The brakes for my front tire aren't working. When I squeeze the brake handle, I get no response. There appear to be some loose parts on the brake cord.

My bike is my main mode of transportation. I really need to get it fixed.

GT Bravado LE Single Speed 18" (Columbia) $200

I built this bike up out of spare parts to see if I would like having a single speed. I loved it so much I'm going to buy a brand new one. SS's are extremely low maintenance and operator friendly.

Frame is 18", steel, and has a really cool top tube that hides the cable routing. I'm 6'2" and this frame is a little too small for me.
Dropouts are vertical so I bought a single speed conversion kit and used a rear derailleur to tension the chain.
Rear derailleur is Shimano Deore and is fully functional if you ever decide to use it for its intended purpose.
Gearing is 16:32, great for getting around downtown or cruising the trail and low enough for climbing monster hills.
Rear wheel is double walled and works with 8 speed cassettes.
Front wheel is a little older and is single walled.
Both wheels have quick release. Kona seatpost clamp needs an allen wrench to adjust.
Tires are 26 x1.5 WTB Slickasaurus and both of them have tuffy liners installed.
Crankset is Bontrager Race with heavy duty bashguard.
Brakes are Tektro.
Saddle is WTB.
Threadless fork with Aheadset.

Negotiations will begin at $200.

Trek 7300 FX (Columbia, MO) $300

I am selling a 15" Trek 7300 FX bike. This is considered a Hybrid and is great off and on road. This bike was riden mainly on the Katy trail, but was also riden one day in the MS 150. The back tire is flat, will most likely need a new tube or tire. Either way, you should be able to take it to Walt's and get it replaced for $25. I have adjusted the price accordingly. This is a $450 bike with Shimano Deore rear derailleur and Shimano FD-C102 front derailleur. This is a very lightweight bike. You will not be disappointed in this bike, it is in very good condition!

Schwinn Sprint Frame & Extras (N. of Downtown) $40

Hi,

I got a Schwinn Sprint at the MU surplus auction about 6 months back intending to fix it up. Then school started and now I have no time to do something wonderful to it. (Thanks, school.)

This is an early 80s Schwinn Sprint. It comes with fork, headset, stem, shifters, bars, brake levers (cheaters!), front brake, saddle & post, crank, and some cables. All of them are original and in pretty good condition. I believe it's a 56cm, as the standover is 32"-33". I'm 6'1" and it fits me well.
The frame itself has a few scratches, and the fork does too. It's not in 100% cosmetic shape, but it's structurally great.

This bike would make a great winter beater/fixed conversion project since it has notably long horizontal dropouts.

Price is $40 OBO. I'd like to sell this by Friday because my house is tiny and I'm tired of tripping over this every morning and reminding myself I have no time for fun.

Here's a rear wheel I don't really need anymore.

It's a Shimano Altus 8-speed hub with an 11-32 Hyperglide cassette laced to a Matrix 550 rim. It's a 26" and can comfortably take 2.5" tires.
It's true (as compared to "out of true"). There's a little scratch on the skewer. It's got rim tape. It's a tank.
It's in pretty good condition, with maybe 70 commuter miles on it.

Price is $25 OBO. I'd like to sell it by Friday because I'm going out of town for the weekend and need the money.

Western Flyer made for Western Auto stores by AMF. This is a green Galaxy Flyer model. It may be from the 1960s. A picture I found on the internet from the 60s looks very similar, and the chrome chainguard also suggests a 60s date. However, I cannot confirm that. If it were provably from the 60s, it would be worth at least $100. It is in excellent condition. Original green paint with white trim. The tires look good, but I'm sure they are not original. Also, I cannot vouch for them as this bike has been stored for several years, and although there is no visible "age marks," the tires might not have much life left. This might be the bike you had as a child -- or perhaps the bike you wanted but couldn't afford as a child. If needed, delivery could be arranged at a modest charge to cover gasoline.

Vintage Nishiki Prestige Equipe 56/57cm road bike (Kirksville) $170

I'm selling my Nishiki Prestige road bike. It is in great condition for it's age (late 80s) and has all the great characteristics of a classic steel road bike. I've refinished it by painting the lugs red to match the accents (it's a pearl white frame with orangish red accents) and putting on new Kenda Konstrictor tires ($40) and Nitto Noodle ($50) handlebars. It still has some scuffs but the bike is almost 20 years old so that is expected. The bike is a 56-57cm I believe so it should fit someone between 5'6" and 6'1". It has Ovaltech chainrings, diacompe brakes, and is made of 4130 cromoly. The picture below is not the actual bike but very similar. Hybrid Bike (columbia) $175

I have a hybrid bike that is in great condition except for the rusted chain and the exposed/unpainted metal that rusted when I left it out too long last fall. It still has new tires on it because shortly after I bought the bike I began having cardiac problems that prevented me from doing any aerobic exercise and we just figured out that I won't ever be able to ride again. TREK 850 1980's USA Built Quality (Columbia downtown) $125

This bike is a 1980 something TREK Model 850. The top tube height is 28.5 inches from floor. Bike should fit someone about 5 1/2 feet tall. This is my wife's bike, she is 5' 7" and it fits her OK. The bike was built in the mid 80's by honest-to-gosh cheeseheads in Waterloo, WI, USA. The components are high quality and are in great shape. The tires, chain, seat and sprockets all look good. The frame has a lot of scratches in the paint, and there is some rust. Bike is super-clean, oiled, ready-to-go. This bike really deserves a new paint job and would be a great restoration project. Matching 1980's-Vintage Men's & Women's 10-Speeds... (Columbia, MO) $150

I have a pair of matching Huffy 10-speeds for sale, one men's model and one women's model. I believe they were manufactured in 1982 and 1983, according to the serial numbers. These bikes are practically new old stock -- the paint, chrome, saddles and grips are nearly perfect. Email me for more and/or higher-resolution pics.

I've completely overhauled the bottom-brackets and headsets. All of the hardware has been disassembled, thoroughly degreased and cleaned, repacked with modern, synthetic grease, then reassembled. I replaced the brake and gear cables (although I kept some of the original yellow cable housing -- it just looks cool and matches the other graphics), as well as the brake pads, tubes, and tires. The original chains were essentially new -- I just cleaned and re-oiled them.

Caveats: I originally rebuilt these last summer (2008) and I haven't looked at them too closely in the meantime. I'm a self-taught/amateur mechanic, so there are a number of things I'd recommend you have examined at your local bike shop. Check out the following: Shifting and cable tension, spoke tension, brake-toe and overall fit. I don't have the seat/top-tube dimensions available, but I can get them for you. These certainly aren't extra-large frames, although they are freakishly sturdy (and heavy -- these are old Huffys, after all).

I'm in Saint Joseph, Missouri, but the bikes are with my brother in Columbia because it's a MUCH better market for this type of bike. I have a ton of other vintage bikes in various stages of restoration, so if this isn't what you're looking for, feel free to contact me about the others (Schwinn, AMF, Raleigh, etc.). All of my bikes are the cycle-equivalent of "clear title", meaning that I never buy bikes with hinky histories. Many come from estate sales, actually. I've said "No" to more than one alluring bike because its history was unconvincing.

FREE Huffy Bike (outside 400 Mimosa Ct.)

I just got a new bike, so I am trying to get rid of my old one. It's really a piece of crap (brakes/gears don't work very well, there is excessive rust, etc), but it's yours for free if you want it. As crappy as this bike is, I was riding it until yesterday. If you like to live on the edge and take unnecessary risks, this is the bike for you! I have left it leaning against the outside of the apartment building at 400 Mimosa Ct. This is on East Campus, right off of University. The bike is bright blue.
