Foster care youth and alumni (Driving distance to Cedar Rapids)

The Cedar Rapids Elevate chapter would like to invite all current and former foster youth over the age of 13 to attend our chapter meetings. This includes young people who live(d) with a relative other than their parents, were in foster care but returned to their birth parents, aged out, got adopted or are still in foster care. Young people are welcome to bring supportive adults to meetings if they like. Meetings are facilitated by a foster care alum with a decade of experience in foster care advocacy. All affiliated adults have submitted clear background and driving checks. Rides to and from meetings can often be arranged if contact is made prior to noon on the day of the meeting.

We hold our meetings on the
1st & 3rd Thursday of every month
from 6:30-8:30 pm
at the Four Oaks Bridge

Womens Self-Defense Seminar (Cedar Rapids Residence)

I am offering a self defense seminar for women and was wondering if anyone would be interested. One in three women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. The seminar will be open all to women ages 14 and older. All activities can be modified to physical limitations. We will be dealing with real life scenarios.

The Seminar will included:
Asssult prevention
Geting out of grabs and holds from all positions
Striking techniques: how to do damage and get away fast
Weapon defense

• It will be a relaxed, fun environment where I will answer any specific questions that you may have. It's a chance for some of us women to get together and do something that makes a difference.

About me: I've been involved in the martial arts for over 15 years. I've taught karate to adults and children for about 5 years. I've participated in womens self defense and childrens danger awareness programs.

Seminar Times:
Tuesday Oct. 27th at 9:00 am and again at 6:00 pm
Wednesday Oct. 28th at 10:00 am

• If these times or dates don't work for you and you can get a few people together I can make special arrangements.

• I will be charging $10 a person for the time and money it will take( some equipment, paper handouts and copies) No woman should go with out self defense training if she can't afford it, if this is the case let me know and we can work something out.

Want to play some D&D? (Cedar Rapids)

Okay, this feels totally lame but here goes. I'm looking to add some members to my D&D group. We've pretty much approached all of our current friends and between scheduling conflicts and a lack of interest, we haven't been able to really gather to many players. We are ages 25-29 and we are all guys (big surprise there). We're all pretty much into stuff like zombies, anime, games, science fiction, fantasy, you name so yeah, we're a little geeky. That doesn't mean that we aren't also regular guys, well most of us anyway.

We game Sunday mornings between 9am and 2 or 3pm but sometimes we game until 5pm (not very often though). We try to play as often as 2 to 3 times a month, or we'd like to anyway... We play 4th edition and our games generally enjoy a healthy blend of combat, skill challenges, story, and yes role-playing. Right now we are in the middle of a big campaign, we've been playing it since 4E was released so, since 2007, which means that there is some rich background story that you'll have to pick up over time.

So, I'm reaching out to craigslist for help. I'm hoping to touch base with people our group knows but haven't spoken to in a while, but I'm not opposed to meeting somebody new. I'm not giving my identity out for personal reasons but I'll give out some hints as to who I am. I'm 29 years old, I graduated from prairie in 1999 and I went to Roosevelt Middle School with one of the other players. Before I started on my career path I made some D&D capable friends at jobs like Wal-Mart(yuk), Subway (1st Ave), Papa John's, and Access Direct (I promise I'm a better class of guy these days). Finally, another player and I used to play with a bunch of guys quite a few years ago at Cambridge Townhouses.

So what happens if you don't think you are one of the people I used to game with or hang out with back in the day but you would like to play some d&d anyway? The answer is simple: reply to this add. I'll probably grab another play and we'll either grab a beer or get lunch or something.

First things first. I have a feeling, I'm going to have to filter some of you out first.

So I need you to reply with your name, age, personal description, hobbies, interests, and that sort of thing. Send a picture too. Unfortunately D&D tends to attract some socially inept people, I'd rather not bring any unsavory characters into my home. Also, practicing good hygiene is vital, so don't stink up my house.
