Substance Abuse Counselor Supervisor (Los Angeles)

SUBSTANCE ABUSE SUPERVISING COUNSELOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Substance Abuse Supervising Counselor must be able to communicate effectively with clients and staff to handle challenging situations with diplomacy, while running the day-to-day operations of the program. Must be certified in substance abuse counseling and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of substance abuse treatment program. This is a part-time position in the Los Angeles area.

The supervisor has oversight of the program and staff, which includes recruitment and training, monitoring the work of the other substance abuse counselors, including: evaluation of clients’ program progress; arranging drug/alcohol testing for clients; establishing and leading 12-Step meetings and family support meetings; acts as liaison with volunteers and sponsors.

Key duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage all phases of the day-to-day operations of the program
- Supervise group and individual activities and provide quality assurance for services and service delivery.
- Supervise the staff on a daily basis in regards to performance, training, human resources and other daily functions.
- Approves time & attendance for staff
- Promote the program within the community and regional center
- Maintain and promote client census and continuity of services to consumers
- Approves and reviews timesheets and attendance records
- Conducts employee evaluations and supports employee development
- Approves and reviews client documentation and agency compliance
- Ensures that the expenditures incurred by the program are processed and consistent with the agency’s policies and procedures.
- May provide individual and/or group counseling to consumers as needed
- Facilitates performance measures as required by program contract
- Facilitates staff training and meetings

Qualifications: The Substance Abuse Counseling Supervisor must be certified. Coursework in counseling and social services field preferred. Must be experienced with 12-step counseling. Should be knowledgeable of governing regulations for outpatient Drug Medi-Cal, alcohol and drug treatment program (e.g., Title 22) Must be computer literate and able to write progress notes and treatment plans in English. Some college preferred, but not mandatory.

Work Experience: Minimum of two years experience working with substance abuse consumers and counselors in supervisory role, preferably in a social services agency.

Clearances: Must pass background DOJ, FBI and child abuse clearance. Health & TB clearance, 1st Aid/CPR required. Must meet all state mandates and requirements as set by Title 17 and Title 22. Must be able to travel, have a valid California Driver’s License, good driving record and current auto insurance.
