nukes and wind power (hv)

Even if the government produces clean energy, you know they are going to charge the hell out of us. Look at the new taxes they are putting or trying to put on soda and some foods.
I just got an MTA federal tax bill LOL. I don't even go to the city or use the NYC roads or trains or buses. I live up here and don't go out of the county. This is insane.

I saw these wind power things they are trying to develop that could go onto everyone's house roof. I would put anything on top of my house if it would lower my electric
and heating costs. I don't care about turbines ruining the landscape.

I also saw Housecall on TV where you ask the DR questions. Someone said they would move to
Arizona to avoid the allergies and asthma they get here. The doctor said there are allergies all over the place - at all times of the year. So moving isn't going
to help allergies I guess. But there are people who don't have allergies or asthma except when they are exposed to wood smoke. I think that's what that
other person was saying. Wood smoke made them sick. Nothing else. So I guess they'd have to move to where there was no wood smoke and they would
be ok. But to me, it's a tricky situation, to make someone move because of something a neighbor is doing. There has to be a way to compromise. But one
thing for sure, you're not going to compromise with the electric company etc. and there is so much opposition to nuclear plants. Environmentalists
don't want them. People don't want turbines on their horizon. All there is is arguing and fighting.

I AGREE ! But they charge way too much per btu. If it was not so expensive , everything would be electric already ..I would still have wood to use ...just to help or a back up. This could be done already but politics have made way to much red tape. Most people don't understand. We are years from more nuke plants. and it will not work out unless they beat the cost of all the other fuels. So for now I'm going to stay with my trusty wood stove. Out of all the discussions both for and against all the fuels ,yours would be the best plan (with some wind and solar depending where you live)...if we could get them built in YOUR BACK YARD, lower cost ...allot ! I wish you good luck ! You know you will still have Mr asthma and the environmentalist crying just the same. The wind will still blow in there direction at some time. If they are afraid of wood smoke how do you think they will respond to a nuke plant ?

Check this out: One nuclear power plant creates enough waste to fill a box that would fit under your desk. This small amount of waste is sealed and transported around the country every day. People just aren't aware of it, so there's no problem.

Nuclear power creates no green house gases.

Imagine if we did switch to nuclear power. Homes could be heated with clean electricity instead of oil, or gas. Electric cars would be fueled by sources that required no carbon. We could reduce our green house gases by more than 60% in a short time. WE WOULDN'T NEED WOOD BURNING AT ALL!!! So what excuse would you have then????

However, this technology is stopped because of the vocal demand of misguided environmentalists and people scared of modern technology.


As long as they are properly maintained. The only real emissions nuclear power plants have is the spent fuel. However, that can be re-refined a couple times then placed in a long term storage facility like Yucca mountain. Other than that, all you really have to worry about is a little steam. When properly maintained and operated, nuclear plants are cleaner and safer than almost every other form of power plant. The threat of a terrorist attack on a nuclear power plant is actually very low. Your garden variety suicide bomber wouldn't be able to get past the front gate, let alone cause a disaster. Even an inside job (maybe intentionally causing a meltdown) would be almost impossible. It would take at least a decade to get an operative in such a position that he could do something like that. In that time, the cell would probably be caught. If somehow they are not caught, the combination of highly trained engineers, scientists and anal-retentive safety precautions would hamper any effects of the attack (or any other accident for that matter).

Nuclear energy is incredibly safe and has almost no emissions.
