Housing Wanted posters (Boone NC)

Just a few quick notes to those of you looking for housing in Boone for next semester:

--Beggars can't be choosers. It is irresponsible to have a pet in college for this exact reason: when you have to move, you find out that not everywhere takes things with fur that smell, and some people have allergies so you can't bring your pet into their home. When the Humane Society is flooded with the pets you had to get rid of in order to live somewhere, I hope they give you a dirty look and a guilt trip.

--This is BOONE. You're gonna have to define "walking distance". 'Cause you see, the thing about being hemmed in by mountains is that you can only expand to certain places, so there are only so many apartments close to campus, and everything is on a hill. And of those few that are within normally-defined "walking distance", how many do you think are up for sublet? And how do you feel about walking through a construction site? You don't like that? Well say goodbye completely to anything east of campus.

--Another thing about "walking distance" apartments: there's this thing called supply and demand, and demand is high but supply is low. Guess what that means? There is no such thing as a walking-distance apartment for less than $600/mo, and many of those do not include utilities. And King Street's been around for quite some time, so guess how old those apartments are... We have a perfectly good public transportation system. Stop being prissy and use it; you are NOT too good for the bus.

--When you are posting looking for housing, please remember that Boone is a conservative place. It matters to most realty companies (and, by the way, the roommates you will inherit) that tenants be of the same sex. So if you want someone to respond to you, tell us whether you've got a penis or a vagina. That matters.

--One last thought: it's fine to have standards. In fact, I encourage them. But come on, people, you are NOT going to get your dream apartment via sublet. It's four months. Find someplace livable and go to school. This is not rocket science or marriage. Please do not act like having a hiccup or imperfection is going to ruin your life. You need somewhere to live. Someone else has a place they need to sublet. Take it and chill out.

GIVE E-NEWS 5 MORE SPACES (Boone)

For those who call themselves locals in Boone, how many of you have actually spent any real money in Footsloggers (or even gone inside the store more than 3 times)? Now how about Espresso News (the best place to get coffee in town!)? For years I and hundreds of locals have been faithful patrons of E-news, and for years Footsloggers nazis have had their ever watchful eyes on their treasured parking spaces keeping us from our black gold of the daily brew. Footsloggers owns the parking lot, and without thought to the community of Boone have given only 5 spaces to E-news. Now they have gone so far as to paint fresh white lines in their lot to show off how many empty spots they own!!! If they were doing great business with people lined up at their doors (like their neighbor's) I would understand, but they are way overpriced and only appeal to a limited niche of people. GIVE E-NEWS 5 MORE SPACES.
