I'm confused.
Four weeks ago I bought SoBe Life Water for $1.00 a bottle at my friendly Hy Vee.
Today I was going to get another supply. Guess what! The shelf list price today was $1.29. And a extra reduced price tag stating "Reduced to $1.29"
And in small print "from $1.49". I asked a floor manager how a 29% increase in price justified a reduced price tag. Seems the supplier (Pepsi Products, so I'm told), has increased the wholesale price, so instead of the shelf price being $1.49. I'm getting a bargain at only $1.29

That's a 29% increase, down from a 49% increase, in less than a month. How is this saving me money? The answer: Not buying it anymore

You are correct sir. As someone from Iowa City who is only in CR for college I can attest to this. If you're not a student you can go whole week here without seeing one single hot chick. I've had the distinct displeasure to live and work in this toilet of a town for many years. I moved to Iowa City a year ago and it is like night and day. When I lived in CR, the opinion most of my friends (and myself , at the time) held, was that that people in Iowa City were "snobs, stuck-up, wierdos, or whatever other typical sociophobic BS name you can think of. I found, instead, that people in Iowa City are smarter, friendlier, more civil, more interesting, better looking, more well rounded people in general than the folks in CR. True true true, like it or not. Unless you've lived in both places, you have no way of knowing.

Why do these as*holes get to ride around all day and NEVER get a ticket for being to loud? WTF is going on? Confessions of a Sandwich Delivery Driver

I'm graduating from college at the end of December and just put my 2 week notice in so I feel safe enough to share these observations with you.

1. Non tippers - I keep a notebook with names and addresses of everyone who stiffs me or leaves a very poor tip. When I get a delivery order I cross check that name/address with my notebook. Your tip determines who long it's going to take for me to deliver your order. I've been known to go out and run personal errands before I deliver to a non tipper. I personally never do anything to contaminate anyone's food. That is just wrong, but in the four years I've been doing this I've seen some other drivers do some pretty disgusting shit. There is an asshole on 10th st. Marion who has eaten more sperm than the biggest fag at Hamburger Mary's.

2. People who call 10 minutes before closing time - I use the absolute worst ingredients I can possibly use. Like soggy, slimy vegetables? Over cooked bread? Brown and white lettuce?

3. Rude in store customers - See #2

To those parents whose kids bring home new stuff all the time, such as shoes they stole from the skating rink so my kid has to come home barefoot, or a basketball left unattended for a minute at the Y, or a bike thrown down briefly in the front yard......what the hell? Are you just happy you don't have to buy shoes for you kid now? Don't you question it at all? A normal parent would ask a couple of questions. You do know your child will be in jail one day, right? He will have you to thank for that. It is, of course, possible my own kids will go down the wrong path, but we can at least make an effort to instill some morals, can't we? Perhaps those of us that are single, enjoy other activities besides the bar scene, and want to meet new people should form some kind of network to meet each other? I had a year of doing the bar scene and it got tired really fast, now a decade later I can't get my friends to peel themselves away from those same tired bars and do something fun. I'm single, over 30, not really looking for a partner but I wouldn't mind trying something new and see if there are other nice people out there who enjoy life. I enjoy live music, movies, bowling, art, photography, etc. and I'm pretty much down to try anything new. There are plenty of sections and forums on CL for socializing, maybe if enough people are interested we could get a group together and see what happens. There is plenty to do in CR, you just have to look for it and be open to new things, maybe a little spontaneous.

I am kind of amazed at the amount of responses and the varried responses. Let me clear a few things up. I am 29, F, no kids, dont do drugs, good looking, have a damn good job (which is what brought me here), make damn good money, have no intrest in going to a bar by myself to meet people cause that just leads to me getting pissed off cause some douchebag expects that cause he bought me a beer I now have to fuck him, then some other douchebag thinking I have to fuck him cause he 'protected' me from the first douchebag. I dont know what exactly is "with" Cedar Rapids but I know this crappy little town is full of alcoholics and people from Chicago coming here because of our good welfare system. Its about Cedar Rapids, if you havent seen it you should. It will all make sense. I am a born and raised Cedar Rapidian and not proud of it. I understand about people not understanding Cedar Rapids! Iowa City is different because its basically a huge melting pot of people because of the college, Cedar Rapids, not so much. I have lived here for several years and I do have a good group of friends that I have met here, but the dating scene... the only girls that are great are the ones that...AREN'T FROM CEDAR RAPIDS. I dated a girl from Cedar Rapids and she ended up dumping me (I am 23, going to college for the second time, to further myself, I have promising job aspects, i want to have a family, (and she does have a kid, who likes me)) for a guy that is 18.... yes 18!! years older than HER! the guy has NO college degree and a kid HER AGE! I have to agree with the feeling that it is hard to meet new people in CR but I think it is hard everywhere I have been. I can understand what the original poster was saying about some of the people in CR have not evolved past the adolescent behavior of living to get drunk every friday night. I've been on a few dates since I moved here and even dated the same man steadily for a year and all they ever wanted to do was go to the bars or get drunk. I am sure there is more to do in this town than that. I moved here from a smaller town and love living here but would really like to have more friends. I do not have a problem with drinking and I do drink on occasion but it is not something I need to do to have a good time. I agree with the original poster. This city is one of the strangest places I've ever lived. I grew up in Iowa City, but spent the late 90's and most of this decade running a successful tour company in Mexico. Economic times being what they are killed tourism where I was so I decided to return to Iowa to finish college. I also find it very hard to meet people here. It seems that most of the locals got married/pregnant very young and haven't ever evolved past getting wasted on a Friday night. I've gone on a couple of very bad dates here. The first one was with a woman a coworker set me up with (her sister). I thought the coworker was a friend until I met my "date". She wore a nascar shirt to our date. She asked me what I study. I told her Spanish translation. She told me that she thought it is stupid to learn another language because everyone should just speak English. She also said that "college is a waste of time when there are plenty of good factory jobs". My second date was even worse than her. As a whole Cedar Rapids women are not very evolved.

Tae Kwon Do Demo-Wow! (Lindale Mall)

I was at Lindale Mall on Saturday and they had a Tae Kwon Do demonstration in the middle of the mall. I was amazed. There were several high ranking blackbelts and masters there and it looked like a lot of them were actually from Korea. Anyway, these guys were flying through the air. One of the guys seriously broke 6 boards with one kick. I think their school must be in the mall. Pretty sweet.

Has anyone ever stopped by the lights by the Marion Walmart around midnight-3 or 4am? The problem I am having is they NEVER change if you want to turn to go to Walmart! I was told they are activated by the cameras on top of the lights. Yeah right! Ive sat there many times and only when A car leaving from Walmart makes the lights change. A recruiter called me to day about a job today in Cedar Rapids. I have never been to Iowa at all. The closet I've lived would be Chicago area. Now I am in Houston, TX which I know is warm all the time. But it is too warm here I mean it is a sauna literally about 6 months out of the year. The 1st week of October we had a heat wave even for Houston, it was 92 deg with humidity in the 90% range. I am not kidding. But guess what? It is like that all the time from May - Sept. Of course its cooled off some now back to the 80's. I will not miss this place I'm leaving in about a week. Maybe to CR but will have to wait and see. As for Houston I will not miss much about here if anything. It does not snow (ever) but you will pay for it in the summer. The traffic is bad (awful) a lot of illegal immigrants from everywhere (mexican, indian, chinese), the police are never around and if you are white you are the minority here no question. And if you want to live inside the city limits keep in mind it is expensive to avoid the bad neighborhoods, like a lot. Just my 2 cents worth, have a good one.

Iowa is great, it just depends on what you make of it.

There are many outdoor activities you can participate in from hunting, golf, fishing, camping, softball/baseball leagues, cross country skiing, skiing or hiking.
If you had thought about it, like someone posted before, Iowa does not have the population to support a pro team. Did you think about that one very hard? Several cities in Iowa have USHL hockey teams. Also, there are ALCS baseball teams through out the state. If that isn't good enough, drive to a larger city, and check out the pros. Our small town teams are fun as well and much cheaper!
There are museums through out the state that are very nice if you would go visit one of them.
During the summer there are many outdoor venues that you can attend.

Depending on where you are at in the state there are many large cities that you can go for the weekend that are within a five hour drive: Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, St. Louis or Omaha

My guess is that you are some big city slime that thinks he is better than us 'hicks' and moved to Iowa thinking that the fun will just fall into your lap because that's what's happened to you your whole life. Or, you are so socially inept and haven't been able to make a single friend the whole four years you have been here.

My advice, pull your head out of your ass, make the best of it, and you could possibly have a good time! If it's up there too far, get the fuck out of the state that we love!

Homeless. There are a few but nothing like you see in warmer climates.

Snow! It can be fun if you have the right frame of mind.

Pro teams? Iowa doesn't have the population base to support any. Never has, never will. Ditto for North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, etc. Besides, too many pro teams in a league really dilutes the talent and you get a bunch of boring loser teams. Just pretend the hawks are pros. Well, they do get free everything and the coaches are supremely over paid.

Crime. Really, far less violent drug crime than you see in socal, south florida and any where near the mexico/usa border.

Work you ass off here or freeze it off. That's why so many move to warmer climates.

No forest fires, no earth quakes, no mud slides, no hurricanes. Just an occasional tornado or localized flood.

No obnoxious military bases with excessive aircraft pollution and a bunch of horny guys raping the locals.

In the past 50 years, Iowa's population has remained about the same but the rest of the USA has doubled.

A lot of it has to do with your priorities. You said something about lack of pro sports teams...I could not care less about sports myself..no offense to you.

Most people prefer Iowa because it is a decent place to raise a family. You don't have to worry that your kid is going to get stabbed or never learn to read. Growing up in Iowa, I have noticed that it has helped on the resume. People in in Midwest have a reputation of being well-educated and hard working. If you apply for jobs on the West coast...you'll notice that.

I agree that there is little to do here. I go to Chicago 3 or 4 times a year it is only about 4 1/2 hours for me. I go there to have some fun.

Because I would prefer not to use my cell phone for nothing but emergency services when I'm paying $100/month for service. Considering I've used my phone for an actual emergency once in the past year, that would be a lot of wasted money.

Really you want another Bush? Learn how to spell and then you can post. My grandfather would be proud that I have a mind and I get to use it. My grandfather would never be ashamed of me. He may disagree with me but be proud that I express my opinion. If your grandfather is ashamed of you that's your issue.
