Former owner name dated '84 in pencil. 296 pages. William Blaikie was a Physical trainer, born in New York City, New York, USA. One of America's pioneer physical educators, he wrote the best-selling How to Get Strong and How to Stay So (1879). He was graduated at Harvard in 1866, and at Harvard law school in 1868. In the following year he accompanied the Harvard crew to England as their secretary and treasurer. After a year as pardon clerk in the attorney general's office at Washington, and two years as assistant in the United States attorney's office in New York, he entered into active practice in the latter city in January 1873. For eight years he was commissioner of the United States court of claims.
