re Drier Balls

Tennis balls work just as well. I actually keep 2 drier balls and 2 tennis balls in my drier. Lotta thumpin goin on, but yes, it cuts down on drying time, it helps soften, and it also thumps more lint/hair/crap off of items, too.

Drier balls

Don't "go there" about your balls guys, ok? SERIOUSLY! :) lol BUT::::::::::

Are you all aware that you can purchase "drier balls" that are used during your drying cycle? These cut down on drying time as they bounce the damp out of the items, thus saving energy and money, and they assist in softening the items as well. They are INEXPENSIVE and can be found at Walmart, K-Mart, etc. for under 5 bux.

Shoes in Dryer

Could be no one opened the door to the dryer that had your shoes. I know when I try to dry my son's shoes in my home dryer the shoes will kick the dryer door open themselves. I have even tried to put something heavy in front of the door only to check the dryer layer to fine the door open again.

I was doing laundry earlier and at 2:30 a.m. when I was taking out my last load of laundry and my shoes and putting them in the dryer to dry, I found that my shoes were still soapy, so I put them back in the washer for another cycle. At 3:00, I moved them to the dryer. At 4 a.m. I came down stairs after struggling to keep my eyes open for that extra hour to find my dryer door open. Curious, I thought to myself, it appears that all the other 9 dryers are empty, so I do not know why someone would open my dryer door. However, then I see that they had been taken out and thrown back in. They are still soaking wet and cold. I don't have the energy to stay up for another 1 hour load, so instead they will just air dry and will end up with a musty smell that was precisely the reason that I was washing them for. So, I have now wasted about $5 and 2 hours of time that I could have spent sleeping all for nothing thanks to you.

Ask DESE and the US Dept. of Education about the pros and cons of working through an attorney. If you accept an offer from school that is less than satisfactory, it may possibly impact your case in a court of law, should you choose to pursue it further.

Another good resource: Missouri Protection and Advocacy Services. They're not your first bet for a school case, but they're worth calling. Their focus is on persons with disabilities. Federally mandated program. www.moadvocacy.org

The most important thing is to get others involved in your son's situation. You are doing the right thing as a parent in asking for advice and help wherever you can get it. Missouri Protection is who I found to be the most helpful when my son was being screwed by Fulton's Public school system. There # is 1-800-392-8667, you have to leave a recording about your situation and they will return you call to let you know whether they can help you. They will help you. Their office is located in Jefferson City but they will come to you. The will go to the school with you and help you fight for his rights. If things are bad, enough they have attorneys that will also defend your son's rights. They go by your income so the fees are not as expensive as an outside attorney is. There is also an agency called IMPACT that I have heard is very helpful. I am sure you can locate them on the internet. Document every contact (phone, written, or in person) that you have with anyone regarding your son.

It sounds like the teacher was trying to cover their a$$ and put the blame on your son. If it was a weapon, maybe it should have been locked up, maybe they should have all been accounted for at the end of class, and maybe it should have been reported when it was noticed to be missing. What if someone took one of those tools and hurt someone? Would the school be liable for handing them out to everyone? What if a child were to injure their self on purpose? Would it be the schools fault? They need to be more accountable for the weapons that they are providing to students.

You have the right, under federal law, to examine any and all school records that pertain to your child. School has the right to ask for a nominal, reasonable fee, if you want a copy. Google FERPA for more information. If school denies you the right to see the records on request, tell them you are exercising your legal rights under FERPA. That's enough to get their attention.

Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education's Special Education division has several staff who can advise you on your son's situation, as well as tell you what steps you should consider next. I've found them extremely helpful, and they do listen to parents. Start with DESE first. The site has a toll-free number. dese.mo.gov

The US Dept. of Education has a regional office in Kansas City. I don't remember the name of the gentleman I spoke with regarding a SpEd concern here, but he was wonderful. If there is a civil rights concern, e.g., discrimination against students with disabilities, this is a good office to contact.

Wrightslaw.com is an excellent site for any information regarding SpEd advocacy and legal rights. They have great articles on how to work with school, what to do when IEPs are problematic or not followed, parent advocacy, etc.

I've gone to meetings with a friend as an observer/note taker; this leaves me free to concentrate on discussion. You can also bring a tape recorder, if you want an accurate record of any school meeting. Some will tell you that it can antagonize staff. Just tell school that your handwriting is iffy, you want to make sure you understand what they tell you, and always offer to provide a copy of the tape at your expense. If they tell you it's not allowed, bull. You have the right under state and federal law.

If your son has an IEP you should also look into the schools responsibilites with that. IDK exactly what the tems are, but the school is to follow it to the letter. Perhaps there is something in his IEP that can be related to this incident.
You should have received a packet of information after the last IEP meeting. As a parent, you have the right to ask for another copy.

Moberly middle school (Moberly Mo)

My child attends Moberly middle school and was recently suspended for a concealed weapon. He is 11 years old. He was in art class last quarter and was working on a project that required the use of a scraping tool the school has both metal and plastic tools for this. The class was short on the plastic tools so he used a metal one, (the teacher saw him use it throughout the class) when the class was over my son forgot to return the tool and it ended up in his locker. weeks later my son found it in his locker while he and his locker partner were cleaning it out they took it to turn it in right away and when doing so my son was suspended under the rule that he had a weapon.

There are more than a few problems with this.

1 My son has an i.e.p. and it was understood that he is very forgetful and has to be reminded to bring or leave stuff as needed.

2 The art teacher told him that he should have never had the tool as the metal ones are for 8th graders but she has to keep tabs on my son to be sure he stays on task in class so why did she let him get away with using a tool that was deemed unsafe by their rules?

3 My son and his locker partner turned it in, he wasn't "caught" with it.

4 My son has as I said an I.E.P. that explains his slow and sometimes spacey movement when he should stay on task, so when he was cleaning out his locker i was surprised to find it was because he had been tardy and he was being punished for it.

So in closing I would like to know why was this tool a weapon when he returned it and not a weapon when this teacher let him use it? isn't this person and the school guilty of endangering my child by letting him use this tool (weapon) as they call it, and accidentally walk out of class with it? I feel my child has been wrongfully accused of this and is now suffering due to a teacher and principals bad and unfair judgment. These people know that my son also suffers from panic disorder he was very scared to let anyone know he made this mistake for fear just this sort of thing would happen. I do plan to seek legal council on this matter as well as reach out to the community by use of the Internet and other means for help and support on this .

I have already sent a copy of this letter to the board of education and am waiting on a responce.

Finally, I would be happy if I never read "big=tight, skinny=loose" again. It may very well be true, but I (and I think most other people are in the same boat) don't care. Health insurance should be like auto insurance, based on your health level. If you are a good driver , don't get tickets, avoid accidents, rates are usually pretty inexpensive. If you are obese, smoke, etc....it shoud be treated like DWIs, multiple accidents and violations.

I met a girl out there a few years ago and she turned out to be more than I could handle so it did NOT work out. lol. Since I got a chance to travel out there, I had a chance to ride around, get to know the place. I even moved there for a short time. From someone who doesn't live there, I noticed you guys have some things to appreciate. We have a thing here called traffic and rush hour. When I was out there, you guys really don't have bad traffic. Be thankful. We have every race you can imagine and where I live if you're white, blacks don't care for you at all and they dare you to mess with them. Sometimes the dare thing doesn't work out for them. You guys have fresh air, open spaces, lots with some space on them (acreage). I liked the hills and the winding roads. Life seemed a little slower there. These Large out of shape people are driving my medical costs up. It's been proven over and over that obese (and many of you that just think you are plump are, by medical and gov't standards Obese) require up to 60. You press against me in airplane and theater seats because you can't fit in a normal size chair. I have to manuver around you at WalMart as you take up over half the isle as you waddle around, or worse yet sit your carcass in a motorize seat because your too lazy to waddle around. And then they door my vehicle trying to get the door of theirs open wide enough to SQUEEZE into their car. So they are effecting me negatively.

And yes they have attacked my wife on may occasions, verbaly. After a quarter century of marriage, two kids, she is an extremely fit, athletic size 2. She looks nothing like 12 yr old boy, still has plenty of curves. And a real man, none that I know of, would go after a "real size woman", doesn't that mean FAT. Figure out a different way folks, its your money, save a little longer and you can find the same quality of vehicle for thousands less, and pay cash for it. Do the research folks, they will tell you anything to get you to bend over, please stand up and walk away, dont let them rape you............I think the car below they had marked for 12500, you could pay it off in 4 years at 450 per month 30% interest probably too.

I totally agree about them being rip-offs!! I was (am) one of the foolish ones who had purchased a vehicle from them. But I have bad credit and just had my 4th baby at the time, had gotten out of a bad situation, so I did what I had to do. I have put so much money into the van in the 2 yrs I have had it than any other car I had owned. And this one I had to pay more for then the new Mitsubishi I had at one point. I needed the van, so I did what I had to do. I do think it is ridiculous that they make you sign that if you are 1 day late they can repo it. But I only owe 2000 more and will not default for any reason. This stupid thing cost me 13,000. And as soon as this thing is paid off-I will continue to put my car payment in the bank, so when this van breaks completely down, I will have the money to just buy a cheaper used car, that runs decently. And I would never recommend them to anyone! But I also need my van, so I will be sure to finish paying it off, and run it til it wont run anymore.

I always thought that me being bigger was a disease, and I had to feed my disease in order to keep it at bay, or genetics, but I was the only 1 in my family that was fat, or maybe big boned and big assed. Guess it was just laziness and not eating the right foods. Put down the fork, drink more water, eat less sugar and carbs, and get off that "coach" aka couch. (BTW, FYI to the 1st poster, you're a tard and need to learn to proof read your postings before you click Continue) (and if in fact you do proof read, perhaps I might suggest night classes for remedial spelling) Back on topic... Everyone can lose weight and not be fat, lazy, out of shape people. But I think not just telling people they are fat but helping them try to become thinner would help too. Instead of just saying they are disgusting, why not post helpful ways they can lose weight. Perhaps some women or even men, do not know how to lose weight. This is part of how I lost weight.

1. Set a weight loss goal. Tell your friends and family, I'm sure everyone knows people who want to lose a few lbs too and do it together. Get a support group

2. At dinner, instead of filling up your plate and scarfing it down then filling up more. Fix 1 that's ONE plate of food and that's all. Put what you want on the 1st filling and leave it, don't go back for 2nds and in some cases 3rds. Which means stay out of all buffet restaurants, and no fast food. If you don't know how to cook, get a cook book and learn. If you burn the chicken the 1st time, good, less food to eat, fill up on salad.

3. Stop eating carbs, and sugars, no bread and butter, potatoes, noodles, cakes, cookies, etc...

4. Eat more vegetables. An ideal dinner for you starting out would be 4oz meat, 2 servings of veg.

5. Eat slower, chew your food, enjoy the taste. Eating fast does not fill you up faster, you will still be hungry and wanting more.

6. If you must snack during the day do it with something healthy, not 100 calorie cookies or other junk.

I agree with most of what you've said, but you forgot to elimiante ALCOHOL. Major empty calories in booze, and usually you end up eating while you drink so double whammy.

And when you have the choice of an elevator or stairs, take the stairs, park away from the store, never shop hungry.

Eat a LARGE salad, with little or fat free dressing, before the main meal, lettuce and such have few calories and fill you up so you don't eat the other carp that's bad for you.

And there is a medically supervised weight loss program in Mid MO. with a high success rate. With all of the news coverage, it's not hard to find out how to loose weight, it's hard doing it. You have to really want to change your lifestyle to loose the weight. Watch Biggest Loser, these people dump the weight and it's nothing you cant do at home. It is a choice. Proper diet is the main key, drop some weight, then start exercising. There are plenty of low impact or no impact exercises of you have knee or joint problems, some you can do sitting down. GOOGLE IT. Another big key is DON'T EAT OUT AT ALL. There are so few menu items that are actually healthy it's sad. If you have to eat out and you can't pack a lunch from home, get the book "Eat This, Not That". there is also the book Calorie KING. Many people eat enough calories for breakfast to last the entire day.

And yes I do find it disgusting personally. Biology dictates preferences in a mate. These are based on body shape, we are geneticly programed to be attacted to the oposite sex that appears to be a good choice to have offspring with, hip to waist ratios etc. If you are shaped like a beach ball with legs, it doesn't trigger this innate urge. So now that your proportions are in a favorable ratio, men are attracted to you as a possible mate, you are projecting the image of a healthy mate. Thats biology baby. I don't fight it. I've only known one person that was medically obese. I watched his intake of food, and it was proper, his body turned almost everything into fat, doctors tried everything and couldn't isolate the problem, he died at 21 of a heart attack. Yes he was a friend, we hung with him and tried to help him, he was in that 2%, but Wal Mart is filled with the rest that just eat crap, and thier idea of exercise is walking to the fridge. Elipticals and bicycles have very little impact on knees so use those as opposed to trying to jog or even power walk.

As a former fat woman, I appreciate those who are willing to look past the exterior and see the individual inside. I had been overweight my whole life and picked on, shunned, embarrassed, discriminated against, etc. No, this was not a choice! There was no part of me that WANTED this.

So many times I would seek help, only to be told casually to watch what I ate and exercise. One of the problems is, when you're that big, your energy is often down (if you want the reasons why, ask, I'll let ya know!). Then just get out and exercise. Nothing to it really. I'd love to see you get out with a 120 pound person on your back and go jog around the block a few times. Pair that up with painful knees, high blood pressure, and any of the many various problems, and it is no longer just a simple matter or getting up off of the couch.

With medical help, I was eventually able to lose 165 pounds. I went from wearing a size 24 to a size 6. I've kept it off for over 2 years now. The difference is absolute night and day. I CAN go out and exercise now. I have so much more energy. My joints don't hurt and my blood pressure is normal and I don't have doctors telling me not to break a sweat for fear that I'll explode.

One of the weird problems I do have now is MEN. The sleezy, superficial jerks who hit on me now. The ones not willing to look past the outside to see what was on the inside. I guess they never change. Only now instead of shunning me, they're hitting on me. They don't care that I'm a real person with feelings and heart. They see a figure which is now more petite than the average and seem to think it is free game.

I can understand liking one body type over another. I do. I did back then too! I've never been a huge fan of little toothpick guys or those shorter than me. But I've also known some who were absolutely amazing people and I adored them for who they were. And I'm thankful that I didn't have my head crammed so far up my FAT BUTT that I couldn't see past the outside. I would have missed out on something truely special.

I find fat women disgusting. Less than 2% of obesity is due to medical issues. The rest is due to lack of exercise and TOO MUCH FOOD. There are just as many bitchy ass fat women as skinny women. What is sexy about flab, rolls, an ass that looks like two pigs fighting in a gunny sack, someone too lazy to take care of herself. That isn't a judgement, that is a fact.
