Children as young as four are able to start learning, and I teach from ages 4 to 20.

I use multiple methods of instruction, including Suzuki and traditional, and can teach a variety of genres (classical, folk, jazz, irish fiddle, gypsy, ect...)

I plan ahead for each lesson, with the goal in mind to learn something new, no matter how small, at every session. I either pick out or hand-write my own exercises for the student based on what I feel he/she wants to learn, as well as needs to learn.

Lessons can be done in 60 minute segments, otherwise they are done in 45 and 30 minute segments, and can be done most weekdays, as well as weekends.
I teach from the beginner level to advanced.

Keep in mind that you do NOT have to buy a violin if your child wants to start it. They are available for rent in multiple shops found all over Rhode Island, and the cost is inexpensive for rentals.

Piano Lessons (Matunuck, RI (South Kingstown))

Hello,

I am offering a fun, introductory, alternative-approach to learning piano, at my home or yours, for kids age 3-13. I am 28 years old and work as a Babysitter and substitute teacher in South County, RI. I also sing and play keyboard professionally around RI. I am looking to take on 2 more pupils at this time. My appointment times are flexible and I don't charge a cancellation fee. Voice lessons may be incorporated into the lesson times at no additional charge.

My rates are $20/half hour lesson, or $30 for a full hour. If I drive to you (within reason), I would ask for an additional $10 per lesson. I have an easily transportable keyboard I would use for lessons at my home or yours, unless you have a piano and prefer lessons there. My home is a 3 minute walk from the Ocean Mist and Tara's Joyce Family Pub, so you may easily grab a snack and take a walk on the beach during your child's lesson with me. I have a Master's Degree in Childhood Education and have worked part-time in education for 7 years.

I never learned how to play piano in the traditional manner. I teach music theory in a child-friendly way that incorporates play-by-ear and copy-me techniques. I provide bar graph paper for age-appropriate drawings (for younger kids we call these "maps") to draw out individual notes and chords. For very young kids (age 3-4), we identify the letters A-G and circle the notes we played. (I label my keyboard with letter stickers for this). We transfer these "maps" to flashcards and go through flashcards every lesson to strengthen sight-reading ability. I give challenges (one finger exercise per week) for students to work on at home. Lessons are primarily focused on having fun, and breaking up the lesson into smaller separate activities so the child doesn't bore or get frustrated during the lesson.
