Baltimore/Carroll County Mom's (Sykesville/Owings Mills/Reisterstown)

Baltimore and Carroll County Mom's

This is a group for both Mom's who are looking to get out of the house and make new friend's! I mean we love our kids but you can only watch so many repeats of Spongebob, before you go stir crazy! This group aims to have fun playdates whether its out with kids playing hard and getting worn out, or doing arts and crafts- sneaking a little learning in the fun too. And even some Mom's nights out here and there (we deserve fun time once in a while too!)

Having some experience being in a play group before, I know that this is a great way to make friends, ones that understand what a hard day with the kid's is like! We can share our experiences, or even just vent about teething, terrible twos, tantrums that make you want to hide in public!

**Once the group is up and running I would like to start a alternating host for meetups. Allowing us to explore different activities and ideas for playdate.

Writing Group formed ... Looking for a couple members. (Hampden (21211))

Hey all,

So, we have three members in our group right now and while that is great, we feel there is something missing. We are looking for a couple more people to help round us out in terms of quality, temperament and style. While we are three awesome writers, there are entire genres that we just don't touch upon (romance, fantasy/sci-fi, mystery, etc.) and it would be cool if we had some more writers to feed our imagination and provide fresh eyes for our writing. We meet once a month and occasionally have sessions just over the internet. All of us write fairly prolifically and with the intent of eventual publication. We would like someone with as equally strong of a drive.

Our group runs like this:

A week before our meeting, we email the piece we want to be reviewed.
We meet once a month, Sunday morning.
For the first 15-30 minutes, we work on a writing prompt. After the time is over, we share what we have written.
Then, we go around and review everyone's piece: what we like, what didn't work, suggestions for improvement. We don't really hold back and it is good to have a thick skin, but we make sure to have total respect. However, if we don't like something, we will let you know.
After everyone has been reviewed (about 15 minutes per review), we sometimes give out an assignment to be completed and decide on our next meeting.
Then we go home and (normally) get quite a boost to our writing drive.

If interested, give us an email!

Thanks,

Members of the Writing Group (of Awesomeness)

Introducing HoCoSo for Howard County Social activities! (Howard County, MD)

HoCoSo is completely FREE to join!

HoCoSo is a new social network (est. January 22, 2010) specifically devoted to the needs of young (or young at heart) professionals in Howard County, located in central Maryland. HoCoSo stands for Howard County Social, and uses the now common HoCo abbreviation for Howard County along with a short-version of the word Social. You can reach the network’s new web site, created on the popular social network platform Ning, via domains: www.HoCoSo.com and www.HoCoSocial.com.

As the HoCoSo group creator, I found myself often traveling outside of Howard County to meet up and hang out with social groups advertised on the Meetup.com web site, but I knew there was a plethora of places to see and explore locally in Howard County. So, I thought, why not start a group here instead? When it came time to put the new idea online, I opted for the Ning platform since there is so much more customization and community possible versus the Meetup.com website. These additional benefits, features, and lower-cost hosting (allowing for free membership) will come in very handy for HoCoSo once it is a bit more established.

If you live in or near Howard County and would like to experience networking and fun right in your own backyard, then this group might just be for you. Support local business and make new friends at the same time.

So, give it a look, and help spread the word to other local professionals and let’s have fun right here in Howard County.

Book Club Sci-Fi/Fantasy (Baltimore)

Hello!

I am looking to start a book club that would read fiction and focus on different books within either the sci-fi or fantasy genre. I would like to have monthly meetings and each month a member could suggest the next book. I have wanted to join a book club for a while, but haven't had much interest in the books they seem to be reading. This group wouldn't have to only read sci-fi and fantasy, but I think it could be a good start. I am in the Baltimore City area, but meeting spots could vary each month depending on where people live.

Email me if you are interested or if you have any ideas.

Gathering good Samaritans... (Baltimore)

Hello neighbors! This is the second post I've put up this week and I will put up as many as necessary to attract more and more involvement. I hve a dream of making our communities in Baltimore better places to live in with better people to live with. I'm starting a group of good Samaritans focused on love, friendship, and strenthening Baltimore. A few people have agreed to become members and we welcome as many people as possible. We will be doing anything we can to just "help" anyone we can. I would like to start holding meetings by the beginning of april. Eventually I would love to see this group become strong enough to be a non-profit organization. The hardest part of that is the organization, help us help our community. That is all we are doing. Think of all the strangers as friends you haven't met yet. You would do anything to help a friend, we will do anything to help a stranger and hopefully they will join us and help someone else. This group is open to any race, creed, or social class. We will not be religious or politcal, just human beings making changes and seeing eye to eye and living, working, and playing together in peace. I'm not trying to start a cult. If you would like to join us or have any questions please feel free, you have my email address. My name is Joshua. If you would like to read the other posting, it's in this section, titled "love, friendship, and our community" thank you for reading.

Females Needed for Coed Softball Team Thursday Nights (Woodlawn, MD)

Cliff notes: (Coed Softball Team is looking for 2 more female players. There is already a waiting list for male players. Please read below for information on the team. If you or anyone you know would possibly be interested please pass it on.

Hello,

I am the coach for the Hit Squad coed softball team that has been playing for 4 years now. Our games take place on Thursday nights around the Woodlawn/Security Blvd area at local elementary schools.

Thursday Nights usually goes something like this: Someone on the team every week is responsible for bringing a case of beer (every player will have only one week to bring it). We get to the field around 5-5:30. First game is at 6 and the second game is at 7. After our game (if you choose to) we go to Moontimes Cafe which is a bar that pays for our season (our sponsor) to eat and drink from 8:30 until when ever people feel like leaving.

We are more of a fun drinking team that does ok, not too serious. Our record last year was 11-11. At the end of the season it’s a tournament playoff meaning every team goes. We have won at least one game in the playoffs every year. The league has about 16 teams. The season is every Thursday from April till August. People go on vacation or can’t make it some weeks and that's fine just let me know in advance.
