Battle of the Bands (High School Edition) (130 Jackson - Downtown Blacksburg)

130 Jackson, a new venue in downtown Blacksburg, will be hosting a battle of the bands the evening of May 1st. We are seeking four to five bands with members in high school to compete. First place prize is $100, second place will receive $50. Bands are expected to have at least fifteen minutes of material, and at least one original song. Sets will be a maximum of twenty five minutes (may change).

Doors will open at 5:30, and the battle begins at 6. There is a cover charge of $3 per person. If interested in competing, please email us the following:

Rock/Metal Band Looking for Bass Player (Rich Creek, VA)

We're a rock band called Compliant2One based in Rich Creek, VA (right outside of Narrows) looking for a bass player. We just got started and are playing covers by Chevelle, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Seether, Tool, Staind...etc. Great practice space with PA and recording equipment, no noise restrictions. We're well equipped and ready to start playing shows. Very laid back bandmates (no drugs) looking for someone with enthusiasm and some degree of commitment. Please leave your ego at home. We're playing a show at the Rock-It Club in Bluefield, WV on March 20th, just in case anybody's in the area and wants to check us out. I'm a singer/guitarist and looking to get together with musicians around the NRV area and jam out. I play different styles (soft and heavy) and often fuse rock, blues, jazz, metal, funk, etc... love to experiment.

No egomaniacs who can't handle to stand next to a woman on stage. I'm very laid back and all easy peacey lemon squeezy and usually tend to get along better with mature folks. This should be FUN, not aggrevation. I don't care what you play, as long as you can rock your instrument. I have band, stage and recording experience and would prefer if you're not a beginner. moving to area; best way to dig the scene?

Hi all.

My day job is moving me to your area, so now I'm looking for opportunities to make music there in the after-hours. Past experience has suggested that the best way to learn the local scene is to hit the jam sessions - is that true in New River Valley and the surrounding area? If so, where are the A-list open-mic jams? How about the B-list? (Nevermind the C-list.)

Of course I know that jams come in different flavors - Jazz jams where everybody knows their Coletrane, Blues jams where everybody knows their Freddie King, free-form Rock jams where everybody knows their Phish, and folk-guitar circles where everybody knows their Pete Seeger. I'm sure there are other types, but I aint hip to things like Bluegrass (nothing against it, it's just not for me).

So, what do you say? What's the scene? How do I get down with it? Any advice at all is most welcome. Hope to jam with you soon.

Alright I will tell you strait I am an older musician who grew up in the 80's as a punk and have played all kinds of music and currently have a hard rock band " Current to the old", but my dream is to have an actual preforming band as in the way of Mushroomhead, Slip Knot, ect. I grew up with bands that I loves like Gwar and I am currently looking for serous musicians that would actually like to have a band that would like put on a real show. Now here is the deal. I have 2 guitar player's, drummer, and me that does regular vocals. I need a bass player, keyboard, extra percussion and another vocalist who can do the deep dark back up be able to write original music and some lead. I am a guitarist out of Radford, 22 years old, and am looking to form a rock band. It's a long shot for sure. I plan to play lead guitar and hopefully find a solid rhythm guitarist. I'm looking to cover songs primarily because to play shows in this area originals are the best, however I do not want to have a cover band. What's up? I am a Guitarist/Bassist of 6 years looking to join or form a band. What I am looking to do is create or join a solid group of dedicated musicians who seriously want to write music. I'm a guitarist(8 years of playing) who plays anywhere from metal to jazz. i do not play country or christian rock(sorry, it doesnt appeal to me.) i play on a seven string guitar(no korn jokes) or an acoustic and like to use effects sparsely, and some feedback. i can solo, and i tend to write my own songs, rather than cover other peoples. i have my own personal equipment, but no pa system or drums. i have a practice space, which can be used at any time.
Ive been in radford for about 4 months, and am looking for either a band or people to form a band with, specifically a drummer. singers are not necessary, but not going to turn away anyone who has TALENT. i also know a bassist, but he may not be interested depending on the type of band direction that we go in. please list off some favorite influences, as well as the style u go for. You need to have your own stuff, as im not buying gear for anyone. if you have an old project, demo tape, myspace, etc. please send it. i am serious about being in a band, and dont want no showers for practice/ gigs(which i intend to get) or people who are overly drugged out or drama queens. if you cant make music without a poor attitude, please look elsewhere.
