Shucks.

Does this publication have a title, a topic, a targeted demographic?
Is this a "newsstand" quality publication or a typical neighborhood "advert-article" publication?

"We publish about every other month... "
Have you ever actually published before... I see no mention of existing design templates, fonts etc. being supplied or what software these items exist in.
If you want this project completed "in a couple of weeks" those things need to exist now.
However, "The look of the magazine can be copied from current newstand magazines, and should be very attractive and tasteful." suggests that this publication has no existing design.

Then again, laying out 25 pages of articles, 50 pages of ads plus a 25 page directory in 20 hours (@25/hr = $ 500 for the job) suggests that this might be done in MS Word by an office temp.

Hire a designer to consult with the planning of your publication.

We are seeking help for our local magazine, to layout the ads and the content.


Please do not respond if you are looking for $50 an hour or some other figure in that range....

We are looking to pay between $15-25 an hour. Here are the details:

We publish a 100 page magazine. Half of which are ads that are print ready. The other 25% is a directory and the other 25% are articles.

It will be your job to import the directory and format it. As well as to design the articles. The content will be provided to you, but you will need to get images (will pay for stock images).

We publish about every other month, and need someone to do this project in a couple of weeks. The directory and articles can be supplied to you in advance. The ads come in last minute, and once we close the magazine, we will have a week or so to lay out the ads and go to publishing.

It is not a big job, as we can work with templates for the general layout. The look of the magazine can be copied from current newstand magazines, and should be very attractive and tasteful.

But we do need someone with:
1) Expertise in this area
2) Good design taste
3) Someone QUICK and EFFICIENT and EASY TO WORK WITH


To qualify for this position, please supply the following (due to overwhelming response we cannot reach out to you if any items are missing, and you will not get the job)

I would love to know what that would consist of. Probably a free t-shirt. Don't be fooled by this bullshit offer of "valuable experience". They require you to have extensive knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator already, so, at least half of the items they list that you will gain experience in—you will already be familiar with! (e.g. color separation, vectorizing, etc.) All they really want is slave labor and to be able to pick your creative brain for next to nothing in compensation. If they were going to pass on extensive knowledge of those applications, maybe they could be given the benefit of the doubt. But, as it stands the only thing you'll gain is the gas money per week it takes you to get there.

Primordial gaming company looking for artist(s) (Hamilton, NJ)

Gaming company in its infancy is looking for artists to contribute to games in production. Great exposure for college grads and up-and-comers. There are currently three different titles in production, and each requires a different kind of art. Here's a quick synopsis of what'll be needed for each project:

1) Classic fantasy art, black and white, ink prefered, but pencil-drawings that are clean enough to be photoshopped into appearing inked also acceptable. In addition black and white, clipart icons will also need to be designed. A total of 25 fantasy art pieces will currently be required, 30 pieces of clipart will be required. If you have another media you'd prefer to work in for the fantasy art, contact us, we'll discuss it with you.

2) Black-on-white images, clipart, in addition to various map-icon illustrations (in color, but very simple, they must be recognizable in a 2" space)

3) Cartoons, in particular full color depictions of birds like Road Runner (WB) or the dancing ostriches in Fantasia (not expecting anything nearly as detailed, but a good example)
