gloria jeans coffee (bloomington il)

Warning for my local friends & family! Do NOT buy anything from Gloria Jeans at Eastland Mall - not ever!! I have the inside scoop on the new owners & how they run the place from Jordan and another long time friend of our family who also worked there. Just put it this way - if you're buying their coffee drinks - cold, frozen or hot - you are risking your health! The new owners bought Gloria Jeans from the awesome previous owners in December, and started making changes of their own - AGAINST corporate policy and the Health Dept codes - in early January. The Health Dept and corporate have been notified, but it will take some time to either shut them down or get them to do things right!

They have also fired 2 employees - both of whom are filing for wrongful termination and have spoken with corporate) for speaking up and trying to get them to follow the rules and do the right thing. Several other employees have voluntarily quit because of all of this! BTW, they fired the manager for calling corporate and giving them a detailed list of all the things they do wrong in the store - but she only did that after they refused to follow the rules for weeks on end!!

Just a few examples of things they are doing wrong and could cause health issues:

Coffee beans that are set out for a week or longer for customers to pick up and smell, or whatever else, are put back into circulaton with the beans that are used to make the drinks.

When the machine that holds the milk based products is cleaned, they are supposed to throw out the old milk based products and replace with new, but they put the old stuff right back in.

Coffee machines and pots need to be cleaned out and brewed fresh every 90 minutes to avoid major bacteria build up, the new owners refuse to brew anything new until what is there is used up completely, which can sometimes be many hours.

A couple other random tidbits in terms of not getting a quality product anymore, is that coffee beans which are a week old are supposed to be thrown out & replaced with new beans according to corporate policy, but the new owners refuse to do this - so you are not getting a fresh product anymore!!! Employees have been instructed to put only about 1/4 of the whipped cream on top of drinks compared to before, and scrimping on many other things as well

There is A LOT more - but you get the iist of it!! Basically, if you go there, you're getting jipped on the value/quality of the products now PLUS you'd be ingesting drinks that are filled with all kinds of bacteria from many sources, and could make you very sick!!



PLEASE pass this on to everyone you know in Bloomington/Normal or anyone who may visit and shop at Eastland Mall. This is 100% true and coming straight from reliable, first hand sources who have worked there!! I've also been one of the people who personally called the Health Department.

I'm 7min from work, and if I need to, I'm 20-30min from Bloomington and Champaign, 20min from Clinton, and 45min from Decatur.

Also, living in a small town I don't have to worry as much about my daughter playing out side with fear of traffic or kidnappers.

And, my morgage, taxes, and utilities are all cheaper in a small town.

Whats with these people. I've been on layoff for some time now after 23 years at the same place. The feds are fighting over unemployment extentions and without that I'll be on the streets. My wife has been cut down to two days a week. I am pushing 60 yo and not in the best of health. I got a temp job with no insurance and had to go to the hospital for kidney problems. They drained all our savings and now I have these people harrassing me for the $3000 remainder. I explain my situation and the ask if I can put it on a credit card. WTF. The first question they asked was if I could send the payment in full. I tell them I am on the verge of loosing my $250 a week unemployment, can hardly afford food, absolutly zero unnecessary spending, had to choose between car payment or house payment. I have tried finding a job and once they find out my age thats that. I know they arent supposed to but thats the way it is.I have worked all my life in manufacturing. I have learning dissorders so school is out of the question. Any self esteem I had is gone. Depression is terrible. People I once had a relationship with are turning their back on the "poor" guy. Hey he's got no money to do anything ...sorry tuff luck. Then these people call and ask if I can pay it. Hell I cannot afford anything. I am getting further and further behind on everything and they want to know if they can add another payment to the bunch. These are medical bills. It's not loans for toys or anything like that. I know I owe the money but isnt taking every penny we had saved enough? I guess if I have another re occurance of kidney problems you people will be reading about me in the obituarys.

The other day my friend played a homemade CD for me by this 20 year old kid "Sir Francis". I listened to it, it SUCKED. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. All of the songs were rip-offs of other artist's music, just had some of the lyrics changed. What a joke. I couldn't believe this kid was trying to pass himself off as a rapper. I read of a man who stood up to speak at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came her birth and spoke the following date with tears. He said what mattered the most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time that she had spent alive on the earth.
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash.
What matters most is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.
So think about it long and hard, are there things you would like to change?
For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough to consider what is true and real, and try to understand the way other people feel.
Be less quick to anger and show appreciation more, and love the people in our lives like we've never loved them before.
Treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile, remembering this special dash might only last a while.
So when your eulogy is being read, with your life's actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say, about how you spent your dash?

I thought this might help you (Link hater) understand. I don't know who wrote it, but they saw the light and put it on paper for others to learn from. I wish you the best of luck in life and hope that you make the most of your dash.

I've been away for awhile, but once I got back, I saw I had catching up to do. Couple of points I'd make, and I'm also curious about something:
1) NOT spanking isn't solving anything, either. The truth is, every kid is different; whap this one, he goes off the deep end and shoots a roomful at 18; whap that one, he lives a model life and dies a saint; spend your time "understanding" Kid A, he becomes a credit to society; "understand" Kid B, he becomes a user of others and an idolator of Self. There really is no flatout, single answer, but by legislating personal morals and ethics, we provide blanket answers. This tends not to work--*In Any Capacity*, not just the rearing of children (how'd'ya like *that* one, I know it's "rear", not "raise"). In Amerika, unfortunately, we have to have one rule per everything--for everyone. My argument here would be that the domicile is sacrosanct, but say that to a caseworker who isn't just punching a clock, and you're called an AntiChrist (or, maybe an Anti-Margaret Sanger, I'm not sure).
2) You're right. I Don't Have Kids. I Would *Never* Have Kids. *I'd Rather Eat Broken Glass Than Have Kids*. Get mad, feel pity, disparage or condemn or lecture or reason, think me sad or pathetic as you will, it's just my choice (something this nation--and its populace--are supposed to support). My wife and I have an imaginary child, who we named "Ten Hours of Sleep a Night". I'm sure you think that's selfish; I'd argue that yes, it is, but there's nothing wrong with being selfish. All Humans Are Out For Themselves, at rock bottom...it really just depends on which topics of daily living you're discussing at the moment.
2a) If it makes you feel better, use a LINK (LINC?) card all you like. If I pay the State and the State pays You, I have NOT paid You. The Associative Property is mathematical, *not social*.
3) I used "spank" because "beat" has gotten a lot of bad press since the advent of Geraldo Rivera. My parents said "whip". "Discipline" sounds good, but it's usually just a sloughing off of responsibility by way of threatening until the willful one(s) figure out they're safe no matter what, then completely losing respect, control and sanity, in that order.

Okay, my Q: What is my Mrs. supposed to have "taught me, that matters most at the end of the day"? Is this some "I believe the feminists are our future, teach them well and let them bludgeon" thing? Just think that if everyone, no matter how mad or happy with this world they are, did something nice for someone else. That one little thing that the hadicapped lady did for you will stay with you for the rest of your life. Whenever you become wound up in your own troubles, you can resort to that thought and feeling to bring you back to reality. Hold the door for someone, help an elderly person out of a car, give your cart to the lady with 4 kids struggling to keep them out of your way, pay for someone else's dinner, tip over the amount, help a needy family in the neighborhood, take a meal next door, shovel your neighbors drive, cut their grass.... The smallest things you do can make a daily or a lifetime difference for someone else.

Leave the sponge out of it...

reading your post made me think of something that happened in my past. I've seen all the link ranters lately- and I do beleive most people on welfare DO NOT deserve it. While working at a local pizzeria, I made a delivery to a beautiful soul, handicapped, in a wheel chair, living alone- she answered the door with a huge smile and a five dollar tip ! I told her the check was made out too much- she explained the 5 was my tip. The total for the entire order was way under 10.00, ( it was like 10 years ago) I've NEVER been so humbled in my life. As to not insult her, I took the tip, , I was kinda taken back- didnt know what to do. I went back to my car and sat there and cried for like 10 minutes - I was blessed that day meeting her and I think of that anytime I'm feeling down. Someone with so much adversity compaired to what I think life is, it made me think ! There has to be a special place in heaven for that beautiful soul -- TALK ABOUT BEING HUMBLED !

Everyone thinks that they are better than the other person. I have been humbled more in the last 12 months than any other time in my life. I lost everthing. House, car, credit....all gone. I have been on top of the world with everything to having nothing. I feel sorry for all those people that have everything and need more because of greed and I feel for those that have never had anything, but want it all. i just wana say i love my linc card...i have no kids and they still gave me $200!!!!!! a month!!!!... i use it for steaks and chops and things like that.. i know it pisses you "working stiffs" off but i really and truly dont care!!! i also sign up for any "free" program that community action offers too..also all you dummies who believe in god are some of the best suckers!!! practically every church has a handout day with free food and clothes and soap and other crap, i have a list of every surrounding town and what day each church is doing their handout...i have so much free stuff and free food that i often times cook hamburgers for dogs and cats and sit it out back of my house... you see i learned a long time ago that if i worked under the table for a year i could file my taxes and fall into the "poverty" bracket. now i go to college for free!!! plus they always give me more money than school costs so there is usually around $2500 left over that they give me back... AND!!! i get EIC on my tax return...plus in the grand sceme of things i also get FREE HEALTH CARE!!!! they legally have to treat me.. i havnt paid a hospital bill in probably 10 yrs. after so long they just write it off as a loss, because i have no income they cant sue me lol. plus now there is the heathcare for those of us hit the hardest by the "economy" lol lol.. It's a comfortable place to be to say "if we just voted this way or that" we could somehow change things in government. Since it's tax time, let's make sure we are all well aware of what the Federal Income Tax is. 100 years ago, within a 12-month span our beloved Congress illegally ratified the income tax amendment, and at the same time legislated into existence the Federal Reserve Banking system. 100 years later all of the money collected from Federal Income Taxes is paid directly to the interest on the National Debt, owed of course to the Federal Banks. You think some millionaire bonuses to loser bank execs is bad? That's not even scratching the surface. All of your hard earned money paid into Federal Income Taxes is a bonus paid directly to the banks that own the Federal Reserve and through it own your azz and mine. Notice that the same word keeps coming up - Federal - and it is that system which has allowed foreign entities to control our government from the top down, basically dictating how we think feel act spend you name it. The Federal Government, that monstrous beauracrazy in the District of Columbia, has no constitutional authority to commit any of the crimes it commits against this nation or the myriad of nations worldwide. Representatives of the states that travel to DC do not represent the 50 republics, they represent the banks of Britain and their Corporations, and they represent a Federal system that sees you as a worker much as a plantation owner would. There is no compassion or conscience inherent in the Federal CorporNation, which will become more evident as our lives are turned upside down in the name of our "security".
The way our nation was designed to work is as 50 republics separate and united control domestic policy. There are no Federal Laws. There are only state laws that must follow only the outlines of the constitution and its amendments. There is no Federal Reserve Banking System, there is only national banks that have no power whatsoever to coin or control the money supply. There is no Federal Court system, as it is a court based on Admiralty Law that can legislate on the fly your azz into prison forever. There is no FBI, FEMA, FCC, FAA, F whatever as all of these tools of the bankers are created and run to control your money into someone else’s pocket. All Federal means is there is a pyramid scheme that you are forced to participate in and which you could never benefit from. Power to the states means no pyramid is possible. Power to the Feds means the same old Monarchy/Oligarchy/Dictatorship we all claim to be 'free' from is in fact set up perfectly to make sure you believe one thing while another is going on. It's a scam, people. It's illegal, people. It only exists because we voluntarily participate in it, and in our foggy existence cannot envision anything else possible. Isn't it obvious that Mr. Hope and Change hasn't done anything but what the bankers have told him to? Isn't it obvious that the disconnects we send to congress are only there to make themselves and a select few filthy stinking rich the citizens be damned? I just want to say to all the ignorant people out there that think link users are lazy liars that have multiple kids to get the link card are just that, ignorant! My husband and I have 5 children and work consistently and we pay taxes. We are on LINK! We have bills, insurance, rent and other expences just like all you out there that are complaining. We buy food at gas stations when we are in a hurry or hungry, just like all of you. We also go to ALDI to buy groceries. I can't believe the horrible things you dumb ass people say on here! Candy for children, not for the poor? Sick ass people! Taxes are not the only thing that pays for assistance, look it up. The state gets money for the program, not from taxes. I have paid taxes my whole life too. In fact my husband is self employed and pays more in then all of you, believe that! I want to say, I'm bringing this up for a very definite reason (you know who you be)...but, despite that, I'm actually interested in getting a head count, and some thoughts on this:

The Westboro Group is a hate church, you can google them if ya dunno. They do things like scream about at the funerals of soldiers who got iced in Iraq (or, they did; laws are changing on this, which probably violates freedom of assembly, but, then again, I had to buy the first season of Gilligan's Island on DVD, just so's I could watch the episodes with the Japanese sailor...).
The Patriot Guard Riders are a motorcycle group who, among other things, tag along after the Westboro group and, when the group is yelling at funerals, rev their engines like mad to drown them out (I have no idea if the Riders *all* have Harley's, but in a group, I guess it really wouldn't matter; it'd sure be an insane funeral...I think I'd rather bury my loved ones at sea...).

NOW!! I'm getting the hit that, and despite mamblypambly aphorisms from the Normal Town Council, this is a fairly conservative community (overall), but I think you're all conservative from a "Hell, I *work* for a living!", love-your-family-shoot-all-prowlers-and-mark-your-ballot-carefully kinda-way. Me, I'm more a Commander-Rockwell-was-NOT-wrong-about-*everything*-read-Imperium-and-get-yourself-an-education kinda-conservative....but, I'm also a traditionalist, and I balk--in a big way--about yelling like apoplectic banshees at funerals (unless it's just *me*, and I really *didn't personally like* the deceased, but, we won't get into that). Still, motorcycles revving above screams (and I assume bullhorns made their appearance fast after that), seems too much like "there was an old woman who swallowed a fly" and all that comes after it. I dont think that it is the valentines or the treats for school that piss people off. I think that it is more like the 85$worth or ribeyes and tiger shrimp or the fact that they will be buying booze and booze mizers, bags of ice for their beer or maybe it is the smokes. It seems to me that is you can buy cartons of smokes you sure could buy food. Or maybe its the dog food. These people cant feed their kids but yet the buy the biggest bags of dog food. I am so disgusted two days ago I seen a mom and a little girl that was about 5 at the store they got 3 bags of candy and a box of V-day cards and used a link card ! How dare they use my money to by such things If you cant afford it keep your kid home from school that day call in sick for work but by god dont let your child enjoy a festive event that is not made for the poor .I wanted to rip them cards out of that little girls hands and yell NOT FOR YOU you are poor and undeserving of such a treat.Im mad as hell and Them kids in their 2nd hand cloths and their new Vday treats make me sick!

My sister works at a doctors office.She is the one who puts you in your room and takes you temp and stuff.She is a single mother of 2 works full time and still lives BELOW the poverty level.She gets a link card and medical.Seems the hospitals are hard up for money and cant afford to pay the lowly staff or help them out with insurance or give them some sort of discount.They was also informed this christmas that they will not only not get Christmas bonus's this year but no one under a doctor will get a raise for at least 2 more years.YIPPEEE for them.For christmas they got a big fat pay freeze.
So when she is rushing off to work in the morning and has to stop at a gas station to get her children a donut and milk to put some thing in their tummies before they go to daycare try not to judge her.She works as hard as you do.If not harder.

NOW The "dad" is living it up.New house new car,new boat but pays $10.00 a month in child support YES thats per month.He lies about his income and no one cares.States too stupid to ask how he affords to go out of the country a few times a year makes payments on all his new stuff yet can only pay 10 bucks a month for his kids.
You want to blame someone for these people having to get on state aid look to the absent deadbeat parent they are the ones getting off scott free while the rest of us take care of their kids.

why is everyone complaining about what people use their link card for? they get the link card and you don't, get over it. it's irritating to see - oh, they got a steak with the link card - they got some chips with their link card - they are buying their kids snacks with the link card. do you or your family eat that stuff? you pay for yours and they don't - boo freaking hoo. and there are a lot of folks on the link card that do work. i get jealous some times too when i have to eat hot dogs for a few days in a row, but i don't cry over it, i look at it this way, i must be doing a lot better than them if they are on it and im not.
