Unit Shift Supervisor (Boulder, Montana)

Special Information:

The typical shift consists of four ten- hour days, including weekends/holidays. The adjudicated youth supervised are high-risk, impulsive adolescent females. The work environment requires constant vigilance & close attention to detail due to the risk of contraband being introduced & the risk of injury due to aggressive behavior. The incumbent is required to utilize non-violent verbal or physical crisis intervention techniques that may result in injury. The incumbent is also required to intervene in crisis situations such as escape, fire, flood, assault, etc. The duties of this position demand the individual have a demonstrated reliable work attendance history because this supervisor must be readily available to management, co-workers & adjudicated youth with respect to unit operations, including being the supervisor on site during evenings, weekends & holidays. This individual must have proven ability to remain calm in stressful situations such as adjudicated youth or staff conflicts. The individual is expected to role model good work & relationship habits as the supervisor of staff & adjudicated youth, including the ability to be flexible, patient and assertive, and demonstrate excellent communication skills.


Duties:
Ensures work by Correctional Counselors is accomplished according to supervisory directives, training, standards, procedures, and agency policies by providing job orientation, observing work in progress/reviewing written work, giving constructive feedback, consulting with other supervisory staff, and documenting performance as directed by supervisory staff and/or procedures.
Actively supervises adjudicated youth under a relationship based model, helps develop/facilitate individual treatment programs, and writes adjudicated youth evaluation reports for treatment team/progress meetings using guidelines and forms provided by the program.
Conducts safety and security inspections of the unit/facility during shifts to ensure security and safety systems are operating properly according to program policies and procedures.
Responds to facility staffing needs by adjusting staff schedules or calling in staff, following overtime policies/union contract, and adjusting own schedule if facility needs dictate.
Takes the lead in scheduling the daily housing unit activities to ensure all youth programming is completed in a timely, effective manner while demonstrating the ability to role model flexibility if needing to respond to immediate unscheduled needs of youth in crisis.

Knowledge of employee supervision practices and procedures; and of the forms and processes used in various record keeping duties.

Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; train, lead and review the work of others; prepare and maintain clear and concise records, reports and summaries; follow explicit oral and written instructions; interpret policies/procedures to those under supervision; act as a role model for staff and offenders; establish and maintain effective work relationships; react and respond promptly and calmly in emergencies; physically able to subdue and restrain aggressive, acting out youth; to set limits and enforce rules and routines.

Typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or Education and work experience. Three to four years job-related work experience and one year of progressively responsible supervisory experience is required. Working knowledge of a correctional setting is desired. Working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Word and other office equipment is required. A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the above listed degrees will be considered.

Duties:
Provides technical assistance to Department computer users by operating the Department's Help Desk using knowledge of PCs, their operating systems, midtier systems, Local Area Networks, PC software, telecommunications, diagnostic tools, and techniques of effective telephone communication all in accordance with ITIL best practices. Receives and processes requests from Department staff to run AS/400 procedures and regularly scheduled run requests, and month end procedure, using instructions found in ITB's run request manual. Monitors the Department's Wide Area Network, using automated tools, to ensure connectivity. Reports any disconnected or problematic lines to the Service Dest at ITSD. Educates users (one-on-one basis, over the telephone) on the use of various Department data systems, desktop software and computer operating systems, and tactfully suggests the use of “best practices” for data produced by those systems. Assists new users in logging on to systems and electing/changing their passwords; resets passwords, when necessary, assists with user profile configurations on physical and virtualized desktops. Receives and processes requests for new telephone services, changes in services or equipment and telephone moves using knowledge of the State’s standard equipment and procedures. Nurse Consultant (Helena Montana)

Provide strategic case management for long term TTD, PTD and PPD claims with complex medical issues to establish medical stability or claims closure. Conduct intensive files reviews, develop and implement long range action plan strategies that either lead to claims closure or medical stability. May serve as a medical resource for injured employees relating to diagnosis, treatment plan, or medical services.
