The Role

The position of Financial Language Editor working on Operating Companies Data Sets content is to research, analyze and translate financial information from specific non-English documents into English. Another vital role of a FLE is to maintain translation software dictionaries. Dictionaries are used for machine translation by staff in Hyderabad and/or utilized by translators for software assisted manual translation. The FLE is involved in three main processes:

Dictionary development and maintenance. After core dictionary development is complete this process transitions to Financial Comments stage, which requires translation of unclear and/or untranslated financial strings; this process entails resolving unclear translations noted in various production processes.

Direct Company Research. A FLE is required to either search for reports – typically found on the Internet, and/or directly contact a company to obtain financial reports for given reporting periods. Direct contact may be established via various methods including email, fax and telephone.

Business Intelligence. A FLE is involved in research, translation and creation of short descriptions containing the most current information on a company’s business activities, management team, capital and shareholding structure, and business relations. The creation of business intelligence write-ups follows company guidelines.


Specific Responsibilities

• Translate financial strings received from staff in Hyderabad for machine-translated languages and/or translation of relevant sections of full financial reports for manually-translated languages
• Work with local and overseas colleagues to come up with the most appropriate and relevant translations
• Maintain financial dictionaries by adding new terms when required and taking care of consistency in terminology
• Search for relevant financial documents on the Internet
• Communicate with companies by sending emails and/or by directly calling the companies to secure needed financial documents
• Create write-ups containing a company’s business description and information about officers, directors, and compensation and ownership details.
