Consumer Finance Compliance Attorney (Knoxville, TN)

A company located in Tennessee seeks to fill a consumer finance and legal/regulatory compliance attorney position in its financial services division. The position involves working with a state-regulated (i.e., non-depository; non-bank) residential lending and insurance operation.

The primary focus will be on residential mortgage lending (i.e., real estate related mortgage lending), but will also involve non-real estate residential mortgage lending (e.g., manufactured housing lending). Products may include residential retail installment sales, mortgage loans, government-insurance lending programs, purchases and refinance.

The position involves “hands-on” originations and servicing (including licensing, default servicing and loss mitigation) compliance at the state and federal levels - drafting forms, applying new laws, implementing compliance program initiatives, policies and procedures, etc. There will be a significant project-management feel to the position, including oversight of projects through implementation while working with department project managers, IT staff, senior management, etc.

Candidates should have a competent working knowledge with interpreting and complying with federal laws and regulations governing consumer credit, and with their state law counterparts, including TILA/Regulation Z, ECOA/Regulation B, RESPA/Regulation X, HMDA, FDCPA, etc. Experience in more specialized areas is a plus as well - FCRA, FACTA/Regulation V, UDAP laws, GLBA/Regulation P & Safeguards Rule, RFPA, OFAC, PATRIOT Act, and state Uniform commercial Codes.

Required qualifications:
At least 10 years of relevant experience

Preferred additional experience:
Experience with a multi-state compliance practice
In-house attorney experience

Other valuable experience:
Manufactured housing lending experience
Licensing experience (entities, originators, SAFE Act)
Legal management experience

As a paralegal, you will work closely with the attorneys to organize files, maintain schedules, draft correspondence, follow up with clients, assist with intake, conduct legal research utilizing Westlaw and/or Lexis Nexis, conduct general research, assist with claims administration, transactional and litigation work, will make “runs”, and will provide support in all legal matters. You must be timely, polite, flexible and self-motivated, and will work well with the lawyers and staff, and external parties.

2. Coordinate and work with attorneys to organize discovery;
3. File documents in legal;
4. Contact and follow up with clients;

Qualifications:
