Set in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains near Saranac Lake, NY, Adirondack Leadership Expeditions (ALE) provides treatment to troubled teens.

We are currently seeking a Wilderness Therapist for our licensed therapeutic wilderness program. ALE is a character development program that provides a multi-environmental approach to help struggling adolescents change unproductive beliefs about themselves and the world and promotes their personal growth through a focus on insight-oriented experiences. The forested, mountain setting removes urban distractions and simplifies options to help students gain insight into their core values and accept responsibility for their choices. As a wilderness therapist your role would entail addressing the student’s personal issues, helping our student’s overcome their self-limiting beliefs, and developing their leadership potential. As a wilderness therapist you will provide weekly individual/group psychotherapy and assessment and will be able to utilize experiential education, group dynamics, academic curricula, and conflict resolution techniques. You would teach the students how interact with staff and the other students in a more responsible and empathetic way as well as help them to learn from the natural consequences that they experience during their stay at ALE.

With a caseload of 6-8 students ranging in age from 13-17 years, the therapists will perform individual and group psychotherapy and provide weekly family consultation. The therapists will drive the therapeutic process and will ensure that clinical services are being provided. The selected candidate will provide leadership and supervision to the field team on a rotating schedule, assign outcome goals for individual students and maintain records. An ideal candidate will possess a passion for the outdoors, be tolerant of the climate, be able to work independently, as well as be able to do direct and short-term work with adolescents and possess sharp clinical skills.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Counselor works as part of a mobile team to provide family services to military members and families who are geographically isolated from military installations. The Counselor is a licensed mental health professional and provides information, coaching, training, and education to military families and service members.

The Counselor provides on-site, mobile, telephonic and/or direct short-term, non-medical, solution-focused counseling services to individuals, couples, families and groups for situations resulting from commonly occurring life circumstances such as parenting, relationship conflicts, stress, personal loss, and deployments and reunions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Partners with and augments activities of Service Family Centers, Guard and Reserve programs (including Inter-Service Family Assistance Committees), unit family support staff officers, and other programs and services to build coalitions and connect Federal, state, and local resources and non-profit organizations to support Active Duty, Guard and Reserve families

Identifies family needs
Catalogues existing family programs and supports; determines how well those efforts are meeting family needs
Identifies problems and/or gaps in service
Determines methods to fill the gaps and enhance existing support systems' efforts
Plans and implements a comprehensive, integrated, mobile service delivery system
Provides on-site, mobile, and/or telephonic non-medical problem solving counseling to families when other resources are not available and makes appropriate referrals and warm transfers to military and community resources according to the needs of families and service members
Travels throughout the state as appropriate to meet with families and unit family support staff to assess needs and provide or arrange for counseling services
Consults with and trains military commands and service providers as requested
Sponsors and trains volunteers and family support professionals

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
Master's Degree in clinically relevant field from accredited university required

Certification/License:
Fully Licensed to practice in this State at the Master's or Doctorate level as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage Family Therapist, Professional Counselor or Psychologist without restrictions or supervision at the highest independent level.

Experience:

6) Using network resources, direct vendor services and activities on referrals by outlining and communicating specific service requests and ensuring service quality and correlated expenses.

7) Provide or coordinate in service training to claim and rehabilitation staff to enhance staff knowledge. Provide information to staff on what clinical resources are available.

8) Provide sales/service support internally and to employers and client companies through questionnaires, presentations and reports.

9) Keep abreast of current medical technology and utilize such when able.

10) Document claim files and systems in the approved format and in a clear, consistent and professional manner.

11) Identify cases with potential for changes in outcome plan.

12) Maintain a level of participation and commitment to individual, team, client companies, and company results. Note any trends that may be effecting liability and advise appropriate parties of such. Keep abreast of policy provisions and language on accounts serviced.

Job Requirements

Job related requirements include a proficiency in oral and written
communication. Must be fluent in Spanish and English with the ability
