The Portec Rail Group invites applications for the position of Applications Specialist in support of the Australian market with an emphasis on wheel / rail friction management, as well as track components. It is anticipated that this remote consulting position will be based in or near Brisbane, Queensland with a start date of early 2010, and will be primarily directed by the Portec Rail Group / Kelsan Technologies office in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The successful candidate will have responsibilities in the following areas:
· Working closely with the Portec Rail Group’s Australian commercial agents, providing active support for the current Portec Rail client base.
· Supporting existing and new business for all Friction Management and Track Components products (and, where appropriate, other product groups).
· Engaging in business development activities to expand the Portec Rail Group’s presence in the Australian market.
· Providing high level technical presentations, materials and project proposals to existing and prospective clients.
· Applications design / configuration, including system specification, preparation of quotes (in conjunction with the commercial agents), coordination of product supply with the global Portec Rail manufacturing divisions and support of delivery, installation, start-up and performance monitoring. Providing technical support including on-track installation / maintenance activities, as well as data collection, analysis and reporting as needed for test programs and full-scale rollouts.
· Direct customer relationship management and customer support / service visits.
Organizational skills and a self-starting attitude are paramount to success in this position. The ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding and fast paced environment is critical, as is the ability to communicate complex concepts to a technical customer base in both written reports and verbal presentations. The successful candidate must have extremely good communications skills, and be capable of providing clear, detailed updates to a remote management structure as well as receiving and acting on feedback and direction with urgency and dedication. Qualified candidates will have an engineering degree and applicable experience in the following areas:
o Project management
o Hands-on practical engineering experience with mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
o Design and execution of industrial experiments, including instrumentation, data collection and statistical analysis
o Preparation and delivery of high level technical presentations, reports, specifications and proposals.
o Customer relationship management / sales and technical support experience.
o Working and productive knowledge of common software tools such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Previous experience in one or more of the following areas would also be desirable:
Railway systems and hardware / track components, wheel / rail interface contact mechanics, lubrication, wear of materials, noise mitigation. This is a full time permanent position and salary is commensurate with experience. Up
