Terrible Experience with Angela Michelle Weddings (MD/DC)

I am writing with a warning for brides-to-be and wedding vendors alike. I've recently had an awful business experience with Angela Michelle Weddings who may also be known as It's Your Special Occasion.

I am a professional musician in the Baltimore Metro Area and was hired by Angela to play at a wedding in late March of this year. Everything went smoothly at the ceremony and reception, she thanked us for being there, and gave me a check for $600. I paid the violinist and guitarist out of my checking account because I was hired for the gig. A week later the check for $600 from Angela bounced. I have called her numerous times, sent her numerous emails, and after not hearing back from any of them am forced to take the issue to the Maryland State's Attorney.

I would highly recommend against anyone doing business with this company. Her conduct has been incredibly unprofessional, and I wouldn't want anyone (bride, musician, photographer, etc.) to have to deal with a similar situation.

Getting married is expensive much less during the worst economy since the great depression. Our company would like to help you save money on your photography. We are currently offering an Wedding Photography Stimulus package for 2009 to make photography more affordable. Our packages normally start at 3x this special rate! Here is what you get for $599.00. -Experienced Professional Photographers with professional equipment.
-Fully Insured (ask every photography pro you interview if they have business liability insurance. hotels and reception sites REQUIRE photographers to have this insurance and they ASK for proof of it prior to allowing them to shoot on their premises.) A lot of photographers advertising on here do not have insurance. The liability insurance is already priced into the cost
-4 hours minimum of shooting.
-Editing of all your photos prior to putting them on DVD for you
-Photo shoot at brides house prior to ceremony depending on time

-Engagement photo session $99 if you are in or willing to travel to our local area
-DVD with Hi-Resolution photos with copyrights so you can print wherever you would like to print (we can recommend some quality professional labs to ensure your photos look their best). Some photographers may agree to shoot your wedding at a very cheap cost but will charge YOU and your guests a lot of money for prints. 8x10s selling for over $50 EACH is not unheard of and 4x6 for over $25 each is not unheard of. You can get your photos at our cost directly from our professional print lab. Photographers make multiple times what you pay them to shoot when they sell the photographs to you. Make sure you factor into the price you want to spend on your wedding photography the cost of prints for you and your guests.

-Unlimited Number of photos to be taken (as many as I can take). We typically take between 500-1000 photos per wedding event depending on how long we are shooting.

-Website hosting of all your photos for family and friends to view slide show of your wedding day and purchase photos. Friends and Family can download Hi-res images for free off of our website. A professional Lab is used to print the photos and there is NO-MARK up on wedding photos.

-Consultation in person! I like to meet with everyone I plan on working with and get to know them before the wedding day.

-You have the option of adding a second professional photographer for an extra $400-500 depending on who we use and their availability. We use professionals as second shooters not assistants. Most of the professionals we use charge at least $1500-2000+ for their own weddings.

I am an experienced photographer of 20 years. For the past couple of years my passion and specialty has been weddings! Unlike many wedding photographers I am not monetarily driven to do this work and I would do it for free if I didn't have business expenses to pay. I am very passionate about photography and every wedding I shoot touches my heart. My preferred style of shooting is photojournalism although I enjoy taking formal posed photos as well. Photojournalism is an approach based on documentation: telling a story of the wedding day using photographs. I love photographing a wedding and freezing moments in time unnoticed with my camera. To be given the honor of recording a bride and groom's special day is an honor that I don't take lightly. I've decided to have this wedding photography special so we can shoot more weddings this year. Instead of charging more money and shooting less weddings I would rather do more weddings and charge less because I love what I do.
