Vintage 1930's CATHOLIC CROSS - Wall Art - Christian Art (Worcester - Natick - Newton - Woburn) $60

Great Drama to this art & Frame Combination - Antique and Beautiful.

Celebrate Christ and the cross --this unique wall-hanging art piece was made by an extremely detailed and tedious-looking attachment of a series of perforated paper strips to a (very black) backer board. The French term, "Collage," denotes an art piece made by attaching paper, or other objects, to a canvas. In this case the strips are sequentially smaller in each upper layer giving a 'pyramidial' effect. This is "Bas Relief" but not a true sculpture. The artist is unknown, the piece is NOT signed. Measuring about 18.5" wide by 21" tall (including the gilded frame), the back is planked wood, indicative of a rather old, vintage mounting and framing job. It is possible the original art is MUCH older, and was originally mounted on a different back board, and only mated with this mounting at the time of this framing (estimated to be in the 1930's).
