Some people say John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, 'If I were any better, I would be twins!' He was a natural motivator.

There's a woman that my wife & I work with who is very shy. She doesn't usually share much about herself so we don't know her very well. At the beginning of the last week, a group of us were gathered around the water cooler. This woman was there too. usually she is fairly quiet, but today she was unloading all her woes.....We listened (without interrupting) while she shared her many concerns and life challenges and problems with the group. Some of the group rolled their eyes or tried to change the subject I suspected because they did not want their precious break time spent on someone else's problems. We could tell she was really stressed and disheartened. Even, her appearance spoke volumes - her posture was poor with slumped shoulders, she has deep furrow lines on her forehead, her eyes had no sparkle and she had dark circles. She seemed to be surrounded by a dark cloud. {Do you know anyone like that?}
so the Mahindra light truck is going to be sold in Bend, according to the website(www.mahindrana.com). But they haven't rolled out the line yet so they won't give specific dealerships. So I am wondering who it is, because I want to be first in line with these guys. Its got a 7 foot bed and its a DIESEL so it get 30 mpg. The rumor is they will build a diesel-hybrid in a couple years and that will get better milage than a prius... and carry more than a tacoma. All very interesting yes, but I need to know who is selling them first...
I was just checking if there is anyone out there who attends Sat. nites @ the Westside Church and if so if there would be room for my daughter and I to ride with you? We are located on the eastside of Bend. Thanks, Tony @ 610-4283

While attending the resume workshop at the Bend Workforce last Monday someone stole a manila envelope from my briefcase during the break. These documents are licenses and certificates that I worked hard to earn and will be extremely difficult for me to replace. Army discharge papers, Bachelors degree diploma, firefighter training certificates, Commercial pilot certificate, PSIA ski instructor certificate, etc. You must return these to the lost and found at Workforce office. If you attempt to steal my identity, or alter any of these documents you will be caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law. For once in your life, do the right thing, please.

A 10 month old black lab mix has little if no time left. This energetic un-aggressive animal has been returned to the bend humane society one to many times and will no doubt be euthanized. His only crime is not having been given enough attention and exercise!! Please inquire at the Bend Humane society asap. I belive it is cruel to have this policy of euthanasia after animal is returned too many times. First they do not give the history of an animal being returned before, secondly could they not offer free adoption with dogs that will need training! I would rescue him if I could, I hoping somebody can. He needs an owner that understands dogs.

"My wife & I were sitting in a restaurant in Bend one morning. While eating our breakfast, we had been discussing "bills" and the lack of money to pay them all. I kept dwelling on how it was affecting my mood, and how it was making me unhappy..etc. Then, it came to me: perhaps my plight should be the means for someone else's happiness. We noticed a mother and daughter sitting across the way from us. We went up to the waitress and asked for their check as well as our own. We headed for the counter, and paid for their meal. We didn't bother to stick around for any sort of reaction. We were so excited and had such a great feeling that my legs were shaking. I would just like to think they were able to enjoy the surprise." ...I bet they did!

Mental Health Tips for Sanity in Desperate Financial Times (Bend)
Stay aware of the thoughts you have, what you're telling yourself. Reality is harsh enough; don't add to it by telling yourself a story about your situation that increases your sense of despair and doom. If you find youself saying, "I'm a failure, I'll end up on the street or worse," replace that thought. Remember a time when you succeeded at something difficult, identify the strengths you used in that situation, and say THAT to yourself: "I got through that rough time a few years ago because I'm good at solving problems. This is another hard time, but I AM a good problem solver." Be your own best friend right now.
If you have friends or family to share the details of how bad you feel your situation is, love that family. If you don't, find someone you can share the details with. It's important to feel understood. You may not want the whole world to know you're struggling--but share it with a trusted person.
Realize your energy levels may ebb and flow. Some days you might not feel like getting out of bed. If you don't have obligations to meet, take it easy, make it a day of self-care. On those days you feel better, use the time to put all your focus on changing your situation for the better. Do what you can do. Send out applications, find something in the garage to sell on craigslist, network, get out there.
Use relaxation and meditation techniques to calm your mind and body. This breath you're having right now is all you're guaranteed in life, so notice it, appreciate it, focus on it. There are many books on the subject. Two good ones are Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" and Jack Kornfield's "A Path With Heart." Much of suffering is worrying about the future, dwelling on the past. Just notice when you're doing it.
Exercise. To whatever extent you're capable, do it. It turns on the brain's relaxation response. If you can't walk or run, sit and do small weights activities. You can find exercises to do on that very computer you're using right now... Run, walk, take a karate class (one month free at Bend Karate Club--great people, great exercise. Low cost after first month.) Exercise helps depression as much as therapy does.
Distract yourself at least once a day from thoughts about your situation: Watch a movie, get books from the library, create something, fix something around the house or car. Meanwhile the world will turn, things will change. Big Tip: Stay away from alcohol if you tend to use THIS as a distraction. You don't need more problems right now. Other drugs won't help in the long run either.
Be aware that relationships may be under stress now too. If you're worried about finances, that can take a toll on marriage/partnerships and parenting skills. Monitor your thoughts and feelings. Would you think this thing about your partner or feel that way about your kids' behavior if you weren't so stressed over finances?
Crisis happens. How you deal with it might mean you'll look back at this time a year from now and see how much you grew as a person. Crisis tends to shake us out of ruts, places we've been stuck but were too afraid to change on our own. Change is good if we don't try to cling to a past notion of what our life was like, and accept our reality for what it is right now.
Best wishes, Katie Terrel, MS, NCC

Ever get depressed? Allergies for no reason?...
Choosing to Live Fully--
If a friend was having a bad day, John was there telling them how to look on the positive side of the situation. Seeing his style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"
He replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood, or you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood....."Everyday"
Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim, or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining, or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."
"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.
"Yes, it is," he said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life."
A few years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a cell phone tower. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back. I saw him about six months after the accident.
When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins...Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place. "The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter," he replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live."
'Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?' I asked. He continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action."
'What did you do?' I asked. "Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," "She asked if I was allergic to anything. "Yes, I replied." The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Gravity." Over their laughter, I told them, "I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."
He lived, thanks to the skill of the doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.
Attitude, after all, is everything!
My dear friends, events in our lives will change us and humble us. If it weren’t so then why these life experiences in the first place? May we look at these challenges with anticipation and courage that we may rise to the occasion with confidence that this was the plan from the beginning…to grow, to overcome and to live! Have a wonderful day today, and know that someone in Central Oregon is thinking about YOU today and smiling.
Now be Nice & go Hug somebody!

7 steps in AOD recovery & relapse prevention (se Bend)
2. Separate yourself from people, places and things that promote alcohol or other drug use and establish a social network that promotes recovery.
3. Stop compulsive, self-defeating behaviors that suppress awareness of painful feelings and irrational thoughts.
4. Learn how to manage feelings and emotions responsibly without resorting to compulsive behaviors or AOD use.
5. Learn to change addictive-thinking patterns that create painful feelings and self-defeating behaviors.
6. Identify and change the mistaken core beliefs about self, others, and the world that promote the use of irrational thinking.
[from Terrence Gorski (1990)]
These steps aren't so much a prescription ("Go out and do this") but a description of a process of recovery that works. It's not simple, it involves the social, physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, behavioral aspects of your life.
Add a 7th step to the 6 above: Build up the healthy part of you. Encourage and accept yourself. Explore--find interests, talents, gifts, and skills that may have been buried by your addiction.
And, remember we are herd animals. Find two trusted people with whom you can be completely honest about your addiction, your struggles to change, your slips back into old behaviors, and your dreams of the future.

A One-Week Mission To Bring Cheer
She needed to resolve her issues personally, but my wife & I decided we could bring her sunshine by becoming her personnal CHEER-LEADER every day this week!
We began our cheer mission that Monday. We went out at lunch to buy a card. Robyn, my wife found a fantastic card covered in huge sunflowers with a bright yellow envelope. It was blank inside so she wrote some encouraging words and included a fantastic inspirational story and quote that she clipped from a magazine. We taped it to her computer screen before she got back from lunch so she would see it as soon as she got back and sat down.
Tuesday, we wrapped a sunflower pin in brightly colored tissue and enclosed a smiley stick-um. we attached a note which instructed her to wear the pin when she needed a lift, some sunshine in her life. We explained in the note that sunflowers are a symbol for cheerfulness and hope. My wife also added a second note which said that someone was praying for her - sending her rainbows and wishing her well.
Wednesday - We got in early and left some homemade baked goodies for her to munch with her coffee. I also left her a bunch of jokes and laugh notes to cheer her up.
Thursday - We went in a little early before she arrived, and we left a small potted flowering plant to enhance her work cubicle space. The flowers are yellow.
Friday - We needed something to end the week with a BAM! so it had to be the best one.
We didn't sign our name on any of the gifts nor have we asked her about them BUT we can see that she is smiling more and now has more of a spring to her step so it looks like our little surprises are bringing some much needed sunshine to her cloudy days.

A man named Lawrence
It was 8:00 AM in the morning, and there must have been a look of confusion on our faces and in our voices as we were trying to figure out where the street was that the Church was on. As we chattered amongst ourselves, a homeless man a little ways away yelled at us, “What you lookin’ for?” Ignoring him, our voices trying to figure out what to do got a little more frantic. “Excuse me!, what are you looking for? Powell is up one more street.”
I finally said, after much internal debating, “No, we’re looking for the New Vision Church on Greenway.” “Ohh, I thought you was looking for Powell. Hey Jim,” he said to his friend, “could you watch my stuff while I show these people to the New Vision Church?” His stuff, consisting of a shopping cart filled with who knows what, covered in a blanket. We followed him, listening to his kind funny banter. Lawrence was our tour guide down the streets of Portland. He led, as we tried to inconspicuously gather up some money to give him.
Walking parallel to some city workers who were washing down the streets, we commented on how we were amazed that anyone actually washed the streets. Lawrence told us about how they would spray the homeless people if they were “in the way”. And, this wasn’t just any hose, it was a high powered washer. The image in my mind was awful. These were human beings, after all, not cattle or objects.
This man, full of kindness and humor had gotten drenched in the middle of the freezing night, and instead of yelling at the workers, he asked them, “How would you feel if your father or grandfather was treated you like this?” He then told us his logic, “Yeah, aint no use cussin’ them out, 'cause they just get more angry. Gotta try to get ‘um in the heart.”
How true! The world could be so different if only we could put our anger aside, lower our voices, and try to speak to people’s hearts.
He delivered us safely to the Church, all the while talking about anything and everything. We thanked him whole-heartedly, and told him that we could have never found the place on our own. He agreed with a smile and said, "I have a son your age, and I hope that if he was lost, someone will stop to help him." Something about hearing that from a homeless hit us pretty deep.
We gave him the little money we had put together. He kindly accepted our gift, but really took no notice of it as if the money was inconsequential. He then assured us that there would be “no trouble” for us from any of the other homeless around. “Just say you know Lawrence. They’s know me and there be no trouble for you, promise. Oh, and I will be just over there keeping an eye on yous. Have a great day.”
We thanked him again and again, wishing him a good weekend as he walked back down the street.
Not only did Lawrence break down all the stereotypes of fear and mis-trust in our minds, he helped us find our way, in more ways than one. Feeling silly for fearing him, I now can imagine him in normal clean clothes being the most presentable and personable man. More important than even all that, this man taught us kindness. There was nothing we could really do to repay him. The only thing I can hope to do, no matter how simple it may sound, is help other people out. Perhaps one of these days it will be his son that I'll be helping out.
Be Nice!

RE: STOP
The majority comes from GMAIL...GOOGLEMAIL...& sometimes HOTMAIL..not all emails from these 3 are SPAM but most of the time you can bet they are!
The SPAMMERS are getting savy to craigslist, to get your email address...they are now posting JOBS & ITEMS for sale that are not legit....
If you have tires for sale or a kitchen appliance or a stuffed animal and you get an email saying "I am interested in the "item" you have for sale".....THAT IS SPAM! do not email them!
You would think that "Craigslist" could do something about all the SPAM but I guess if they can't control the "Flaggers" how can they control the SPAMMERS!?
Good Luck & be careful!

It doesnt hurt to be kind
It really dose make a difference in someone's life and if "Karma' is true or "Reap what you Sow"..then, in the long run, you will benefit from "Your" kindness to others.............
Just yesterday, we were getting an ice cream at Baskin Robbins and going over some material for a Comedy event when these two girls came into the store. They were about 10 and 12 or so, It took the older one about 10 minutes to finally decided on a flavor,..lol..I think it was chocolate chip. So the lady got a big scoop and put it on a cone and handed it to her. Interestingly, though, the other girl didn't get anything even though I could tell she was eyeballing the variety of creams.
The lady started to ring up the sale, and it was at this time that the other girl, who apparently was the younger sister, cried out, "I wish I could have something."
I knew when I heard this comment that it was my opportunity to impart a little something to her. So, I told her that we would be happy to pay for her scoop. She was in utter disbelief. I said "Any flavour you want" and the lady asked her what flavor she wanted - cookies and cream, she said with delight {which is my favorite} and the lady handed her the ice cream. My wife took out the $3 for it and placed it on the counter, I think my wife had the biggest smile in the place.
The little girl was so grateful and her older sister was smiling too. It was truly wonderful to help this little girl and make her feel special for a moment. It was funny, though, how the other customers were all smiling as well. We didn't care that we spent a little, because the feeling we received was worth a million bucks.
Be kind! Try it you will like it!

~adoption
We have gone through all the things required for a state adoption including the home study, the FBI Background check, the First-Aid courses, the Parenting classes and more. We just didn't like our experience of going through the state and decided to try for an independent adoption using just our attorney. We were just hoping to connect with someone that needs us as much as we want them.
We have a lovely home on several acres with farm animals and a swimming pool. We live in a wonderful small, family-oriented community that is safe and has been a great place to raise a family. We are just waiting to welcome more children into our family and share all of this, plus our experience and love with them.
There are so many more things that we'd like to say about our family but there is just not enough time and space for everything. We are familiar with all stages of raising children and we STILL love it! If you or someone you know is thinking of adoption as an option, then please let us know. We have an attorney for all of the legal matters but you can work with us personally. Everything will be done legally and confidentially. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you might have. We look forward to hearing from you soon.~
Thanks so much~
