A project can be as little as a few sheets of paper that describe what your designing all the way up to and including a finished robotic device. We have the whole "party room" to ourselves! :) We have 110v power and a video projector, so feel free to bring a laptop or other portable electronics.

Our typical mix is artists, engineers, teachers, hobbyists and sometimes just folks that peer in to see what all the racket is about! :) We are kid friendly and encourage young people to become "junior members".

I am a Wife and Mother of 17 month old twin girls. I have 3 dogs and would like to have people come to my house with no kids. Due to the fact that I dont socialize my children.

I would like to start my own group for people that have Bipolar disorders along with Agoraphobia and insomnia. Talk about how we all feel and be able to know that what we say stays within the group. I would like to keep it small. 2-4 people is what I would like to do. I am free during the week between 7-4:30. Nights from 7-9 pm.

I see a doctor and take medication. I just want to help others and be around people that understand me. That way we can get the help we need from being around others that care about how we feel.

The soon to be released, “This Is It” has Michael Jackson fans pumped and excited to revisit his last weeks before his untimely passing, just four months ago.

Get ready for an upbeat King of Pop to show exactly what he was put on this earth for, to dance, sing and pour his soul out to all his fans.

The “This Is It” film is more a behind the scenes documentary showing the rehearsals of his 50-show run at London’s O2 arena and was to be the King of Pop’s final tour. Because he was in the middle of these rehearsals led many to believe he was too frail or sick, or even under the influence of drugs to be able to complete this tour.

This was to be the King of Pop’s final tour. If you are thinking that Michael would be frail, sickly or under the influence of drugs as some have implied, think again. He is anything but that.

Director and Choreographer Kenny Ortega had a huge task before him with over 100 hours of rehearsal footage to choose from. The documentary completed is almost two hours of Michael’s rehearsals including his biggest hits like “Billie Jean”, “Wanna Be Startin Something”, “Smooth Criminal” and “Black and White”.

He was upbeat, joking and laughing and showed such compassion and kindness toward his team members even though he guided them with a firm hand. He strived for perfection from himself to each member of the dance team, including the musicians, and special effects team alike. And after each practice he always gave a “God Bless” or “It’s all for love” to everybody.

You can see that he always wanted everyone to laugh and have fun. It was very interesting to watch Michael because he was such a perfectionist and it showed.

From the musicians to the dancers, to the special effects, Michael guided his team with a firm hand, but yet showed much compassion, love and kindness toward everyone around him. He was always quick to give a “God Bless” or “It’s all for love” at the end of every practice.

He loved to love us. I think this film helped me cope with his passing. A way to keep Michael in our hearts, as we are in his.

Music Mix / Compilation Club Needs A New Member

Do you commonly make CD, podcast, or og compilations for your friends? Do you enjoy music of the independent rock & pop persuasion? Are you on the hunt for great new music on a near daily basis? Do you like surfing Web radio stations for the next artist to love?

If the answer to all or most of these questions is yes, please read on if you're interested in joining a club dedicated to music sharing and appreciation.

The format of the club is as follows:
- Every week has a different member assigned so the rest of the club gets something new each week.
- Each mix/CD/compilation can involve a theme of the creator's choosing (or no theme at all)
- All virtual (group email) and snail mail (to distribute your mixes via CD)
- Each member is a designated a rotating week approximately every 8 weeks (e.g. 2nd week of every other month) to create a stereo-playable audio CD mix and snail-mail a copy of the mix to all other members.

Requirements for all members:
- A PC or Mac capable, blank CD-R discs, and a program for burning CD mixes
- Reliable, timely production and mailing of mix on turn (each member is allowed one "mulligan" for holidays & emergencies)
- At least one communication to the group when mixes are mailed, and responsive to club emails requesting feedback
- Creation of audio format CDs playable in any stereo (not MP3 or data CDs requiring a computer to hear)
- Inclusion of at least a numbered artist & track listing, and a plastic case or paper CD sleeve

Nice-to-haves:
- An enjoyment of music writing (some past members have include musical essays/ramblings and/or track-by-track comments with their mixes)
- An enjoyment of music exploration/challenges

It's Here!!! The Much Awaited Vegetarian Chili Cook Off Of The Year!

On Sunday, November 15th, the 21st Annual Lone Star Vegetarian Chili Cook-Off will be underway. Vegetarians, and even non vegetarians, from all over Texas will be here in Austin to compete in the annual best tastin' heart-healthiest chili cook off EVER.

Contestants will be making an array of delicious meatless chili, many with exotic flavors, unexpected ingredients, varying on the heat index. Some of the chili will have an amusing kick, a nice smooth flavor, a good balance of spices and peppers while others will be spicy and tasty with an impressive and aggressive tang.

Winners receive fabulous trophies and cash prizes. Celebrity judges select the winners for First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100) and Best In Show ($100) awards.

The cook off is open to the public and admission is only $7 for adults (13 years and older), $3 for children (6 to12 years) and free for children (5 and younger). Attendees get to taste all the vegan chilies and vote for their favorite. The winners of the Peoples' Choice award receive a trophy and a $250 cash award!

There will be lots of chili to taste, high spirited competition, many interesting people to meet, great mingling, guest speakers, fabulous door prizes, knee slapping and toe tapping live music, children's table, face painting, animal and animal related groups, animal adoptions, exceptional vendors and interesting, educational booths and exhibits.

Floorball is a fast paced team sport that’s simply described as a safer and more exciting version of floor hockey. Floorball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world today. It is played indoors on foot using lightweight plastic sticks and a whiffle ball. The rules are easy to learn and there is no physical contact; game play centers on ball control, quick passing and lots of running. It's a great coed game and it's very addictive. You're having so much fun you won't even notice how good of a workout you're getting...

I want to start a local support group for parents/caregivers for raising children with ONH- Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. We can help eachother discover resources and meet other parents that are going through the same things. I am a stay at home mom with a 2 year old that has bilateral ONH. She sees a lot of doctors and therapists. So sometimes, you just need to feel "normal" and make sure you're not the only one out there! I'm 47 years old and an alcoholic/depressive and am looking to put together a small "aa" group meeting to discuss our issues in depth. I have found the regular meetings too large, too impersonal and everyone is just in a rush to get out of there. Iam not "officially" affiliated with "AA" so i do not want to give that impression here. I do recall hearing once that anyone can have an AA meeting anytime anywhere. I have been through rehab and am sober one year now.

If ur interested in partaking please respond. Thinking of doing these meetings outdoors--most likley at Zilker Park or somewhere else if u have a suggestion. I find that there is never enough time to really dig into the issues at AA. No one every give u much feedback. I need more dialouge--open and honest. And non-judgmental. Will keep group to probably 5-6 people. Maybe even less depending on how it works itself out.

It will be a Q & A session, so if you come prepared with some written questions we can get the meeting off to a rolling start! Dr Guli has experience treating child and adolescent emotional/behavioral issues, Asperger Syndrome and more. She has been working in an educational and/or clinical setting for 15 years. Dr. Guli has been a presenter to our group in the past with Dr. Mike Brooks, and we are appreciative that she has offered to answer more of your questions!

The Q & A will last an hour and a half - from 2:00pm - 3:30pm. If you would like to stay for an additional hour to visit with other group members, please do - we have the space until 4:30.

Women's Hand Drumming Group (South Austin)

A group of women (30's to 70's) learning and playing beautiful rhythm harmonies on West African drums. We don't have any particular agenda, besides spending an indulgent hour and a half each week immersed in rhythm and having fun! Beginners always welcomed. No experience necessary - It's very easy to learn basic rhythms on the Djembe (played with hands) and Dunduns (played with sticks)...and you feel so wonderful afterwards! You can join us anytime. Charge is Sixty dollars for SIX, ninety minute classes.

Primarily Primates (Veggie Chili Cook Off)

Primarily Primates, Incorporated is a non-profit sanctuary in Bexar County , Texas that operates to house, protect, and rehabilitate various non-native animals. The private refuge currently houses several hundred nonhuman animals, and, as the name implies, focuses primarily on caring for apes and monkeys. Many are cast-offs from the pet trade and biomedical research institutions. Individuals who have been accepted into the refuge include chimpanzees once used in space training and testing protocols by the United States Air Force and Oliver, a chimpanzee once paraded on television shows as the "humanzee" due to a habit of walking upright.

Starting a weight loss group (N Austin and Cedar Park Area)

I am a 32 yr old stay at home mom with a small business in Austin. As my twin boys approach their 5th birthday, I am finding that I am not any closer to my weight loss/ fitness goals that I set for myself years ago. I personally would like to lose 40 lbs or to be perfectly honest, it's probably more like 50-60 lbs. My main goal is to get healthy, but it would also be a plus if I could be as thin and as active as I was just 5 years ago.

It's time to get serious and one thing that I've learned is that positive support and accountability are a must. So, that's why I'm wanting to start this group...a group that will together decide the goals and expectations. This group will also be self-paced, but also have the accountability of each other to keep up motivation and challenge.

There is currently no min or max set for weight loss goals (lbs to lose), but that is something that we can discuss once the group begins to form. There are many directions that the group can take and I have lots of ideas, including walking/excercising together (we'd start slow at first with the excercise) also sharing healthy cooking ideas, grocery shopping/cooking together and several other general support activities. Again, if you join this group, you'd be building it from the ground up with me and we will completely from it to meet our specific needs. That's why I chose to do this rather than join weght watchers or something like that.

Lone Star Vegetarian Network

WHAT:

For the 21st year in a row, the Lone Star Vegetarian Network (LSVN) is messin' with a serious Texas tradition. On Sunday, November 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., teams from across the Lone Star state will gather at the Historic Farmers Market in Austin to compete in one of the fiercest competitions in the field of chili cookin'. Yes, it's a high-spirited event, but it's also fun, healthy and animal friendly. It's the best tastin' and heart healthiest Chili Cook Off Ever!!!!

Chili teams create an amazing array of delicious meatless chili to taste. With unexpected ingredients, consistencies and flavors on a wide range on the heat index, these magical concoctions will both delight and dazzle the vegetarian and the non-vegetarian. The chilies range from mild and spicy with a good balance of flavors to fiery, toenail curling chili with an aggressive use of peppers. Contestants go wild with their creative use of ingredients…….which is only limited by their imaginations. And boy, are they imaginative!

Chili teams also compete for the best booth. They tend to be extravagant in their creative themes, costumes and decorations.

ACTIVITIES:

A day filled with tasty vegan competition, compassionate camaraderie, mingling, "celebrity judges," significant cash awards and enviable trophies for winners, knee slapping and toe tapping live music, animal rescue groups, animal adoptions, children's table, face painting, fabulous door prizes, exceptional vendors and interesting, educational exhibits. It's a "must attend Texas event of the year."

COST:

Free for 0-5, $3 for 6-12, $7 for 13 and older.
