i'm a solo acoustic singer-songwriter. i've got 2 1/2 hours of original music all polished up. i've just moved back to the ithaca area and i'm trying to get into the scene around here, but am, as of yet, unheard of. i am booking shows by myself, but i thought another great way to get going and meet some other musicians in the process would be to open some shows for other groups. right now, i'm willing to work for dirt cheap; i just really am itching to get playing out.

i would describe my music to be a folk/ rock/ blues amalgamation. first and foremost i'm a songwriter so the music is very lyrically based. my big influences, among others are: Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Towns Van Zandt, and lately i've really been digging Elvis Perkins (check him out if you haven't yet!)

Hi, my name's Cliff Hodson, 19, and I play drums. I have samples of my playing and I am really really motivated to take music as far as I can in life. I really want to make it my job. I wouldn't say I am the best drummer ever...but I can say that I can hold my own and I do study out of drum books and work very hard at what I do. I do know how to play double pedal but I don't play everything using it, only when it is needed.

My favorite type of genre is probably stuff along the lines of Chevelle, Trapt, Killswitch Engage, Breaking Benjamin, but I am currently learning new styles of drumming and plan to attend SUNY OCC for drum set this coming fall. I have good gear, mics and good work ethic.

guitar lessons (Cortland)

Hello, my name is Chris. I'm 23 and am a full time student at Cortland. I have been playing guitar for about 7 years now and am entirely self taught. I played trumpet for 7 years as well, and also have taken several music theory college classes, so I am well versed in reading/writing music and in music theory. I can teach acoustic/electric and bass guitar. I am confident I can relay many of the techniques I used to teach myself guitar, in other words, I can teach someone how to teach themself how to play. I'd like to start off with just beginner/intermediate lessons. I am willing to work with any genre of music. I am also willing to work with both children and adults; I've worked as a camp counseler for several summers if it helps put the mind of parents at ease. I have no problem traveling as long as it is within reasonable distance; depending on how far I might have to factor in money for gas into my fee. I am not entirely sure what to even charge yet, prices will be negotiable and depend on the length of the lesson. So shoot me an email and we'll talk.

Guitarist starting rock/fusion instrumental band - $ possibly involved (Ithaca/Cornell)

I'm an electric guitarist starting an instrumental rock/fusion band in Ithaca. Looking specifically for bass and drums right now, but possibly also keyboards or a second guitarist if there's someone around who is interested.

I have a place to practice and a lot of ideas for tunes. Mostly looking for other players around town who can play big and want to start something hard-driving.

I grew tired of playing in bands that made me fit a role I was unhappy with, so I'd prefer to take control of most operations as far as responsibilities for finding gigs, picking set lists, etc. Some of this can be negotiated, but in return for this control, I'd be willing to pay you a very modest amount for each gig played. Any age is welcome--I'm 25. All I ask is that you can play well and learn somewhat advanced music, have your own gear, practice once or twice a week, and want to play out around town eventually. Acoustic jams and music newsletter ... (Ithaca and surrounding area)

Hello -

I just wanted to let folks know about this ... especially if you are new in town! :-) I run a weekly instrumental acoustic folk jam on Wednesday nights every week. This jam has been going for about 6 years. We play fiddle dance tunes: Celtic, Irish, English, New England, French Canadian, and some American southern Old-time ... (suitable for contra and square dancing). We also on occasion play waltzes and hambos. All instruments welcome! We are often short of guitars. :-)

This is multi-skill level jam, where the tunes are played usually (not always) slower than dance speed for learning purposes. Sheet music and MP3's available for further study ... We welcome new musicians :-)

I also run a music email list (E-NEWSLETTER) of local acoustic events - including lots of other open jams in the area and listening opportunities. The volume is about one message per week-DAY (4 or 5 messages per week). Some of the other regular jams I list (besides mine) are southern old-time, traditional bluegrass, singing, Irish, Celtic and Old English also occasional open band opportunities for acoustic instruments. I also list gigs that folks send my way when they are looking for musicians ...

Need Supporting Vocals and/or guitar for your next gig or record? (ithaca)

Hi guys,

I'm a twenty-something female in the Ithaca area interested in getting more experience in the local music scene. I'm a solid guitar player (primarily fingerstyle) and vocalist, most comfortable in the alto range but flexible. I have songs of my own and some solo gigging experience, but my primary goal right now is just to get more experience playing second fiddle (or rather, guitar) and singing harmonies, which has always been my favorite thing in the world. I'm not looking for pay...maybe a brew or a bagel?

I have a lot of formal and informal training, and have sung both alone on stage, and as a part of several very different groups. My personal style leans toward folky, rootsy music; stuff like Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show, Chris Pureka, and Gregory Alan Isakov. But I'm very adaptable, learn songs quickly, and can intuit good harmonies on the spot.

505 BLUES CD PARTY! (The Haunt)

505 Blues is fast becoming a hit with local fans since its
inception in 2007. They have commanded larger and larger crowds
filling the floor with dancers who can't get enough of the bands
infectious grooves. The
505 sound is reminiscent of great bar band rock, full of searing
guitar, harmonica and keyboard leads. Veterans of the music scene, 505
includes, Jacob Crawford on lead guitar and vocals, Don Fenton on
harmonica and vocals, Dennis Montgomery on keys, Donald Specker on
Bass and Russ Maracle on drums and vocals. Opening for national acts
such as Johnny Winter and Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, 505 fills a
void in the Blues scene, with a sound that is a departure from the usual fare.
Tight and masterful licks, along with powerful stage presence,
make a 505 Blues show something not to be missed. With a great mix of
original songs and more obscure blues covers, 505 emanates a unique
talent, and the large fan base is proof of that fact.
Their first CD, " Got It Bad" recorded at Ithaca's own Pyramid
Sound Studio, will be officially released to the public on February
26th, at The Haunt, starting at 7:00 pm. This promises to be a special occasion!
505 will perform songs from the new album, along with fan favorites
that always fill the dance floor, so mark your calendars! No cover charge.

Singer/Songwriter Wanted (Ithaca)

Looking for a talented, creative, motivated, self-inspired singer/songwriter with a musical style that reflects influences of blues, rock, country, and soul to incorporate into a band of musicians in their early 30s who are in the early stages of developing a set of original songs. Please expect to be briefly interviewed, and be able to provide a sample of lyrics and vocal abilities. We're basically looking for someone who loves music as much as we do, enjoys the process of building songs, is vocally and lyrically talented, and is receptive to constructive criticism.
