SINGER and BASS needed for a kickass cover band (Natick)

Check out our new demo - please take the time to listen to each song entirely to get a good scope.
Nightrain - New England's premier tribute to Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver
We also do some Zeppelin for an unexpected twist.
We are looking for a singer not to "fake" an Axl voice, but to sing in their own voice - works better.
Please have your own PA or be in a position to buy a decent one as we play LOUD.
We are also looking for a bass player - Duff, one of the best bass players of all time.
Please have a day job to be able to afford studio rent, and commitment is a MUST!
Pro gear and pro attitude - no egos please.
We dress the part, wigs and leather for the real look.
You can reply with your number for a quick response.

Want a DVD of your show or rehearsal?
Price includes travel, recoding your show, transfer to DVD, and priority mailing.
All of this is done the day after the show. Extremely speedy service.
I can do a tripod straight shot or hand held for close ups.
I use a HI FI digital camcorder which produces excellent audio and video footage.
I can also email or make a CD of still pics, mp3's, and avi's (all for no extra charge) - great for your website.
In this crazy economy we all struggle financially so I charge a nominal flat fee of just $200.00 - everything included.
I'm from the metro west area so if the commute is long distance price may be more.
Samples upon request of major bands I filmed.

experienced singer available (cambridge)

Hey,
I'm a singer in town looking for a band to play with.I can sing rock and pop pretty well and acoustic music.I have no current recordings -i can send you an older one or just sing over the phone(which is better i think)or the best option is to come down and jam.I'm no looking to travel outside of Boston too far.I'm in my late 20's and have played around new england in various bands.

singer/songwriter looking for guitarist/backup singer (Newton/Watertown)

Hello wonderfully talented Bostonites,

I've got an awesome band. We have a lot of fun with a lot of original songs. Right now we're a trio, and we've just gotten to the point where we feel like a guitar just has to be a part of our set. Feel free to check out myspace.com/crystaljoymusic and see what you think. I'm looking for someone who wants to have fun with this, but can take it seriously. I've got an EP coming out shortly, and want to play out as much as possible once its done. Right now we're practicing once a week, and have a room in Watertown that we're renting. We can use it as often as we want.

TWO THINGS WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

I'd love to hear a diverse GUITAR player who can sit back into a song and layer things like crazy, and then come in with some good lead stuff too.

I'd also like to hear a great SINGER who has a good ear for harmonies and can be creative with how they approach them. Some of the songs have some tight harmonies, and others could use whole parts of someone else's voice.

If you're the same person, I love you already.... but no pressure. ;)

So respond!!! Let me know if this sounds like something you're interested in.

myspace.com/crystaljoymusic

Do it. You know you want to.

Production/Mixing: Darkwave * Shoegaze * Dreampop * Ethereal * Ambient (Boston / NYC / around)

Hello. I'm a Producer, Arranger, Recording and Mix Engineer offering skilled services for musicians, bands, and projects. I've worked extensively with a wide range of clients and styles from low budget lo-fi indie through folk, roots, celt and world folk, punk, hard rock and metal, trip hop, electro and techno, dance music, smart pop, psych, glam, theatrical and operatic rock, soul, classical, and major-label-flavored big budget slick pop...

But out of that, it's the "mystery and depth" areas around and related to darkwave, shoegaze, dreampop, ethereal, ambient, goth, and art rock that I'm often sought out for. I have a particular fondness and deft touch for textural, moody, sensual, and atmospheric music.

25 years experience as a full time musician, producer and engineer, composer, performer, instructor. Too many credits to list, but some highlights pertinent here: I was half of The Moors (Castle von Buhler, Hyperium, Forest of the Fae / Dark Symphonies) and also produced and engineered the highly acclaimed album, which is considered a classic and milestone in the darkwave/celt/pagan genre. Album is still selling steadily 10+ years later, still has an international cult following. Produced the Steamy Bohemians CD, which while not very gothy is certainly arty, smarty, and subversive. They get much buzz and love. Have been working as a steady collaborator/composer/producer for a very long time with Garvy J (Elevator Drops, solo, Rentals, Adam Green, Tracy Bonham etc.). Co-wrote, arranged, produced, pixie dusted a large amount on his upcoming solo album. Plus the long running ambient/brainwave/sacred math/sacred sound/experimental project we roll. Led the band Valhalla Kittens, theatrical art glam to the max. On and off, I play fretless guitars and textures and loops for Sarah Rabdau's live show, and supplied highly regarded textural fretless guitar tracks on her new album. Provided spooky textures, effects treatments, additional production, and Mastering for Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toy's most recent releases, which is some of the best new post-darkwave to come out of Boston in recent times. Even did a little work with Devo a few months back, also fun.

Great toolkit on hand ready to go. All the computer audio based goodies you'd need (cool plugs galore, pro tools etc., great converters), plus more importantly a great hand picked selection of vintage/classic rack hardware delays, reverbs, atmospheric effects, tape delays, spring reverbs, vintage EQ, compression, analog synths. Dripping with mystery vibe in a way that no plugins can touch, seriously. British board, many tape machines, mixing can be hybrid, ITB, OTB, to tape, whatever you need.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Acoustic jam, Sunday, November 22, 2:00pm… (Boston area)

The jam at Jamaica Pond is moving indoors for the winter. That’s right, those beautiful Sunday afternoons by the pond are now history, but don’t despair. The jam will be indoors until the spring, at Gerard’s Restaurant, 772 Adams Street, Dorchester. All skill levels welcome. This is a jam, not a performance or open mike, so leave your stage anxieties at home. This is strictly for fun. Gerard’s serves a full menu, beer and wine, and you can play music and still catch up on the NFL on Gerard’s large TV’s. Bring your acoustic instrument and your music. Fiddlers needed. jblesq1@gmail.com

The Music at the End of the World (Charlestown)

We're wrapping up booking December in the next few weeks, and are actively booking January and February. Please pop us an email with a myspace and a *short* description of your band. We're pretty much open to anything: bands, DJs, etc.

Attention: We do not book metal bands from New Hampshire. Just please stop flooding my inbox with messages like HARD ROCK BAND LOOKIN TO GET NOTICED.

We love booking local Boston/Somerville/Cambridge/Charlestown acts, especially Somerville and Charlestown.

We look forward to hearing from you... but please... I beg of you... DO NOT CALL THE BAR. Odds are 90 to 1 that the bartender is a) busy b) doesn't know who/what you're talking about and c) doesn't have the schedule in front of him/her. That's because it's in my pocket. But even if you get me on the phone, I won't be able to do anything because I can't remember anything without writing it down. Digitally. And, remember: I'm certainly a) busy and probably b) don't know who/what you're talking about or d) I have a free moment and I'd rather smoke and stare at the Beijing Taste across the street. It's nearly 2010. We all use email.

seeking collaborators - bass/guitar/keys/any - think Beck/Floyd/Dylan (Boston)

Looking for collaborators to play live, write and record songs. Already have about 2.5 hours worth of originals, all of which we've played out at venues throughout the northeast and beyond. We get comparisons ranging from Dylan, Pink Floyd and Beck, although comparisons don't work too well. The vibe is generally minimal, surreal, with space, but still grounded and natural (organic trumpet, simple guitar sounds, etc).

We are currently dedicated lead vox/guitars, trumpet/back vox... with drums and bass that can play a few times a month and know all of the material. Rehearsals will generally be without the rhythm section for now, or at least until the rhythm section finds some more free time. So the focus right now is playing with new people, working on parts and new material, and generally preparing for local gigs.
Check www.myspace.com/scienceisaband to hear some of the songs we're playing. We have rehearsal space, fans, are nice guys, flexible, and are serious about playing well and playing out. We even have charts for those of you who read them (although not necessary).
We're the former songwriter and trumpeter from The Gulf - www.myspace.com/thegulf and we're looking to make music that's equally as intense.. but have fun doing it.

Seeking drummer for duo or band ( Brighton)

Looking for a collaborator for a new project. I play a lot of different instruments but I was thinking this should be guitar (me)/drums (you). Sort of a White Stripes or Black Keys setup (not necessarilly that material, but that setup). I'd like a full band eventually, but I think we could start as a duo and grow it from there.

I play in a couple of local bands that I enjoy but I don't get too much creative input, and I also jam pretty regularly with a couple of my buddies which is fun, but it's limited in range of material and they don't seem to have any ambition to expand outside of the covers we already do or to play out once in a while.

Material is kind of all over the map, I have a good stock of originals, some cool covers, and some decent recordings. I have a rehearsal/recording space in Brighton with drums and PA and contacts for gigs when we get to that point.

Some groups and artists I like, if you can get any idea of directions I'm interested in going with this:
The Band, The Replacements, Neil Young, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Wilco, Big Star, The Black Keys, Elvis Costello, Gram Parsons, Uncle Tupelo, Booker T and the MGs, The Meters, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dinosaur Jr, The Flaming Lips, Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Email me for recordings and to discuss further. Thanks.

Lead Singer Looking for a Band!

I'm very dedicated, motivated, and talented. I have some experience and prefer rock, pop punk, pop rock music...not limited to only those genres though (I'm pretty flexible/versitle).
Please be in the age range of 18-25ish since I am as well.
Send me a message if you'd be interested in having me possibly tryout for your band!

Re Re: Trial by fire (fools) ((Loserville))

My 2 cents: I also saw the original ad and couldn't believe that somebody would have the balls to actually name another band and person within the band to publicly harass. If I were Captured, I'd consider legal action or maybe some guys from the North End. I'm a keyboard player and wouldn't touch these guys just on their ad alone. If they are stupid enough to place an ad like that could you imagine actually working with them? I found their myspace page and they do have big balls cause they suck. I wonder if they are mentally challenged adults? Either way these fools need to disappear. And we all know they will if real musicians stay away from them.

I agree keyboard players beware

RE: ALL BANDS MUST READ! (Everywhere)

I posted this earlier this week and I saw some people commented about it in a positive way. Take one more step and post this on another message board or anywhere bands go online. The most we post this the better we are to make people aware of how awful this company is. I got contacted by there rep recently who told me that I know nothing about the music business and that he can see why I haven't done much with my band. I came back to him with facts of why he is wrong only to get a response back from him that said he would rather not respond to me with proof of how he has helped bands because it's not worth his time. Someone pointed out how sonicbids is bad too. This is absolutely true. I am good friends with a lot of promoters who have told me that when they see a band has a sonicbids account, they do not take it seriously at all.

Another thing I forgot about Illumina to point out, they say the cd gets sent to labels and stations. Yes this is true but I worked in radio for a long time and will tell you this. When we received those comps from them, we threw them out. It's literally a joke that gets tossed right when it gets to radio. No DJ is going to listen to 20 tracks to find a good one to play and no label will listen to find a good track to sign a new band.

If we are ever going to change anything then we need to be on the same page and not give in. You are in a band, you create something special. Don’t let yourself be taking advantage of. If you are asked to Pay-to-play then please walk away.

I am sure most of you being local band have heard of things such as Emergenza and Illumina Records. If you ever get approached by one of these company just turn away. Lets talk about Emergenza. This is a scam. They send you a myspace message telling you how great your song is and how you would be a great fit for their show. They will then set up a meeting with you via e-mail, phone or in person. They present to you their “festival” you accept and everything is good. Wrong.
Lets back up. Ok so they did not hear your song. Instead Emergenza will rent out a venue. Lets for example say Upstairs Middle East (which at capacity is around 200 I believe). So they look and see who is on myspace in Massachusetts as a band. They then send out a template message. This message has all the words they want you hear and its just copy and paste on to the next band. They did not take the time to see if you band is broken up, big, small or active. They did not take the time to see if your music is something they are interested in at all.
Once you reply and talk to them, they show you how they have corporate sponsors they will let you use their gear. Ok they are not letting you they are making you use it. No set up time means more bands can play in one night. And why would they want more bands? Because YOU need to pay to play! At the time when I met with the a couple years ago I think it was $100 bucks to sign up. I did not sign up I simply met with them to see how they worked. So lets recap for a second and think about this. Ok Emergenza rents out upstairs middle east lets say for 5 days. Each day has 7 bands. So they off the bat made 700 bucks from sign up fees. The corporate sponsors provide the gear so thats not an issue. So in 5 days they made $3500 off of fees. You then get 50 to 100 tickets that you MUST sell. I think you even pay a small price for the tickets or get hit with a fee if you don’t sell them all. I could be wrong about that but you play according to how many tickets you sell. The most goes last. The least goes first. Tickets are about $15-20. I think 15 in advance and 20 at the door. Ok this doesn’t make any sense. If every band sold 50 tickets thats 350 tickets. At a club capacity of 200. So there is no way to sell all the tickets. They collect more money of unsold tickets from the bands. They also take all the door money because no band gets paid. After each band plays they ask the crowd to vote on the band. The vote is done by everyone raising there hands and someone on the stage counts all the raised hands. The most hands at the end of the night moves on to the next round which is sometime later at a bigger venue I believe. But how is this fair? What if you have 2 punk bands, one rock, one folk, one rap. Then there is a skewed voting process. One band could be awful but have a lot of friends to vote. This goes on until one band is chosen and then supposedly is brought to Europe to play a festival. They do this every year, maybe even a couple times a year. Do not let these people take advantage of you. Venue’s like the Middle East, TT the bears, Great Scott, All Asia are all great venue that will help you get a show if you just send in your music and ask. If not then set something up yourself. You will get paid to play and no money should come out of your pocket to play. Do it yourself.
Illumina records says that they started a label for drunk driving awareness after their owner saw a girl die from drunk driving. They make comps that are distributed to radio and labels for promo. This is just another scam.
This one is great. Lets make a comp. We will put 20 bands on one CD. We make all the artwork and press the CD ourselves. How do we get bands? Lets make a comp for all different areas of the US. For each area we will search myspace and ask bands to participate. But searching all those pages and filtering can take a long time. Lets “hire” people to do it for us. What Illumina does is rent a office in Beverly, MA. They have cubicles setup with employees. These are not employees but myspace slaves. Everyday you are assigned 2 or 3 letters. Example. Mark is assigned to find Bands in letters A-B that are around the San Francisco Area for the Bay Area Rockers Comp. Now Mark has a template to send out to bands as well which junk. It says how much the band rules and should not miss out on this opportunity to participate. They will get so much recognition from the CD and it’s a good cause. They then set up a meeting as well via phone. Mark has been told he needs to use his own cell number as well. How much does Mark get paid? Mark will receive a $50 commission check for every band they he gets to sign up. How much is it to sign up to be on this shitty comp? around $800.00 or more. This means that everyone working in this office could work all day and all week and only get one band. They made $80 bucks. They are pretty much working for free. I know this because I was there for 3 days before I said fuck it. They will make off of one comp 16,000 dollars in fees. They then charge the bands if they want some copies for themselves to sell at shows. The artwork looks like shit and the tracks are not mixed. Lets talk about the worst thing I saw that made me leave. One of the guys running the place called us all into the office. A “employee” has a lead on a kid who wants to be on the CD (this one happens to be a hip-hop version). The catch is this kid has a friend who died in a drunk driving accident as well but does not have the money. So We all get called into the office because the boss is going to call the kid and convince him to participate. While talking to the kid the boss suggest that maybe they can put his friends picture inside of the CD and that they can get his friends mom to play for him to have his track on the CD. We get her number, call her, and convince her to fork over the money so that her son can have his picture on the CD and so that his friend can have his track on the comp. I left the next day. Do not be scammed into this. These companies will always stay in business if we keep bowing our heads. We have to Refuse this mentality, Rethink our future, and Rebuild what we once knew.

RE: Trial by fire (D-bags) (stay away)

I saw the original ad too. The comment about Captured was way out of line. The comment has been edited out, but that doesn't change the fact that these guys are a bunch of idiots and should not be taken seriously. They call themselves "pros"? Get a clue!

Keyboard players beware.

Looking For a Benevolent Simon Cowell? ($35hr) Vocal Coaching (Metro Boston and Beyond)

What makes a good vocalist a great vocalist? Very often it's very minute details in a particular performance that makes all the difference. For example, you could do an awesome performance and hit every note perfectly, but you need work on microphone technique or maybe you could have enuciated the words better. Sometimes when you watch a rendition of a song on "Idol" you'll say to yourself, "sounded fine to me". Then Simon will roll his eyes and tell the whole world how terrible it was. Is he wrong or does he just get off on being a jerk? The answer is no, at least for the first part of the last question. Simon is not in the business of giving people constructive advice. I am. There is much more to being a great singer than simply singing in key, having a passion for it etc. This is what I teach. I know from many years of experience, singing, and teaching singing, what it takes to bring your performance to a much higher level. It's almost impossible to be completely objective about your abilities. This is why people who are serious about singing get a vocal coach as a trusted guide to help them accomplish their goals.

WHAT I'LL TEACH YOU: From my experience I've encountered many people who've got great voices but what they lack is longevity. You can sing 4 or 5 songs but then you start to lose it. If your ambition is to sing 25 or 30 songs at a gig on a given night you need to learn exercises (just like an athelete)that will make your voice strong enough to do that.

You will learn vocal warm ups which are extremely important to keep from having vocal blow out. How to utilize your diaphragm for sustaining notes without losing your breath. I will teach you visualization techniques that will lend an authenticity to your perfomance. CONFIDENCE: I approach this issue in great detail as it seems to be common hurdle for many aspiring vocalist. and much much more.

I once did a gig where I blew out my voice. I literally could not speak in a normal voice after the show. I was informed if I did'nt get my vocal chords strong enough that the damage could be permanent. This got my attention in a hurry. I got instruction which literally saved my singing career.
Please do this for yourself. Learn what is proper technique to singing as opposed to winging it. Whether you study with me or a different teacher. GET PROPER INSTRUCTION!!! Nothing will bum you out more than to lose that gift. And remember it's a gift. Something inspired you to become a singer, don't blow it. Lots of people would do anything for the inspiration to become a singer.
Your already there. Take this opportunity now.

Educated at Berklee I have been singing for over 30+ years and teaching privately for 10 years. If you can't afford Berklee, I'm the next best thing.

The good news is that I will come to you. Better news is, it's affordable. Just $30 an hour. I'm very patient and understanding with the people I work with. I will never roll my eyes and put you down. Instead I will instill the confidence you need to sing like a pro. I will let you know where I feel your coming up short, only so you can work on it when your practicing on your own. Become the singer you want to be. Hire me as your teacher/coach and make magic happen. Tom 617-650-1742

Guitar, Piano and/or Voice Buddy Wanted (Waltham)

Okay, I'm a songwriter who needs to improve his musical skills and am looking to try something like the "buddy system" for this. I have a guitar that has hung on my wall for over a year without being touched. I can safely say that if nothing changes, it will continue to hang there. Want to get together and talk/do musical stuff? Practice piano or guitar, or maybe just work on singing? I figure as long as we're doing something musical, I'll be happy. Any ideas or suggestions?

Songwriter Looking for Collaborators (Waltham)

Based in Waltham but happy to drive within reason. I am a songwriter who writes across most musical genres, from rap to heavy metal, but focusing mostly on rock and pop. Ideally I would like to find a collaborator who sings and plays at least guitar or piano but needs help finishing lyrics or finding melodies. The goal for me would be to get sketch recordings of our songs so that they can be shopped around, or at least to have a CD for distribution among friends, etc. What would your goal be?
