Project Manager
Agency: Virginia Anti Violence Project (VAVP)
Position Title: Project Manager
Role: Contractor/Consultant
Location: Open. Programs will be around Virginia, with minimal office space available in the Richmond area; some work from home may be allowed.
Reports to: Supervision Subcommittee of the VAVP Board of Directors, with one or two members providing routine supervisory contact
Compensation: $28,000 to $34,000 per year, depending on experience. We are unable to offer benefits at this time.
Work hours: 30 hours per week.
We seek a Virginia resident committed to community building with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and our allies to increase awareness, education, and successful programs to respond to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, hate crimes, and other forms of violence experienced by LGBTQ individuals in Virginia. This position is funded by a grant that extends through December 2010; an opportunity for continuing work after that date is likely but would be negotiated under a separate agreement. Primary responsibilities will be to accomplish grant deliverables on time and meeting measurable objectives, including creating training curricula, delivering trainings, assisting in the development of best practice protocols and getting those protocols implemented (see specifics below). Secondary responsibilities may include coordination of fundraising tasks, support for board of directors meetings and projects, and maintaining communications interfaces (responding to telephone calls, emails, and other inquiries, and updating portions of the website), as well as any other duties that may be mutually agreed.
This position is open until filled. We anticipate beginning the interviewing process in the first week of November. LGBTQ-identified individuals, survivors of violence, and people of color are particularly encouraged to apply.
JOB DUTIES:
• Assist in developing training curricula on violence in and against the LGBTQ community
• Coordinate, plan and lead ten multi-hour trainings per year in five regions of Virginia
• Prepare materials for trainings
• Conduct five focus groups around the state; gather and compile data
• Analyze results of trainings and focus groups
• Prepare resource guides
• Assist in developing best practice protocols for sexual and domestic violence agencies and LGBTQ organizations
• Assist in getting best practice protocols implemented by relevant bodies
• Create a survivor handbook for LGBTQ victims/survivors of violence
• Collect data and prepare quarterly grant reports
• Attend board meetings as requested
• Assist in generating/creating press releases
• Distribute press releases throughout Virginia
• Keep abreast of new grant opportunities; apply for grants
• Keep abreast of LGBTQ news in Virginia and nationwide, especially violence issues
• Assist with fundraising
• Serve as communication hub for the organization; front line for phone calls and emails
• Responsible for use of and accounting for office operating funds
• Office management
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Committed to the goals of the organization
• Background in LGBTQ and violence issues
• Effective communication skills
• Self-motivated; self-directed. Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Flexibility to shift priorities to meet various program goals on time, meeting measurable objectives
• Ability to effectively manage limited resources
• Computer skills
• Ability to travel throughout Virginia
• College education and/or equivalent work experience

• Experience as a trainer
• Grant writing experience
