labrador or others play time (Brewster)

Hi,

I live in Brewster, and have a very good sized fenced in yard. I'd like to find someone to has an active dog to schedule regular play times.

Nickerson, Punkhorns, Thompsons Field, Drummer Boy, etc.. are great places, but I'd like to also have them her at my house... or your house if you've got a fenced in yard.

Must be responsible easygoing respectful parents, and sweet fun active dogs. My dog is gentle with smaller animals and super respectful (but playful) with older dogs. And he loves all dogs, children and just everyone really.

I'm super hollistic with him, so am open to learning more and more about this if you're also interested.... health, feeding, alternative medicines, etc, but this certainly isn't necessary for our dogs to play. Thank you, Kim 617.510.3338.

Cute Short Hair Hamster (Hyannis)

Pug/English Bull dog mix pup (ADOPTION PENDING!!!)

I am looking for somewhere I can take REASONABLE (a.k.a. wicked cheap) horseback riding lessons. I have a strong foundation in western and hunt seat and some dressage work. I have been riding two awesome horses nearby, but it's a half lease/schooling arrangement, and I feel like I've been getting kind of lazy with my technique always just hacking around alone. I am a recent college grad with the common problem of not being able to find a real job using my degree as my loans payments pile up. I am more than willing to work in the barn to help pay for my lessons. I am also an experienced tutor with a degree in biochem/french, if you have kids who need tutoring or babysitting in exchange for lessons. I work 9-6 during the week, but am free after that and on weekends.

Adult Dog Wanted (mid cape)

I will soon be living alone, and I'm looking for a companion. I'm being very picky; I wanna find a dog that's a good fit for me, and vice versa. I've owned dogs most of my life (a lab, an aussie, a boston and a german mutt) and I live in a nice little house on a quiet road with a small fenced in backyard. It has to be an adult (or nearly) dog who is completely housebroken and proven to be good with cats! I don't have any kids around. Relatively mellow would be a plus; I'll certainly be able to take him for a nice long walk/jog daily, but he has to be ok hanging out in the house by himself without tearing up the place while I'm at work. Medium to large would be ideal as I'd also like him to be my "guard dog" (even if he's actually a big baby!). I'm willing to pay a reasonable adoption fee, especially for a dog who's been fixed. I am glad they are taking out the adoption because those people were terrible. My friend wanted to adopt one of those cats in the Hyannis Petsmart, in Sept. She called numerous times to set up an appointment to fill out paperwork and adopt him. This was in Sept. and still knowone has called her back. She went and adopted at the Centerville MSPCA instead it was a much better experience. I can't blame Petsmart for kicking them out if the are not adopting out the cats then whats the point. Hopefully they will let a new organization in.

Siamese Kitten needs good home (Yarmouth)

We have a siamese kitten named Cooper that we need to find a good home for. He would not be good around young children, as he has scratched my 2 year old numerous times in the face and hands. I can not risk my son's safety anymore. He is very playful and can be very loveable but he is unpredictable so only people that have older children need to respond please.

He has a good personality overall but can get very aggressive at times. He will sleep with you in bed but loves to play in the middle of the night and bite your feet. He loves to make sure you feed him every morning before you do anything haha he meows so loud to let you know to take care of him first before starting your morning routine.

He is absolutely adorable (Light tan body with black tail and face/ears) and we hate to have to give him away, but we have a new baby as well and do not want him scratching her or trying to get in her bassinet.

He is approx. 10-11 weeks old. He is due for his shots anytime. He will come with a almost full bag of kitten food and a couple cans of wet food, his food and water bowl and a full bag of kitty litter. We are asking a re-homing fee of $50 to ensure a good home and to cover his food, litter, bowls etc., (we paid alot of money for him). I do not want to just give him to anyone I want to make sure that wherever he goes is where he is going to stay. Thank you.

3 month old sheperd/akita mix (East Falmouth)

Sorry about your cat escaping. If he is not neutered, and for some reason, too many 'indoor' cats are not fixed.....he will travel miles to 'mate' w/a female, either Feral or domestic. It is instinctive, most especially when in 'heat'.

Cast a wide net to find him w/posters everywhere....the Stop 'n Shop being just one place.

SPAY & NEUTER! It can't be said enough!

If you can't afford to do that for your pet, you can't afford to own one. It is part of the BASIC Necessities of pet ownership, as is getting it shots, wormed & blood work from a Vet. Those are the Basic things for any pet at a Vet's office. Just like food for feeding them, & water for them to drink.

There are thousands of unwanted cats & kittens w/o homes who die daily, b/c of PEOPLE not bothering w/Spay & Neutering. Only YOU can put an end to it. Only YOU can save the thousands of innocent lives it cost in cat/kitten deaths as well as doing your own cat a huge favor.

Isn't it worth it to you when you think of it in those terms? Or are you still too apathetic to care about other cats? Hope not.

She IS Wonderful! But it is my understanding that she works primarily w/FERAL CATS. NOT Domestics that people just want to drop off, etc. Her mission is FERALS. Please don't get her innundated w/people that are concerned for their 'home' kitty's. That is not the case here. If you are positive of her also dealing w/domestics, I'd check w/her first, before posting about her dealing w/them too.

She is opening up a FERAL ONLY cat rescue soon, and it will NOT be open to the general public, Again, b/c it is for FERALS. Anyone who will be dropping off their domestics, in hopes of having them cared for, homes found, etc, will be just adding more work for her & her workers, that will be taking those drop offs to the local shelter in Centerville. The rescue is NOT going to be dealing with them, so I would double check on what you posted.

The doors of her new place will not even be unlocked, to make sure the general public does not just walk in w/their cats or to just see what's going on. Ferals can not be disturbed like that, over & over again. And domestics can not be mixed in w/ferals in a cage. So people who feel they may be able to 'drop off' their unwanted cats, will be in for a surprise, when they find themselves locked out b/c they won't be allowed to do so there. She may have to put a sign up to that affect, & direct people to the Centerville Shelter w/their cats/kittens.

The shelter just euthanizes ferals, b/c they neither have the time, $ or people power to deal with them. This is an alternative for them, to help keep them alive. It's strictly going to be a TNR place, (Trap & Release) to help the overwhelming overpopulation of ferals on the Cape, that is compounded by people who dump their domestic cats & kittens unfixed, or allow their own cats outside that are not fixed. They mate w/Ferals too, and then we have more ferals, or domestic cats going home pregnant by a feral.

It's NUTS out there! And it's the people that started it all, by just dumping their cats anywhere & not having them spayed/neutered. It's a huge problem everywhere in the country.

It makes her sound like she is going to help all cats, and that is NOT the case. No one could possibly do that on donations! She already has her hands full just trying to help several hundred FERALS on the Cape. That is why she is opening up a new, larger place to handle them all better.

People, please take note of this. It's NOT for your domestic, tame house cats. But please do help w/any donations to help her keep this enormously overwhelming task going as smoothly as possible. Anyone who cares for cats & animals in general at all, is encouraged to help w/donations for a desperately needed cause here on the Cape.

I am posting this so people may be aware of a wonderful organization that helps Feral Cats and strays. I was refered to this organization when I needed to trap several left behind cats in my yard, I searched high and low looking for help, most organizations were "out of money" or wanted and outrageous amount of money like thousands for permanent care, all I was looking to do was trap them fix them and they could live on my property.

We have just become homeless and are having trouble finding anything partially due to the dogs. Those two little things are the life of my son and we both can't bear the thought of putting them in a pound and never seeing them again. I have plenty of food and treats for them and I would continue supplying that. The only request is that my son will be able to come visit when he can. Also would like it if they were in either Sandwich or Falmouth. I know I'm asking a lot, but I just can take them away from him, especially given the situation we've found ourselves in. So please let me know if there is any way anyone out there can help."

free house cat (Mashpee)

Small female black & white house cat needs to find a new home where she will be the only cat. Shy-lo is small for her age, about 1 year old, and my four full size cats are hunting her. She is litter box trained but is terrified of the outdoors. She is very affectionate when she feels safe. Shy-lo was abandoned at an apartment when the renters moved out. She came to us from a friend so we have no records of shots or medical history. She hasn't come into heat since she came to us in July. She may be spayed but there is no way to tell. Shy-lo is a sweet cat and deserves a great home.

I agree w/the knowledgeable post about the horrors of what happens to hundreds of innocent strays & pets out there daily. As someone who volunteers for helping abused animals for years now, in 3 different states, I can tell everyone first hand, that these things do happen. The prosecution rate is almost nil. New laws need to be enacted to help protect animals better, not only on the streets, but in testing facilities as well. The horrors that happen in them is astounding, and is 'OK'd by the law! Look that up on the Internet.

There are MANY testing facilities & schools in the NE area, where MANY household pets wind up too, b/c people don't bother to check up on where their pet is heading with those 'nice people' out their door. The nice people are called 'Bunchers' & there is a vast ignorance about them, and the role they play in thousands of people's pets every day in this country.

Knowledge is strength. These animals need us to be more knowledgeable about what goes on, so we can do something about it. This is another area in the reality of life where 'ignorance is NOT bliss'. Definitely not for the animals!

Thank you for your posting. It's something I have thought about writing as well, even though I was a firm believer in letting my cats outside, so I do understand the other side of the story. I thought it was cruel and unnatural for cats to be kept indoors. Also I thought my cats would never adjust. Well, after seeing a coyote with a dead cat, I made the decision. And yes, my cat cried at the door for quite some time. But he has adjusted and is perfectly happy now (and safe), being indoors. I too urge anyone with an outdoor cat to reconsider, and keep your cat indoors. Otherwise, your pet may end up as dinner or worse.

Sammy just turned a year old in August. He is pure bred, AKC registered with a HomeAgain microchip. He is UTD on his vaccines and will be neutered within the next week. He is fully housebroken. He is good with kids, cats, and other dogs. He is even good off leash! Roxy is a sweet loving active Pomeranian. She is about a year old. She is UTD on her vaccines. She is great with children of all ages, other dogs, and cats. She is fully housebroken. Sammy and Roxy LOVE the outdoors, hiking etc. They need an outdoorsy family, not city living. These two have been raised together. These two MUST go together. They ADORE children and would prefer a home with children.

All the 'lost' cats...& found (???)

There are almost 30 cats listed on just one page in the lost & found on CL...all LOST, except for a small handful that are 'found', so obviously they are 'lost' too, but no one is posting for them.

People, GET A CLUE! IF you love your cats, then make sure they don't get out, to be 'missing', which more than likely means they became coyote food, road kill, fox feeders, possible dog bait, or succombed to some other horror for Halloween, if they are solid black.

Many kids/punks, also take strays for abuse for 'fun' in a garage or where ever they can get away w/killing it slowly. We don't live in Mayberry here. Those are the hard facts for cats outside. A 'friendly' lost kitty is easily lured by a sick teen or adult, who is looking to solve his boredom problems for a while, or fuel his mental issues.

If they are not fixed, they will travel several miles to find a mate, and many will mate w/ferals, therefore continuing the vicious cycle of thousands of uncared for, sick cats on the Cape, surviving any way they can. Many exposing whatever disease they have, to your domestic cats roaming freely outside, if they are not protected w/shots from a vet.

I know some people feel it is unkind to keep a cat indoors. Well, today with all the problems out there facing an 'outdoor' kitty, it is really more unkind to let them 'roam' freely for any # of things to happen to them.

Most lost cats are never found b/c of these outside factors that await them. At the very least, fix & microchip your cats, to help keep them closer to home, and easier to get back to you if they get lost. Make sure the microchip is UTD & working properly thru the company/provider. Not all are activated as they should be. So make sure of that!
Keep your cats UTD w/needed shots as well, to help them stay healthy against outside cats that they may fight with, or have other contact with, that could give them a disease.

There is no substitute for keeping your cats safe indoors w/you.

I hope the best for all the lost out there. If you don't get your cats back, please learn from this harsh lesson, and do it differently for the next one you get. It is really in their own best interest.

With all the things on the market today, indoor cats can enjoy the outdoors in a restricted area, or even on a harness, walking w/you like a dog. Trained early enough, they will do just that. It's not cruel...it's keeping them safe, protected & alive for many years to come w/you.

I haven't been myself so I can't give any feedback but, every Wednesday the Friends of The Plymouth Pound sponsor a low cost clinic at the Sagamore Beach Fire Station. From what I have heard from Gayle Fitzpatrick on the radio, they offer a free exam and low cost vaccines for walk in's between 11:00 AM - 3:00PM Wednesdays only. They also offer low cost cat neuters - only cats, boys only - no spaying. You need to call and make an appointment for the cat neutering. Sorry, I don't have a number, but I think you can look up Friends of the Plymouth Pound online - or maybe someone on CL knows it. If anyone has been, I'd be interested in knowing how the experience was.

todd needs a new home (bourne)

this is todd, he is a mix breed hamster, he is very sweet, he doesnt bite. but as with all hamsters they are cranky if you wake them up. hes a sweet heart, i would love to keep him. but i just had a new baby, and todd is not getting the attention he deserves. he will come with a small carrying cage and treats. we feed him people food. and vegetables. nothing unhealthy. he gets scrambled eggs for breakfast.. lol, he is very loved. it breaks my heart to get rid of him. i will be asking a very small adoption fee to ensure that he is not snake food. he will also come with his wooden house and his ball, and his bed, and dust bath which he doesnt use... lol

Sweet, gorgeous "unadoptable" kitty still holding out hope (Cape Cod/Nantucket)

Teddy is an absolutely beautiful nine year-old flame-point Ragdoll mix hoping that his forever home is still out there somewhere. He has been at the MSPCA on Nantucket for many months, and has suffered lots of disappointments in his life. First, his owner died and Teddy and his brother had to go to the shelter. Both were adopted, but Teddy went to a home with a woman who couldn’t give him enough attention, and as a result, he had the occasional litter box accident from loneliness and stress. He was returned to the shelter, where he’s been ever since. He was using his box perfectly as the shelter for a while, but recently began having accidents again, probably because he isn’t getting enough love and attention and is in a stressful environment. He is on the brink of being labeled unadoptable, a label Teddy doesn’t agree with at all! People have given up on him at times, but he hadn’t given up on finding the perfect person to love unconditionally. He would really like to find a devoted, low-stress person or family to give him lots of understanding and care. He is very affectionate and has a great personality. He is healthy and fully vaccinated. Though he is on Nantucket, he can be transported to the mainland to the right home.
