Company Background
Ronsmap.com is a startup online company that is developing a next generation retail automotive solution that serves car dealers and individual buyers and sellers of vehicles. It employs technologically complex tools that include web crawling, semantic extraction of information, social media integration (facebook, myspace, etc), mobile device components (iPhone app), partner data integration (Kelly BB, carfax, home.net, Google Base, etc.), online payments integration (PayPal) and Google AdWords and Maps integration.
Core software development is done offshore in Eastern Europe(GMT+2). Some aspects of the applications are developed in the US with the majority of business development, sales and marketing operating out of California and Texas.
The company was privately funded in 2009.
Position Location
The position is located in downtown Boise Idaho, with an office address of 202 N 9th Street.
Position Description
The Program Manager will report to the founder of Ronsmap and later to a Software Engineering Manager. The position requires hands-on experience in implementing working systems (to launch, not prototype) and strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. We are looking for a generalist who has a rich set of competencies and is willing and capable of shifting focus rapidly and becoming an expert in any area. This will be the go-to player who pursues those difficult problems, which crop-up unexpectedly in every software project.
Specific responsibilities will include:
1. Daily maintenance of the To-Do lists for everyone involved in the project –we use an issue tracking system called JIRA.
2. Coordinating cross-dependencies between the geographically distributed contributors.
3. Coordinating deliverables to and from 3rd parties and subcontractors.
Position Requirements
1. The position requires a degree in computer science or engineering or equivalent experience managing software teams.
2. An understanding of social media and buy-in in its value is required.
3. A quantitative approach to measuring performance will be a key factor for the tenure of the successful candidate.
4. Past project and program management experience is welcomed, as long as all “black belts” and preconceptions are left at the door. While processes are important, we believe that one size does not fit all, and a few simple rules, existing tools and common sense is what is needed by a startup working on product.
Other Helpful Information
Our development philosophy is to create small, hands-on and narrowly focused teams, working in a short-cycle iterative development environment. We employ state-of-the art software development tools and technologies. We have a focus on process and immunity to NIH (not invented here).
We understand and acknowledge the difference between programmers and software engineers.
Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is required. We work extensively with outsourcers and teams who are 8 to 10 time zones removed. An ability to communicate effectively with a multi-cultural and multi-lingual staff, using a combination of email, skype and Wiki systems is critical. In this position you will be paired with a remote project manager.
Practical knowledge of unit test, source control and build-release processes would be helpful.
The position may require travel to Europe, including Eastern Europe, for up to 4 weeks per year.
Compensation and Benefits
1. Base Salary will be $75,000 per year, paid twice monthly.
2. The position is contract-to-hire, and will be a “1099” position for the first six months.
3. No additional benefits will be extended.
4. Upon converting to a full time exempt salaried position, medical coverage, a stock option and retirements plans (as they exist at that time) and all required by state and federal law benefits will be extended.

CTO / Technology Manager (Boise)
Established online service company is looking for a CTO / Technology Manager. This is a unique position requiring a breadth of proven technical and HR skills. The company provides services (content delivery, collaboration, etc.) that facilitate online learning within the higher education space. We have a leading reputation and extremely capable team. The company's CEO needs to focus on other areas of the company's growth and now requires a technology “partner” to help guide our ongoing product (i.e. technical) development.
Successful candidates will be comfortable working with the most current Internet technologies at levels that affect the design, management, and user experience of a web-based service. Great design and world-class customer service are critical competitive standards of this company. Our team is located throughout the US (and Europe) so part of the challenge is to add value without a lot of personal contact, in the face of the normal "new guy" hurdles. We manage as a relatively flat, self-motivated organization. If you can't contribute in a meaningful way, you won't be happy, and you'll be expected to lead by example. This is a long-term position with a company that is driven to leave a mark, both financially and in terms of better learning outcomes.
Compensation, of course, will be competitive, although not the sole reason you'll want to work for this company. We do interesting things, quickly, with a great team. You'll have an unusual amount of personal flexibility and upside as you prove your worth. Most of our employees view this as their end-game. If interested, please share your background, confirmed SALARY HISTORY, and personal/career objectives. No need to tailor your response just for us. If it's not already a fit in some way, it probably won't become one.
