Dispensing Pharmacist Needed For LTC (Conrad, IA)

DISPENSING PHARMACIST
The Pharmacist is responsible for the continuation of pharmacy management’s goals and objectives within the dispensing pharmacy. The pharmacist provides routine and emergency comprehensive and accurate drug screening, information, processing and dispensing services for various drug distribution systems to the centers. Management skills and accuracy are required to ensure that the appropriate drug product reaches the right customer efficiently and safely.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Execute day-to-day operations in the pharmacy as they pertain to workflow, production quotas, and deadlines.

2. Ensure that the pharmacy is in compliance with all local, state and federal rules and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy. Assist in ensuring that the pharmacy is in compliance with all DEA policies and procedures as set forth by the Pharmacy or the regulatory agency, whichever is stricter. Ensure that the pharmacy is in compliance with all third party payor contract rules and regulations by which the pharmacy is bound.

3. Supervise the pharmacy production staff to ensure proper data entry, work flow, security of the pharmacy area, and adherence to delivery schedules.

4. Screen all new medication orders for appropriate dose, drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications prior to dispensing the medication.

5. Check for completeness and accuracy of all new and refill labels and orders. Check for content and accuracy of all drug packaging and labeling.

6. Preparation and/or supervision of all sterile IV drug products or solutions.

7. Provide verbal or written consultation and information to healthcare professionals/ customers regarding services and drug products.

8. Obtain verbal and/or written prescription orders from the physician and/or designee as allowed by law.

9. Obtain clarification of orders, when needed.

The work to be performed includes, but is not limited to:
Train Bacteriology lab personnel with the production of several clostridial reagents including toxins, antiserum, and animal challenge work.
Also train with the standardization and validation of new references for several Clostridial and other bacterial agents, train on the operation of fermentors.
Preparation of P. multocida reagents for use in cattle.
Perform host-animal challenge studies for several of these agents in a high containment facility.
Write the SOP for the production of several toxics such as Tetanus toxins and antitoxins such as Tetanus antitoxins based on their technical expertise of preparing these reagents.
Write the SOP for the operation of the new 14 liter New Brunswick fermentor and New Brunswick Bioflow 5000 based on their technical expertise of operating one.
Validate guinea pig lethal dose fifty for the following spore challenges:
haemolyticum spore preparation
sordello spore preparation
chauvoei spore preparation
Implement a standard testing requirement for clostridium perfringerns type A toxoid and bacterin.

Must have a thorough familiarity with veterinary biologic relations, research and development, biologics manufacturing, lab testing of animals vaccines and diagnostics, and particularly the specific scientific lab methods used to develop these testing procedures and reagents. Must have extensive anaerobic as well as aerobic bacterial technical knowledge to be able to initiate the work on the afore-mentioned projects from day to day. Must be able to work with a high level capacity with no additional training.
