Singer/Songwriter Seeks Backup Band Members - Gigs Booked (Columbus, Indiana)

Hi, My name is Megan and I'm a folksinger/songwriter from Columbus, Indiana. I am seeking a backup band who is willing to play my original music (I have tons of it) and also a few covers, like Joplin and Beatles. A few musicians and I are currently rehearsing for several booked gigs, specifically December 12th which is coming up very soon. A few of our members have the desire for a different sound, so I am seeking new members to replace them.

You can check out some of my original, solo music at: www.myspace.com/meganmaudlin. You can also read a review of my performance at Wuhnurth Music Festival (2009) from on-site reporter Rex Thomson with FestivalFamily.Com at: http://www.festivalfamily.com/reviews/182-wuhnurth-music-festival-a-qwuhnq-derful-weekend.

Serious inquiries only, please. Thank you!

Touring Doom/Sludge bands need a show! (Indiana)

We are looking to play in Indiana on Saturday the 13th, we'd rather play in Bloomington or Indy but anywhere around the area would be good to. I am looking for any help anyone would be kind enough to give in setting something up, if you are in a local band that is a bit off center from what the people around you are doing we'd love to hear from you to. Stoner, Doom, Black Metal, Noise, Psychedelic... just as long as it is heavy and you don't have a stick up your ass. House shows, all ages venues or bars. I think we'd rather go the house show route since it is our first tour and we want every night to be a blast.

Here's the links to our stuff, thanks for any info or support you can give. We're happy to trade shows in our respective cities, both bands are heavily involved in their local scene and can set up shows in our own cities.

Band looking for rhythm/lead gutarist (bloomington )

we are looking for a guitar player that can play rhythm and lead. Would like you to be a strong driving rhythm guitarist - as well as a lead player who can be in the front and lay back too. If you play other instruments as well - that is great - because the other band mates play more that one instrument also. would like you to be dedicated - laid back - with reasonable party etiquette- willing to rehearse twice a week - during the week - until everything is tight - then we will be gigging on weekends and rehearsing once a week. It is a hard kind of music to describe. Rock and roll original project - sort of funky - sultry - sound. We are really interested in finding someone who is not in other bands or band. We are serious about this project and would like to focus on it. We are all in our twenties and thirties - please be at least 2. If you are interested - get in touch - and we can send you some tracks - or set up an audition. PEACE

ready to rock

Hey, Im a guitar player looking for a singer, bassist, and a drummer or any one or combo of those. I'm into a lot types of music but mostly gravitate towards metal and acid rock, I will do some other stuff but I will not do screamo and I fucking hate christian rock. Location isn't really an issue as long as you're not like the last people that answered and live all the way in bumfuck michigan, I'm willing to drive 30-45 min but the closer you live to 46032 the better. As far as age goes I would like people that are around 17-22, but a litte older/younger will do. I think thats about it, drop me a line if you're interested.

Oh, and if you're interested you can check out some of my stuff at trig.com, screen names aliveNAthought. Its not great, just fucking around mostly, but should give you some idea of what I'm about. And if you're not serious, don't bother.

We need a singer! (bloomington/Indy)

We are a newly formed band of experienced musicians that is looking for a singer. We are in playing shows in indy and bloomington mostly 1 to 2 times a month with a possibility of touring in the future. There is 2 things that we require: one is that you are good, and fit with our music, and secondly(and most importantly) that you have a sense of humor and are into just having a good time. the main idea that everyone shares in this band is that music is really fucking fun to write and perform and we'd like to keep it that way. so here is a link to here some of our demo tracks so you can decide whether or not you'd be into being in our group. www.myspace.com/needasinger .

New Band Seeking Bassist

We are a new group of 3 experienced musicians (all students) looking for a full-time bassist. Ability to sing backup vocals a plus, but not necessary. Our sound is definitely rock, but it's a little too soon to say exactly what kind as we're still starting out and honing our sound. So far, we've brought in influences from indie, prog, folk, and shoegaze, and we expect to explore a broad variety of styles.

If you're not the most technically proficient bassist out there, don't be shy about applying - we're interested in anyone with a strong foundational knowledge of music in general who's dedicated enough to commit to a serious musical project.

Bassist looking to start band (IU)

Hey everyone, Im a bassist/vocalist looking to start a band with an electro-rock ish style. Hopefully ranging from Keane to Cobra Starship to maybe some Pure Reason Revolution.

I mainly play bass and sing but can also play guitar and keys.

I'm looking for anyone who would be interested no matter what you play. Multi-intsrumentalists would be great just so we could have different combos for different songs allowing for lots of creative freedom. Also singing is definitely a plus.

Defitintely looking for guitarists, a drummer, keys, and singers, but it would be really cool to maybe have someone who can DJ, maybe some rapping, sampling, different percussion, ect. I'm pretty open and willing to experiment though am mostly looking for a rock sound with some electronics influences.

Bonus points to fellow IU students, preferably feshman or somphmores, though really anyone 18-22/23 would be great. Guys, girls, big, small, whatever, I don't care, I'm just looking for people who want to have fun while still being fairly serious. Hoping to eventually be gigging a several times a month. And who knows...maybe a tour or something.

seeking drummer (bloomington)

established musician. just moved here from california. seeking to start an experimental folk project with some like-minded individuals.
been touring, recording, and writing for the last ten years or so. really want to collaborate with some folks and put together a nice body of work.
ideally, i'd like to find a drummer who is an intuitive player and who is into the project and the music itself. for some reason i like the idea of a female drummer, but not important.
here is a link to some of my previous work, however not totally representative of the direction I'd like to go stylistically.

cheers.

Improv Jazz/Blues/Funk Band

Accomplished guitarist with touring experience looking to start an improv band. Similar in style to collaborations of John Scofield with Medeski Martin and Wood. Also, a little Buddy Guy/Hendrix/ Clapton style Blues jamming.
Need: bassist, pianist/b3, and drummer. Horns would be great too. Looking to play out, but also just jam and have a good time.

Searching for a female vocalist (Indiana)

Looking for a dedicated female vocalist to join up with a hard working, touring band.

Looking for Creative Minds (Bloomington)

I'm a 23 year old songwriter/musician looking for creative musicians, songwriters, singers, lyricists, beat makers, and even those that are proficient with recording software. Ideally I'd like to organize a group of 4 to 8 creative minds to meet up once a week for a couple hours to work on quality music projects as a whole. Discussions will require the ability to communicate effectively or at least listen and produce effectively. We will look to perform and create music live together in a recording environment, as well as meet up for discussion as to what type of parts we'd like each person to work on individually at home to bring to the table at the next meeting.

This is strictly a volunteer your free time opportunity. It is an idea I have that I plan to expand upon once I have the group created. So if you are looking at getting involved something interesting musically and feel like you're wasting your time with stereotypical cover bands, jamming that goes nowhere and flakes. Feel free to email me with some details as to what your abilities are, what your likes and dislikes of music are, as well as any sample work of what you are capable of, or use to be capable of (if you have any, not a big deal if you don't).

What I'm NOT looking for:

  • People with ridiculous egos.

  • Flakes = people that pretend to be serious, then are impossible to get a hold of or meet up with.

  • People that take themselves too seriously. I suppose that can go up in the ridiculous ego tag, but thought I'd add it anyway.

  • People that lack the ability to find humor in almost anything.

  • Mouth breathers...I don't feel like editing heavy breathing out of all of the recordings we do.

  • People that are looking to jump on a band wagon.

looking for eclectic bass player (bloomington)

Not a misspelling. We're looking for an upright or electric bass player who has a good ear for singing harmony, enjoys a very wide range of styles, and can read easy jazz standards chords.

We have been working musicians for 30+ years and play with other groups. This is a sideline thing in which we want to play a wider variety of music: 50s blues and torch ballads, 60s-80s rock, british invasion, country standards, southern rock, 40s texas swing, other styles - these are tunes with moderately complicated arrangements and altered chords.

We would start out with a setlist of simple tunes everyone can already cover. With that, we would expect to get a gig playing the boneyard stuff, while spending some rehearsal time on more challenging material. So our ideal bass player would be really good at "stump the band", and willing to commit some time to building an out-of-the-ordinary group.

You would be expected to go over these tunes at home and come to a reheasal once a month prepared to play somewhat challenging, non-mainstream tunes. We prefer a musician without other commitments, since our schedules are complicated enough. But we're interested in hearing from anyone who thinks they would like this variety - we have need of a fill-in bass player from time to time in other situations.

looking to start a band that sounds like the unholy offspring of fugazi, weezer, and the lawrence arms. if this sounds like you let me know.

Pro Drummer & Bassist needed for new band. (Bedford/Bloomington area.)

Looking for a good, solid, high-energy rhythm section, to join with 2 guitarist/vocalists to form new band, for weekend gigs.

Great timing, dynamics, & feel a must. Must also have a good ear & be able to learn quickly. We want to start working as soon as possible, with a minimum of rehearsing. Vocal ability would also be a big plus.

We are both in our 40's with decades of experience & would prefer other musicians with similar experience/ability. We will be playing a wide variety of musical styles including, but not limited to: rock, country, & blues. We are also open-minded to any other styles you might bring to the band so long as we can play it well & it pleases an audience.

An established rhythm section(bass & drums) would be great, but individual drummers & bassists also encouraged to call.

Thanx, Rich

looking for guitarist and bassist (bloomington, IN)

We're a band with up to 30 songs in our catalog. We've currently had some some members leave. We currently consist of a singer and a drummer. We're looking for up to two solid guitarists and a bass player. There exists a possibility of a development deal with a major label. Our style ranges from light rock to heavy metal. Our heaviness averages to the level of Alice in Chains.

Funk and Latin enthusiasts (Bloomington)

Looking to set up a jam session (or maybe band) for people into old-skool latin & funk. I'm a bongo hobbyist - need a good, knowledgable conga player to jam with. Drummer, bass and rhythm/lead guitarists that are into James Brown-esque funk, jazz and/or latin would also be very welcome. I have a garage for sessions.

HARDCORE PUNK/METAL/STONER ROCK BAND (bloomington, IN)

I wanna start a band. I've got about 4 or 5 tunes written. It's sorta fast paced, really hardcore/crustcore punk influenced, like Martyrdöd and From Ashes Rise... but with a sort of stoner rock groove to it, in vain of Boris, Goblin Cock, Queens Of The Stone Age, Black Sabbath... but as a whole the songs would probably be considered metal, just because of the drive in them.

I don't really think most people would even know some of these bands. I bet most people don't have any idea what kind of music I want to play. But if you like jammin' heavy tunes email me.

Drum lessons - Bloomington

Metal Vocalist Looking for band (Bloomington)

I am a 19 year old experienced metal vocalist looking for a band that is within driving distance (I would drive up to two hours away, depending on how serious that band is). I have been doing vocals for several years now, my influences include but are not limited to; Whitechapel, After the Burial, Between the Buried and me, and The faceless. I have a decent vocal range that is mainly based around my low mids, I cannot clean sing, but if it was required I would gladly learn. I am willing to play any kind of aggressive music. Hardcore, Deathcore, Thrash, Metalcore, and Screamo (I dont listen to alot of screamo but I would be willing to give it a shot) are just a few of the kinds of music I can do vocals for. I also have experience running a myspace, booking shows, and helping set up sound systems. Please send me an email, I will record vocal covers if needed.

Old Time Banjo Lessons ($20 hour)

Clawhammer (or old time) banjo is the oldest banjo style, predating bluegrass by over two hundred years. It has been traced all the way back to Senegalese technique on the precursor to the banjo, the Akonting. Blues Singer? (Bloomington)

Back in the day I played jazz and blues guitar for around 5 years. I can't play anymore, but I really miss jamming and making music. I thought I'd give singing the blues a shot. I'm not a great singer by any means, but I figure most bluesmen can't really sing, it's just about conveying a message with meaning. I work and go to IU, so it probably would just be a one night or two a week jamming thing. My favs include Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, B.B King, The White Stripes, SRV, and The Black Keys.

Violin/Keys player sought by band (Bloomington)

We are looking for a violin and or keys player for our band. We are a female fronted band - she plays rhythm guitar, flute and sings. We have lead guitar, harmonica, drums and bass. We will be recording over the next couple of weeks - so we would like you to be able to pick up music quickly - or put in the time to get it together quickly. We are all peaceful and laid back and would like you to be also.

Recent Press on Blane Fonda:
“Proudly bombastic and a little bit silly as well, Blane Fonda plays a glamy brand of alt-rock that's just shy of totally sincere, but no less entertaining for it.”
-Timeout Chicago, August 2009

"Wetzel's elastic voice, an instrument capable of inhabiting moody, introspective passages and soaring, stadium-ready choruses, proved a natural fit for Blane Fonda's new, swaggering style."
-Chicago Tribune , June 2009

Learn Irish Concertina (Bloomington)

As seen in the hands of anyone from pirate captains to world-class musicians to you!
Wonder what it is? Check out Google images for "Anglo Concertina"
Want to learn to play? Email me!

My name is Laura and I began concertina a few years ago at Eigse Mrs. Crotty (a concertina and fiddle festival) in Co. Clare Ireland. From then on I've been teaching myself as well as learning from top-notch concertinists (I've been one of the top students in the advanced camps I've been to). I know a number of dance tunes and some airs and would be great if you're looking for a basic introduction to the layout and fingering of concertinas as well as some chords as accompaniment.

No concertina? I have a beginning concertina that I would rent pretty cheap. I also have a higher grade concertina with negotiable renting. It's a perfect opportunity if you haven't uncovered one in the attic formerly belonging to your great Uncle Algie and you also don't want to run out and buy some random squeezebox you once saw a picture of.

It's loads of fun, quite a conversation piece, and could turn into a new passion!

$15 per half hour

Beginning to Early Intermediate Concertina
All ages welcome.
Sheet music provided.

I've been playing guitar for about 7 years all self taught and im still learning. im not gonna sit here and im a pro cuz im not... but im looking to see if anyones interested in starting up a local metal/deathcore band. my influences range from bring me the horizon and job for a cowboy to the fall of troy... id prefer to practice whatever we come up with 2 or 3 nights a week but im not going to stress it, im just bored and noticed there arent ANY bands like that around here so i think its time to add a little music diversity to this bluesy town. get back to if your semi serious...

Band looking for lead/rhythm gutiarist (Bloomington)

We are looking for someone to play lead/rhythm guitar. If you play other instruments - that's great. We will be recording in the next couple of weeks and intend to be gigging most weekends after the demo is done. Our current guitarist will happily record with us, but we would like to find someone asap - so that the recordings reflect the entire band that will be playing i.e. lead guitar. At the moment we practice two times a week - and would want you to be able to put that kind of time in. Once we are gigging more often - we may drop it to once a week. This is a female fronted band - with a harmonica player - bass - drums - and the chic plays flute - some keys and rhythm at times. We are looking for someone who can pick up things quite quickly - but not necessary if you are willing to put in the work. Our ages range from twenties - to thirties if that is relevant to you. It is sort of a sultry, bluesy - sometimes kind of funky original rock project. Please respond if you are interested and peaceful! We really like good natured people - with easy going attitudes - that's what we are like. Yet serious enough to make rehearsals and gigs - Cheers

Djembe/Hand-Percussionist Available (Bloomington/Anywhere)

I am a djembe player / hand percussionist (25, drug-free) looking to perform. I have been playing for over 4 years; in fact for the past year I traveled the United States and Asia with a traveling music ministry, doing concerts almost every night with the djembe as my main instrument. Fast songs, slow songs--it doesn't matter; I've learned to really manipulate the sound to make it fit the style. In my opinion, the djembe is the perfect percussion instrument for any accoustic act! So if you want to add depth to your accoustical sound, please email me; or if you just want to jam, let me know. I seriously just want to play again.

I also play several other instruments (guitar, banjo, saxophone, bass & contrabass clarinet, drum set), but would prefer putting my djembes to good use again--plus, the djembe is probably what I'm best at. After not playing it every day for the past couple of months, I miss it!

I've included some pictures of my djembe and I, along with some other folks. I'm the one towering over everyone else.

Guitar player looking to start gigging rock cover band (Bloomington, IN)

I am looking to start a project to cover some popular "top 40" type of songs. I am influenced by heavier rock, but also want to set personal tastes aside to play things a crowd would enjoy. It seems that lots of bands mix in some pretty obscure songs, and my goal (and I hope other members would feel the same way) would be to have a solid set list of good, recognizable songs that most people would enjoy. Anything from AC/DC and Ozzy, to Alice and Chains and Metallica, to Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots, to Matchbox 20 and Nickelback. A few of those bands I do not care for much, but they have songs that are popular, and that is the main idea. I also do not expect to sound exactly like the bands, but at least give a solid performance and representation of the songs. In fact, I like when bands put their own flavor and twists to cover tunes and would be open to doing so.

I am easy to get along with, respect others input and opinions, and want to have fun while staying focused. I ask that others be serious about the project and not reply if you think you will not have the time. I also ask that others do their homework on songs away from practice. This has been the downfall of many bands because it takes 3 months to get down 5 songs. I think this is fair to ask since it takes one person not learning songs, to make the rest of the band stalemate and suffer.

I am basically looking to start from scratch, needing a vocalist, drummer, bassist and another guitar player. If we had all these elements without another guitarist, we could at least start practicing and add one in later. This seems like a lot, and it is. However if I can just find a few people who are as motivated and optimistic about music as I am, we should be able to hit the ground running.

There are no time restraints or deadlines. I am not wanting to sell out staple center, but would like to start jamming ASAP, not just to learn songs, but because it is a blast playing with other people.

You can copy the "anonymous" email above this posting and send me a message and I can fill you in on more!

wanting an 80's sound with modern touches. (bloomington)

I enjoy bands and artists such as Robert Palmer, Living in a Box, Go West, Duran Duran, OMD, Wang Chung, ABC, Talking Heads, Greg Phillinganes

I'm not really interested in doing just an 80's throwback set (not interested in dayglo colors or slap bracelets) I really like the sound and would like to hone a set of carefully picked covers with the hope of coming up with originals based around the style.

I'm looking for creative people who are willing to play bass, keys, guitar, drums, sing. No pressure, I don't want to make money. I just want to play for the sake of it.

Email me anytime and we'll chat about it!

Cole Porter/Hank Williams-ish Cover band (Bloomington)

If you love covering old stuff, if you don't mind being silly, if green pears you like and back stairs you like- do contact me.
I love singing and playing old country and showtunes. That being said, I can't really play piano or guitar for much, but I can play a little. Also, my voice is no show stopper- I'm a quiet lady a bit like Kimya Dawson- but it's often in tune. I've written a handful of songs that people liked enough to request me to record, so I know I've got a little something to work with.
Wanna play?

Need Guitarist/Vocalist/Keys (Bloomington/Spencer)

Hi! Vocalist/Guitarist/Songwriter looks to join up with another vocalist/guitarist (or possibly keyboard player) to see what happens. I am in my 40's and have been playing for nearly 30 years. I am pretty decent on acoustic guitar, know some fingerpicking, and am a strong vocalist who also has a good knack with harmonies. I would be interested in performing live in local coffeehouses, bars, festivals, etc. for a little extra cash and the enjoyment of it. I am looking for someone who can flesh out a setlist with added guitar or keyboards, as well as be able to carry a lead vocal occasionally and be able to learn harmonies and backing vocals quickly. I want someone who is able to add lead fills to the music I do. Extra equipment is a plus.
I am easygoing, talented, and professional. I have been playing for a long time, have gigged a lot, and want someone who knows what it takes. My vocals are mostly a tenor with the range of Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Elton John. I can still get rough and gritty though. My repertoire is a lot from the "60's-'80's...I do Beatles, Bob Seger, America, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Elton, Billy Joel on into Marcy Playground and Semisonic, and many. many others. I have also written around 50 original tunes that run the gamut in style, and have recorded some.
If you are serious, male or female, and this sounds like something you may be interested in..shoot me a reply on here. I am not looking for any young kids who think they are out to get a record deal. :)

Rock cover band looking for male singer to co-front (Bloomington, IN)

We are a gigging rock cover band looking for a male singer to cover some of our heavier tunes. You would be splitting lead and backup vocals with our current singer. She takes care of most of the mellow tunes, and a few heavy tunes. We need someone mainly to cover bands like Metallica, Alice in Chains, Theory of a Deadman, ETC. The workload would just about be split dead even between the both of you. (Money would still be split evenly at gigs of course, we don't try to pull any of that stuff.)

We have already played some gigs this past summer, and have been taking a break to revamp the setlist and work in a few new members. We are ready to get back to it ASAP. We are an easy going group with a great variety to our setlist. From AC/DC and Pink Floyd, to Alice in Chains and Nickelback, and everything in between. Looking forward to hearing from ya!

Feel free to call Scott at 812-320-5226

Trying to find a piano or violin teacher willing to teach six year old boy on Star Wars, Indiana Jones & other music that he loves. He has one year of violin experience in Suzuki. Ideally in our home (south of the Y) or at Harmony school (2nd & Woodlawn). Rate negotiable, but thinking around $12 for a half hour.
