. They took their dog but left Klinger a month or so ago. He doesn't know what he did wrong.

This guy is SO sweet. He purrs all the time and loves belly rubs. He'll let you hold him like a baby and just wants attention. Although he does not have long hair he has a Maine Coon look to him when you see him in person. You will LOVE this cat!

UPDATE: His face is healing up nicely from the photo pictured. He is also at our foster site uptown and can be visited at Import House 68 N. Court Street, Mon-Sat 10-8pm and Sunday 12-5pm. Needing a happily ever after! (Athens, Ohio)

Hello, I would like to begin this post by distinguishing my need for help. Everyday irresponsible pet owners are looking to rid themselves of their once “loved “companion. Granted some individuals are in fact exceptions. Never the less, I’m that person like many others that ends up providing the love, and care that those abandoned much deserve. I do not run an animal sanctuary nor do I have the ability to save the domesticated animal kingdom, as much as I which the prior statements were true.

The reason I am writing today is to ask for help with three plus cats which I am currently doing my very best to take care of (on top of my five inside cats, four of our own and one foster.) These cats showed up on my porch as many have a mother and her babies. It is financially stressful taking care of them not to mention the tremendous heartache I feel everyday. I’ve been through this many times but it’s never been so difficult to find a suitable foster or forever home. Not being able to do more than I can is a very upsetting feeling. The cat overpopulation in our area is overwhelming! I’m in the process of fixing the young male and hoping to find the funds to fix his sister a.s.a.p. Unfortunately, I was unable to get to the mother fast enough given she is already pregnant. On top of all this, I’m unable to take them inside our home considering my other kitties, our lack of adequate space, and especially because our lease states we must only have one animal.

My biggest problem is the fact that we are moving in late May. We have lived in our current home (an apartment complex) for going on three years. In those years we’ve re-homed 8 cats, had two be hit on the road, took 4 in, made countless trips to the vet, had numerous “talks” with neighbors, and had many cats just vanish. Please note none of these animals were ours but some person who decided they didn’t want the “responsibility.” Living in this place has become horrible for an animal lover. I will surely come back and help/ do what I can yet we cannot do this any longer living here.

If you’re willing to help or know of anyone/ a no-kill organization that can, please contact me. These cats need someone who will work with them as I have. It has taken me the entire two months they’ve been here to get the kittens to come to me. They were borderline feral but they’re coming around. Also if anyone is interested in the kitty I’m fostering (Gracie) that would enable me to take one of the outside kitties in. I need someone who is patient, loving, and understanding of felines. I prefer that the brother and sister be re-homed together and not separated yet it is not a necessity. These guys need a home/foster as soon as possible! With any of the kitties we’ll provide a cat box, litter, food, and toys. Even if it’s to a sanctuary/ orphanage, we’ll donate. Most of these honest pleas for help from animal lovers go unanswered. Anyone who could help is in the same situation. That being a given I’m hoping the right person reads this and can help us. We’re willing to transport out of state if need be to help these guys.

Dashing Danny the Cat Needs a Warm Home (Athens)

This poor guy was dropped off and moved from place to place. He hasn't had a real home in a long time and has a few battle scars to show it. Dashing Danny is a friendly boy and likes to talk to you if you will listen. He's about 1.5yrs old and really wants a home where people will love him and give him the attention he deserves and not throw him out on the streets if they move or get busy.

He was neutered 2/10 so his hormones should be settled down soon and help him relax a bit. He is a very beautiful boy, very large cat with interesting markings. As with any cat, an adjustment period will be needed to adapt to other cats in your home. He would likely be fine with a laid back kitty friend and has been exposed to dogs. He is a light gray tabby cat with very pretty light green eyes and that adorable pink nose!

Hello,.i am looking for some help,.about 3 weeks ago a female cat started coming around my apartmet complex,.she is a grey tabby,.i was sure she wasn't a stray concidering she is so healthy and extremley loveable. Well,.becuase of the snow i have been letting her come inside,.i can't stand the thought of leaving her outside in this weather. I am not allowed to have pets here unless i pay a 325.00 pet deposit,.i am a single mother of 3 and it's just not in our cards to be able to get a pet,.and if they find out she is here it is an immediate eviction,.but like i said,.i just can't put her outside,.well it's become very obvious in the last couple weeks she is pregnant and i expect that she will be having her kittens very soon,.at least a couple weeks. becuae she is such a great cat with great temperment i would keep her if i could,.but i just can't. And i am even more worried because things are only going to get worse if she has her kittens here,..i opened my home to keep her warm,.but now i am getting nervous because i have found out she is pregnant. Regretfully I'm going to have to re-home a younger husky I got off the list from a couple weeks ago, because she's simply driving my other two dogs, my friends, and I nuts. She's a GOOD dog, BUT, she's got far too much energy for us, and she's also the kind of dog that wants to 'play' all the time, till she drops dead. This is not good for people who need to sleep, because as soon as you are out of sight she starts to wander around 'crying'. This was not really evident till a couple days after I got her, because everyone was very excited to have her around, but after two weeks it's finally reached a boiling point, and we can not deal with it anymore.

I hate to have to find a new home for her, honestly, as other then that she's a good, upbeat and healthy dog. She's about 1 year old, has had pups already, and she's a Red and White husky. She's maybe all of 20lbs right now, energetic, good health, all that. I'm not sure on all of her shots, as I did not ask the former owner, but she did get away last week for a couple days, and the people said they gave her a worm pill, so I don't kno.

I would like to get a small re-homing fee to pay for the food I've had to buy for her, or maybe trade her in for another dog that's less 'active'. I got her for my other red and white husky, he adores her, but she torments him too much and I'm afraid the continued escalation will have him attacking her. If I traded her, I'd like to find an older female dog, just one for my male to be around that won't try to eat his face.
