I'm a young woman moving to south Columbia on New Year's and am available for babysitting! I was a teacher's aide (for 1st grade) in high school and my dad was a Methodist minister, so I was also a church babysitter and VBS teacher. I will be moving to Columbia on November 27th, the day after Thanksgiving, and am looking for immediate work in my new city! To give a brief idea about me: I have a master's degree and 2+ years of childcare experience, including sitting for a special needs child (severe autism). He was the only single child I cared for; usually I watched multiples. I was also a K-5 teacher's aide during grad school. I am a non-smoker and non-drinker with my own SUV, perfect driving record, and I love baking, movies, pets, and most of all - reading! I will be living on the south side of the city, near Nifong.

I am infant, child and adult CPR/first aid/AED certified by the American Heart Association. To start out, I would request $8 to watch one child and $10 for two. That is low for someone with my experience, but I think it's fair as I am new to the area - if it turned into a more permanent arrangement I'm sure we could work something out! I am willing to do meal prep, light housework and pet care, etc. and of course transportation to or from school or daycare.

After 6 months of continued care I offer my parents 3 free days. If your child is sick and you can't bring them you have a total of 3 free days where tuition is not charged. You will continue to get 3 more days every 6 months. If you fail to use your 3 days during one 6 month period they are considered lost.

I charge $100/week per child. I do offer multiple family discounts. I do accept part time and drop ins as well at $25/ a day. Weekends with prior arragements $30/day.

Looking for Daycare (St.Thomas/Wardsville)

I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old I need to find a RELAIBLE sitter for. We dont have a very large income so $80 a week per child is the most we can afford and still have money for food and bills each week. We have been through 3 sitters in the past year-one decided to start working again, one was horrible and made my oldest cry and locked the kids in one room all day and the last one is always wanting off. We have a very cheap sitter now but you pay for what you get I guess....Contantly having to take off and answer the multiple text messages and phone calls is not saving us money by any means, infact its to the point where I am about to lose my job. RE: working on the computer (Columbia )

Defensive much? I think asking your provider if they work from home or use the computer while caring for your child is a perfectly reasonable question. How do you know she isn't posting from work since her post is "during typical child care hours"?

It seems like you have some issues with some of the parents not paying on time or you not being able to make ends meet so you justify working on the computer. You need to set solid policies and if the parents don't meet them, send them on. You chose who to work with as a provider just like parents chose who their provider is. Parents have every right to know what is going on while they are away though so if they want to know if you use the computer during childcare then what is the problem with them asking? Doesn't mean you can't, just means you should say, "Yeah, I do during nap time." What is the big deal? Parents are looking for care providers that meet their needs and hopefully care providers are honest with parents so everyone can find a good, happy fit. Isn't that goal that everyone here is trying to meet?

By the way, did you ever think to ask if the mother was in a facility with only her child? Was she regularly late for pick up and not dependable on a drop off time, if so, did she even get slapped with late fees? Did she perhaps pay for child care late and was not a dependable paycheck? There is a lot to take into consideration, and perhaps you aren't doing the other provider/providers justice in making such statements online. Perhaps the woman did work a job in addition to child care to make ends meet, but avoided doing so during hours of child care? Perhaps the woman was getting a special rate? Perhaps she actually even asked for help with computer stuff from time to time.

I guess my point is, I would not want someone typing when they should be providing care to my child; but as a provider, my after and before hours time is mine and I would not want someone telling me I could not do what I wanted to do with those or that I could not see about possible meets with parents during naps.
