Could I borrow your shopvac for an afternoon? (Inman Sq, Cambridge)

Hi, I'd like to borrow a shopvac for cleaning up dry materials (dust, plaster) from the basement of the apartment I'm renting. Nothing harmful in there, and I'll shake out the filter when I'm done. I'll pay or trade a beer for your time. Thanks,
Andrew

"What Christmas Means To Me" (Quincy, MA)

Dinner Theatre is back in Quincy, MA! JM Productions is proud to present “What Christmas Means To Me” starring the cast of the smash musical hit “Superwoman … a Musical Revue” on December 3, 4 & 10, 2009 at 8:00pm. JM’s traditional holiday musical revue will be held at The Tirrell Room overlooking Blue Hills on Quarry Street in Quincy.

(Quincy, MA) ~ November 1, 2009 ~ This past spring five talented women presented “Superwoman … a Musical Revue” to sold out audiences. Over 650 patrons stood in line, snapped up tickets and made this revue one of JM Productions most successful musical productions.

Conceived and directed by John F. McDonald, Jr. “What Christmas Means to Me” began in 1998 and has played to over 10,000 guests! For our 2009 production Mr. Eric Larviree joins us as Music Director. Eric is the recipient of the Julie Wilson Award for Cabaret Excellence given by the Eugene O’Neill Cabaret Symposium. Eric has produced, directed and music-directed well over 300 musical theater and cabaret/jazz productions including productions of “New Ways to Dream- A Tribute to Musical Theater” starring Eric’s mentor and Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Betty Buckley and the, 40th Anniversary Celebration of The Music Man”, guest starring Academy Award winning and movie musical legend Shirley Jones.

“What Christmas Means to Me” is a funny, sentimental and reverend production. It’s a terrific way to approach the Christmas season! Rich in variety and consistently high quality music with a strong cast of female singers puts even Scrooge in the Christmas spirit. People who have seen the show come back year after year! They often say, “We set the tone” for the Christmas season! Our singers sing the traditional and not so traditional Christmas music! They also share funny and poignant monologues with their personal thoughts on the Christmas season. There is an audience sing a long and a moving moment in the show where the cast sings in only candle light! You do not want to miss sentimental favorites “Oh Holy Night” ~ “White Christmas” & “It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas” plus so many others which should get your toes tapping! You will be officially ready for Christmas after you see our musical revue.

Eric Larivee’s musical direction uses intricate harmonies and carefully chosen solo pieces that bring the audience along an entertaining musical journey. There won’t be a person in our audience who doesn’t relate in some way to this tremendous holiday production.

The Superwomen Divas performing in “What Christmas Means to Me” include:

Cheri Kelly (of Braintree, MA) a graduate of the Boston Conservatory with a BFA in musical theatre. Cheri has tapped her toes as Peggy Sawyer in both national and European tours of 42nd Street, and with Savion Glover in "The New Tap Generation - A Night of Tap" at the Apollo Theatre, the Strand Theatre and the Boston Opera House.

Kathy Teevens Fitzpatrick (of Quincy, MA) is a graduate of Suffolk University and received her RN from Laboure College. Kathy whose “superpowers” include a dynamite voice and sparkling smile, has starred locally in several JM productions including Nunsense, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and the widely popular, What Christmas Means to Me. She has performed her own and has guest starred in several cabaret shows in the Quincy area. Kathy is a long-standing performer at the Café on the Common at The Common Market in Quincy, MA.

Marybeth Kelly (of Braintree, MA) is a graduate of Fairfield University. She began her professional career when she was chosen to perform at Opryland USA, in The Country Christmas Show & on the General Jackson Showboat. She is also a Red Sox Nation fan favorite who has performed The National Anthem at Fenway Park several times. Locally, Marybeth honed her triple threat skills at the Common Market in West Quincy, where she was in the original cast of the Café singers and in various JM Productions including “Godspell”, “A Chorus Line” and playing Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors”.

Sue Gavin (of Halifax, MA) is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory for Musical Theater is a musical powerhouse! She has played classical piano since the age of five and has perfect pitch. Sue performed on the American Hawaii Cruise Line in several shows and has brought her directorial talents to Babson College, the Maynard and Danvers public school systems and the Concord Children’s Theatre. Sue has held leading and supporting roles in “Edwin Drood”, “Into the Woods”, “Carousel” and “My Fair Lady”.

Kirsten Hughes (of Quincy, MA) received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She began her career starring as “Ariel” in Disney’s Voyage of the Little Mermaid in Orlando, Florida. Eventually, she formed her own band, Velvet Krush, which hit the Boston music scene and became an instant success. Working with the band at night, and performing in award-winning, local and national radio commercials during the day gave her the opportunity to move back to New York where she appeared in the Off-Broadway comedy, Teen Thriller. In New York, she has sung on various CD’s, and performed in several New York City nightclubs.

Our production is perfect for office holiday gatherings, girl’s night out, Redhat functions or for date night! Tickets are $45 per person including tax & gratuity with a cash bar! Cocktails at 6pm, Dinner at 6:30, Show at 8pm ~ Show only seats are $30.00 (seating at 7:45pm) all sales are final, no refunds or exchanges. Lost Cell Phone (Savin Hill)

I some how managed to misplace my cell phone at breakfast today - totally sober. Maybe it fell out of my purse? I don't know.

I suspect I either lost it in McKenna's or somewhere on Savin Hill Ave near the restaurant/overpass.

It is a black phone and it flips open two ways... I think it is called the 'Alias'.

I would really appreciate your help! The economy has affected me, like it has most, and I really can't afford to replace it right now. :(

Thank you!!

Christmas as Usual

The commercials on television this year for Christmas 2009 have already started. They seem especially odd to me this year. It seems that it is business as usual. It's as if nothing has changed in this country from previous years. The ads ignore the horrible financial disaster that many Americans are going through. The ads ignore the ridiculously high unemployment rate in this country.

I wrote a blog post about it.

http://www.teddersrandomnotes.com/blog/2009/11/14/christmas-as-usual/

RE: Please help my family

Sorry but this post doesn't sound right to me. I know a family that is homeless and I don't believe the system works the way this person describes.

  1. 1 If you have been homeless for 2 months how do you still have 3 cats and 1 dog?

  1. 2 You said you can't go back into a shelter because it would devastate your 2 yo son. One would assume then the 2 months you were homeless were spent in a shelter. First of all shelters don't take pets. Secondly, you don't go into a shelter and get out in 2 months. The system takes a lot longer than that!

  1. 3You don't just "get" an apartment and the state offers to kick in first last and security. I know a family (mother and son) who has been living in a homeless shelter for over a year waiting to get funding from the state. Under the new department of transitional housing set up last summer (which was supposed to steamline services and aid for the homeless but instead has only created a backlog of people waiting of housing aid as this new department gets its act together) when and if you get aid its a 75-25 split. The person getting assistance kicks in 25% and the state 75% for 1 year. There is also a limit on how much the apartment can cost. For example, for a 2 bedrooms apartment in the Boston area, this department has decided on an $1100 per month limit (ya try and find one for that) which the voucher program will pay 75% of up to $12000 a year (that would probably be for 3 bedrooms or more). Hopefully at the end of that year you are allowed to transition into a more permanent housing aid program. This family has been on this list as well as the established Metropolition Housing Assistance program "waiting" for their turn for housing assistance while the state keeps promising money then backing out as the budget problems increase.

So the fact that this person was homeless for 2 months (with all those pets) and then just walked into an apartment with a promise from the state for first, last and security (with a working father in the picture) just doesn't add up.

Like so many postings on here asking for help, sometimes you have to read between the lines. If something doesn't sound right it's probably not. This sounds like one of them. Be smart and donate to legimate charities and doen't let someone with a "sad story" scam you out of your hard earned money.

Facebook Page Impersonation Please Help Delete Page

I am having problem with a individual on Facebook and could use the publics help getting a page that he created deleted. If anyone has any other ideas please contact me. It seems you can post anything on Facebook and they don't seem to care. Without getting into all the details. This person has been contacting my friends signing them up on this page using my pictures pretending to be me and signing my friends up and talking all this crap about me and now I have all my friends mad at me. To sum it up the guy is a psycho he won't stop emailing me, shows up in public where he knows I will be, posting lies on the Internet about me. He even kept calling my boss up and at and lead me to getting fired from my job. I know this because my boss told me I was being fired because of the repeated calls. I have my own page that I created but this person is now impersonating me and I would like his page taken down. What I need is for you to click on the link down below and click on the report page button. After you do that I believe you can select from a list of options such as inappropriate content, fake page, mis categorized. Choose one of those options and you could fill in anything you want what ever will get him deleted. If you have any questions please contact me and thanks for the help.

reunion location ideas (North of Boston)

I am looking for some inexpensive ideas to hold my 20th class reunion. With the way the economy is, we would like to keep the ticket cost down for a bigger turnout. We would like a function hall that serves food, nothing fancy even just appetizers. It would be nice if it were located in or next to a hotel/motel. We have people coming in from out of town and most of us will be drinking. We would like for them to be safe and not have to drive :)
Am looking for a place North of Boston and located right off the highway(route 1, 128, or 93)

Thanks for any input.

help? (Boston)

Hi. I live in the South End. Someone crashed into my car, probably last night or at least sometime this week (I was not around) and there is a lot of damage to my car. I am not sure if there were surveillance cameras around but we are hoping to have a look at them if there is footage. However, if you know of a someone who recently came home with car damage, please email me. I didn't do anything wrong. But I don't think what this person did to my car was right. Please help me?

Thanks.

And yes I have insurance but I am waiting to see who comes forward first.

Thanks for helping.

Please help my family (northshore)

my family and I have been homeless for 2 months i have a two year old son, 3 cats, and 1 dog. I finally found an apartment, the state told me thy would pay for first last security for me to move in. I have been living in my apartment for ince november first, yesterday i get a phone call saying that they are unable to help me now. so now i might have to move out of my new apartment because i do not have the funds to pay for first last and security. I am in school full time for Criminal Justice and my husband does work but unfortunately it is not enough to pay for first last security to this apartment. I have asked all of my family and friend for help, but like everyone else in this world they are hurting and cannot help me, so this i my last resort. I do not believe in asking other people for money because people work hard for what they have, but i am desperate. I cannot go into a shelter with my son, he is already devistated because we did not have a stable place to stay for two months. So please if there is anyone out there that could help me i will be forever greatful, again i feel so embarrassed to ask but i really need help. I have to come up with $1400 by December first to stay here. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone that has takin the time to read this

christmas time (south shore)

Hello first, thanks for even reading. I am a single mom of 3 and I am a part-time student awaiting disability. I am a good mom, i swallow my pride and ask for scholarships so my kids can play sports and i volunteer whenever i am able to show my appreciation. I was divorced in 08 and my ex has since paid 0 in child support he was ordered to pay only 150 a week even though he owns a business and a 650,000 house. he claimed he was filing bankruptcy and being foreclosed on , neither of which has happened.and he really ruined my credit i was a stay at home mom for 8 years. anyhow, at this point the kids and i live in subsidized housing for which i am grateful exists and we live off of 691 dollars each month which is barely enough but we make it somehow. my vehicle has a blown head gasket (i think) and transmission problems. i put a ton of coolant in it just to do my shopping and necessary driving every week, a friend told me it was junk. I am a high anxiety person and i have depression but i have been plugging along. but, this past week i got my financial aid refund from my college and i was expecting it to be roughly 450. instead it was 36 dollars. at this point all of my bills are up to date, as i keep a close eye on that, but, that was my christmas money. i am not sure what even happened. something about that grant ran out before they got to mine . but i am looking for help this holiday season in any form you may feel comfortable..the kids really need a some what normal christmas (i am not asking for money but i could give you a little santa list)and possibly i could use some legal advice as i am trying to take my ex to court for contempt, for non payment of bills he owes on my credit report and for a re evaluation of child support. -this was based on no paper work at all , no tax returns or business records (he is a contractor and claims he doesnt work-you know the type) the kids (thankfully) do not spend time with him and havent since 07 since he is pretty dangerous and i have a 51a -ughh...
reading this back to myself, it looks pretty pitiful ,and i cant believe it has come down to this, anyhow, it has, i guess and so if anyone feels like they could help in anyway we would very much appreciate it. thanks again --

Looking for activity that could handle 20-100 volunteers at once (Boston Metro)

My name is Danny and my goal is to start to shift the way gay people are perceived by the wider society. I feel that sometimes the gay community gives off the impression of being a group that is self-centered, promiscuous, and not always caring about people outside of our community. I am not saying it is the truth as I know many gay people who do great volunteerism work and who have been very effective at giving back to society. However, I feel that many of us (myself included) have become caught up in the partying atmosphere of our community without much thought for the wider implications of our actions. I think that the impression we give off to the wider society correlates directly with the kinds of rights others are willing to extend to us. My idea is to start a monthly event where gay people (and our friends) go out into the communities in which we live and do something amazing. In doing this, I am hoping to create the impression that gay people really do care about improving the lives of others (for both people inside and outside our community).

I am thinking that it would be fun to pick a different venue each month to participate at. Some of the ideas that my friends have brought up are the following:

1) Repainting a school (and even getting the kids in the school involved so to create a friendly and contributing atmosphere)

2) Preparing a meal, play games, and host a talent show at a senior home

3) Cleaning up a park, a beach, or some other public space

4) Volunteering with another organization such as Habitat for Humanity

The name I would like to use for these events is "Pride in Giving" which I think has a nice, positive ring to it. I am hoping to get as many as my friends and their friends involved as possible. I am thinking that if people feel inspired and excited enough by the first project, we could get as many as 100 people involved (or maybe more??). The target date I have for the first day would be February 6th (Saturday).

The reason for my post is to see if anyone out there has some ideas of possible projects that can handle lots of volunteers at one time and that will really make a difference for others. For example, does anyone know of a school that could use a repainting? Or a senior home that would be receptive to my idea? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Kind regards,

Danny

Is Everyone on Craigslist this bitchy? (North Shore)

So this guy, doggone24@live.com, emailed me about a little dumbass thing I posted somewhere on Craigslist http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/pol/1473886848.html

Him : do every one a favor and follow that thought.
http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/pol/1473886848.html

Me:bahahahaha you actually responded? You need to get off Craigslist and head over to FMylife because your life is fucked!

Him:you are a sick little individual. you should grow up. maybe then you could hold an adult conversation.

Me:sick individual maybe, little no. Define grow up? Do you want me to become a stiff in a hard collar and tight tie? If so, I'll pass and stay in my own acceptable way, which will probably keep my life far more interesting than your dull craigslist existence could ever really grasp.

Him: you really are a sick little boy. spewing anger and hatred at anybody that you communicate with. and staying where ever it is that you are is probably a good thing for everybody. I find it funny that you presume to know so much about everybody on CL. that must make you an expert in CL world.

Me: You are very creative with your insults. You mixed it up from a sick little individual to sick little boy. Great work! I am sure the numerous English teachers you have had in your life would be very proud. Why not use jackanapes, punk, brat, or whippersnapper might work judging on your age. I suggest that you go and take your metamucil, old man.

Him: Your hate spewing insults reveal you as mentally unstable. your suggestions for insults reveal a low IQ and immeasurable insecurity. I've had conversations of higher quality with fourth graders. I imagine you use Craigs list as a way to define people you dissagree with and pummle with your hatred. maybe you should hire a home health aid to assist with changing your catheter and cleaning your wheel chair. I know it must be difficult for you to interact with people on a face to face basis because you like to hide behind your monitor and pretend you have something important to say. I am sure your next attack will be spelling errors.

Me: My IQ is 142 thank you. Why are you talking to 4th graders? I thought you had a 100 yard ban from all grade schools, day cares and playgrounds. I am mentally unstable? You are the one raging over the internet about a hundread word bullshit thing that I wrote while bored. Jesus guy, you need a reality check and live within your means of understanding. If you really care that much about what people say on craigslist, there just might be something wrong with you.

Him: you really are a sick angry little turd. I'm sure your parents must be very proud of you. judging by your idiotic sophmoric insults I would say you must be about 12 or 13 years old. I hope your parents catch you acting the way you do.

Me: Yeah, not quite, good try though. I am not the angry one my friend, I am enjoying this immensely. You are such a little whinning bitch, I cant believe it. Did you just get back from the beach, because the sand in your vagina is making you very enraged. Or maybe your dad decided that you needed to stop sucking his cock because you are like what between 24 and 29? What kind of cumbersome object did you have shoved into your rectum freshmen year that you never had removed?

Him: wow! you are so childish! no wonder no one will talk to you. you have such command of the english language. no go find some one else you think you can bully around. just have some one-if you have any friends which I doubt-read these e-mails and decide who is the angry troubled individual. I doubt you will. don't bother me any more-I'm done with you.

Me: O you're done? And I did show my friends and they are laughing hysterically at the fact how easy it is to push your buttons. You are quite pathetic if you let someone as "childish" as me bother you so much. It is the best proof I have seen at how worthless most people have become. They do not even begin to comprehend there are greater things in this world than the internet, multimedia entertainment and all the social issues that people create for themselves and others to make themselves important. The entire idea of society is to make little worms like you feel like you have some meaning with having to search for it yourself. Thank you though, I had a lot of laughs. This was fun, we should do this again sometime!

The biggest reason we have found is that they didn't have anyone to dive with after the class. What we provide is a dive buddy for life pogram. We will be adding a forum to our site, www.baystatescubaschool.com, where we will post when and where we are diving. We will offer dives for beginners through advanced divers. We are not a dive shop, but a dive school, so you will not have to deal with pressure from sales people. We are committed to providing the best education for divers. We have partnered with a dive equipment sales person that can provide you with the equipment you need. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail. Please check our site throughout the Winter as we will be continually updating it. You can also check us out on Facebook.

Need office-type setting for Sunday film shoot (Boston/Wakefield/Woburn/Stoneam, etc.)

Hey, all!

Currently producing a comedic short film with a group of peers for a college BFA program. We're shooting today and tomorrow (Saturday) in Wakefield, but are looking for an office space for the last day of shooting, Sunday (11/22). The location can be in Boston, Wakefield, Woburn, Stoneam, or any other areas that are relatively close by.

The sequence would take between 1-2 hours to shoot and would involve a woman waking up from a dream at a desk only to find that she is still dreaming.

We've got a hefty amount of equipment, but a fast-working crew that can set it up and break it down with relative ease.

If you're looking to help contribute to the arts, we'd very much appreciate the consideration -- it would mean quite a bit to our cast and crew.

Cheers!
