Marketing and Sales Manager (Sisters, OR)

Job Title: Marketing and Sales Manager
Employer: GFP Enterprises, Inc.
Location: Sisters, OR

Company Description
• The Company is one of the largest private wildfire contractors in the United States, providing trained personnel and associated equipment to meet the needs of the US Forest Service and state forestry departments when government firefighters are insufficient to respond to the size or number of fires.

• Because the firefighting business is limited to the summer months, the Company has developed a second line of work: it designs, installs, and manages Base Camps for first responders to other kinds of emergencies (hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, etc.). A Base Camp is a “tent city” sufficient to provide temporary housing, food service, showers, laundry, power, communications and security anywhere in the United States on 72 hours notice sufficient to support up to 2,000 people. Much of the required equipment is owned by the Company.

• The Company is based in Sisters, Oregon with regional hubs in Albany and Pendleton, Oregon. Its firefighting activity is concentrated in the Pacific Northwest. Its base camp work is more geographically disbursed across the United States, with its greatest activity to date being hurricane response in Louisiana. The Marketing and Sales Manager will be based in Sisters.

Overall Responsibilities
• Serve as a senior member of the management team of a growing enterprise.
• Lead responsibility to develop and implement the Company’s first systematic, pro-active marketing and sales program.

Primary Duties
• Market research – Conduct market research, analyze and synthesize findings, and present it to Company management and the Board in support of the development and monitoring of overall business strategy and resulting marketing and sales priorities. Areas of market research will include, at least:
o Emergency base camp service industries and, to a lesser extent, contract firefighting industry. Also, identification and exploration of commercial opportunities in other functional or geographic markets where our kinds of services, resources and track record could be of substantial value, could provide a competitive advantage and are in demand.
o Current and potential customers , including federal agencies, state agencies, other responders (e.g. insurance companies, humanitarian relief organizations, rebuilding / cleanup contractors, etc.), and private entities (e.g. owners and operators of large facilities affected by disasters, large private landowners, etc.)
o Competitors and potential alliance partners
o Systematic feedback from Company customers about their needs, circumstances, views of the Company and its competitors, etc.

• Outbound marketing – Develop and implement means by which the Company markets itself in support of its business strategy and sales priorities. Recognizing that in some markets it is desirable for the Company to be perceived as a small business and in other instances a perception of being large is a virtue, potential marketing techniques may include:
o Development of a separate identity as an emergency base camp provider (DBA, website, logo, stationery)
o Development of basic sales collateral materials for base camp and firefighting offerings
o Preparation of “prepackaged,” ready-for-tailoring qualifications statements, reference packets, customer testimonials, descriptions of prior assignments, proposal modules
o Website updates
o Arranging one-on-one meetings between Company management and key decision-makers and influencers (including the preparation of talking points, hand-outs, follow-up materials)
o Trade-show involvement

• Sales – Conduct activities directed at selling Company services to target customers directly or through alliances in furtherance of agreed priorities.
o Target and pre-qualify customers and alliance partners
o Establish initial contact
o Manage interactions with prospective customers and allies by other Company personnel including the Company President
o Prepare or coordinate the preparation of proposals
o Manage contract negotiations
o Develop and maintain procedures, reporting mechanisms, metrics and a data base by which sales prospects are catalogued, ranked, tracked and reported in support of financial forecasting, operational planning, sales performance monitoring, and market and strategic reviews
o Support joint marketing and sales with alliance partners

Required Qualifications
• At least five years of prior experience in marketing and selling reasonably analogous service solutions to large private or government institutions
• Market research experience where target customers include government agencies
• Experience in identifying, arranging and managing marketing, sales and service alliances
• Hands-on sales experience as well as sales management background
• Preferably, experience in developing new markets in young industries
• Ability to enthusiastically and effectively represent the entire Company as the sole representative in many sales situations, often away from the Company site
• Willingness to travel
• Very strong writing and verbal skills
• Experience as an active member of a small team that sets and implements Company strategy, and monitors and refines tactics

Please submit resumes by email.
