User Experience Designer (Cedar Rapids, IA)

USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER

User Experience Designer is a key member of the interactive software product team, responsible for understanding the market problem, designing an interface solution and communicating with engineering on the final solution to meet the needs of the eHealth market. User Experience Designer is a creative thinker, bringing ideas to the team to deliver product features in aggressive timelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.
-Collaborate with product management team to distill user research and business objectives into functional and interface specifications/prototypes
-Gain a thorough understanding of the problem, value, context, and users
-Design elegant, efficient, user-centered solutions to given problems
-Articulate and document solutions through user flows, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, test cases, or written specifications
-Interact with engineering daily to clarify and adjust development requirements and constraints
-Support research efforts by UX Researcher.
- Apply research findings to designs balancing the impact on target audience/s
- Develop and maintain a design pattern library

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
BA/BS in a design-related field or combination of relevant education and minimum of 2 years experience
-Additional education or training in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, or related fields preferred
-Experience with, and knowledge of Information Architecture, Interaction Design, Usability, Visual Design, and Prototyping, including related activities, techniques, and deliverables
-Experience applying rapid, iterative design process to complex problems
-Strong visual design skills, portfolio required demonstrating your skills and experience.

Examples of work should include:
- Evidence of collaboration, consensus building, and compromise while improving the user experience
- Evidence applying UX research to design solutions
- Evidence turning actionable insights to product concepts and prototypes
- Samples of user flows, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, test cases, or written specifications
- Designs of Web sites and Web-based applications
-Collaborate with Developers, Researchers, and Designers for both analysis and synthesis
-Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology a plus

Language Skills
-Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to communicate well with technical and business staff, as well as end users

Computer Skills
-Familiar with Visio, Axure, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other design/prototyping tools
-Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience creating wireframes with Axure or Visio a plus

Reasoning Ability
- Ability to estimate tasks, set priorities and work independently to meet milestones and deadlines.
- Proactive ability to identify and resolve obstacles to continue progress on project.
- Implementation/Execution to organize and manage multiple priorities and/or projects and take responsibility for achieving results.
- Ability to articulate the business and technology needs and values behind the design requirements
- Analytical thinking with ability to calculate risks

-Ability to work quickly and prioritize effort
-Must be detailed-oriented, well-organized, and a self-starter
-Must be extremely self-motivated, and work well as part of a diverse, cross-functional team.
