DEFINITION: Responsible for filling medication orders, maintaining stock, billing third parties for payment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires P.T.C.B. certification as Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Technician license issued by State of Montana Board of Pharmacy. Requires one year experience as Pharmacy Technician in retail, clinic or hospital pharmacy setting. Experience with FQCHC and Medicare Part D insurance billing preferred. Three years experience as Pharmacy Technician in retail, clinic or hospital setting may be considered in lieu of certification, in which case must pass P.T.C.B. certification as a Pharmacy Technician within six months of employment.

REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Facilitates prescriptions being properly billed. Controls use of 340B discount drugs used in Medicare Part D prescription drug plans as required by federal law and regulated by Federally Qualified Community Health Centers (FQCHCs). Interprets prescription orders, enters data into pharmacy system, prints labels and receipts, identifies insurance company to be billed, submits on-line essential data, fills and labels medication and sets up for pharmacist’s inspection. Orders, receives, stocks drugs. Implements and maintains controls to monitor and control medication inventory. Controls separation of types of medication stock. Files new prescriptions; locates prescriptions for refills. Maintains prescription records. Takes telephone requests for refills. Prepares logs and reports for pharmacy program and insurance billing. Participates in daily inventory of controlled substances. Maintains perpetual inventory of all medication. Acts as liaison between primary care providers, pharmacy students, other employees and PHC patients with regard to drug delivery system unique to FQCHCs. Assists Medication Assistance Program coordinator. Inventories and reports activity in Share the Care program. Trains and develops other technicians, students and interns. May collect payment and use cash register POS system. May help balance the POS system and troubleshoot errors for daily balance. Performs work-related tasks as assigned by Pharmacy Director.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Work commonly performed in office setting. Work performed while walking or standing most of the time. Requires considerable typing and computer use. Position requires multitasking and intense mental concentration in busy setting with distractions. Employee may risk exposure to communicable diseases. The job may require occasional medium lifting (21-50 lbs).
