I'm looking for a female co-host that knows her stuff about comic books, video games, cos-play, movies and other geeky things along those lines. You do not need to know it all .... just enough to be able to engage conversation. My next shoot/recording is this Saturday on Nov. 21st @ 1pm and the host should be able to discuss topics and deliver reviews on set. I can't seem to find the original post, but based on your comments, the issue seems to center around the differences between still and motion photography. I am a still photographer, so my insight into video or film is limited. When I charge a client for a shoot (any kind), unless agreed to in advance, my costs include every part of the process, except the rights to my work product. I am willing to sell digital copies of all my work, but that is not included in the original quoted price for the shoot. This would be based on what the client wants. The client does not automatically 'own' my work just because they pay me for my time and expertise. This should all be clearly spelled out before any work is done....in writing.
I agree that the equipment that I decide to purchase should only have an effect on my price IF I can produce a superior product by purchasing it. The client is only paying extra for the superior product, not the equipment itself.
I believe that there is a place for every level of photographer here on CL. The best thing Atlanta could do is begin to understand that 1) You get what you pay for, and 2) Professionals don't, and shouldn't, work for free. Take a look at CL in LA or Chicago or NY. You don't find this kind of tripe there.

We are searching for an experienced and motivates sales team that will promote our services. Here are some details on the position:
Experience in the photography industry is preferred, but we will train the right candidate.
Must have at least two years of consultative sales experience.Must be willing to travel to clients' location to meet with, and close deals.
We will provide you with all marketing, promotions, and sales material
Hours depend on you, but you must have atleast 20 hours per week to dedicate to the job.
You will place ads online, follow up with inquiries, meet with other professionals and industry people.
Experience with Word, excel, and publisher are highly desirable.
This is a commission only position, you will be paid 15% of the gross profit per booked and paid event, 5% at the time of booking, 10% the day after the event. Our average package price is 2,000 dollars, so your average commission per event should be 300.00 dollars. Our last sales rep closed an average of 2 deals per week during the busy season.

If I may address this politely.
In response to $100/hr for a photographer - since this is a Freelance or Work for hire gig, then $100/hr is not out of line - however if this were a full time job like a plumber, computer programmer, CAD designer, etc. working for a company, then yes I agree with the poster.
Since I as well make my living as a creative, I understand both sides of this story, when I work in my office I charge $65/hr - however, if a client asks me to bring $5000.00 worth of video gear to their location for a shoot I charge $125/hr, since A. it is not a fulltime position and B. I've already put out the cash to have all of the gear they need - so in essence they are paying me $65/hr + $60/hr for the gear. Also as being self employed the taxes I pay are Higher than a company employee, so at $100/hr that photographer is only taking home $70/hr and that includes the photographer supplying all the equipment.
As for equipment costs - they vary in all industries, Does a photographer need a $3000 camera, $5000 in lenses, $3000 in lights, ect... NO THEY DO NOT as the job posted could be done with an $800 camera, $800 in lights and a $1000 or less lens - however, clients expect to see expensive gear walk in the door. I have a $4000 video camera that looks like it was purchased at Best Buy and a $1200 video camera that is twice as big and looks more impressive, guess which one get's more comments - that's right the cheap camera makes people go WOW, but the smaller camera has better lenses, gives better quality, etc.
One thing I disagree with is when a photographer wants to charge more for the "rights" to the images. If I pay you to take the photos, then the photos belong to me as we have completed a business transaction - now if you want to come and take the photos for free and if I like them I will purchase the ones I like then fine you can own the "photo rights" - otherwise, I'm paying for your time and expertise and you can go practice your art with someone else. And Yes I understand copyright law and all that you're gonna whine to me about - but if you want more work, then just do the job and quit trying to hold things over peoples head.

So, just to get this straight.. You want a professional commercial/advertising photographer, with all of their camera equipment, studio gear, and high-end lighting supplies, who has "years of experience" doing product photography, to come in, spend a full afternoon shooting, and turn around 50 or more images overnight, for $400?
Oh, wait, you changed the add - now you expect them to shoot video as well. Your entire ad screams out "I want and expect a professional, amateurs and flakes need not apply", and then you set a price that not a single self-respecting professional can do the job for, so all you're going to get are the amateurs, the craigslist trolls, and the people who think "professional" means "someone will give me $25 to take a picture."
I'm curious how long you've been in business, and if you've ever dealt with professional photography before. You MIGHT be able to find a commercial/advertising photography STUDENT willing to work for something in the range of $400 for the half-day, but you'd better believe they aren't going to be retouching your job, FOR FREE, overnight, and FedEx'ing the images at their expense to your other office. And beyond that, commercial day rate pays for the Photographer's time and skills, and generally your right to use the photos internally. You want the photographer to throw in usage rights for product brochures and marketing paperwork on those 50 images for free, too?
Good luck finding one of the Craigslist-trolling amateurs with a camera and a couple of cheap SV hot lamps. When you've wasted your $400 and realize that you need a PROFESSIONAL who has the training, experience, and equipment to do the job you want, and you're willing to COMPENSATE that professional for the years or decades they've spent learning and perfecting their trade, as you did building up your products, you might consider checking the website of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) or Advertising Photographers of America (APA). Their members are well trained, experienced PROFESSIONALS who can do the job - but they bill as professionals, not HS or College students.
For the real professionals out there who follow CL (mostly for entertainment value), don't put up with this kind of crap. Yes, the economy is tough and we all need to make a living, but taking sh*t jobs like this with unrealistic pay only HURTS the market and all of us in the long run. Let them find an amateur to shoot this on auto-everything for cheapskate pay and then come back and hire a real pro for real pay.
