A Novel Technique for Major Depressive Disorder (Davis/Sacramento)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for
TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION (TMS),
A Novel Technique, may have antidepressant affects for patients with Major Depressive Disorder


You may be eligible if you have
Major Depressive Disorder,
are between the ages of 22-68 years old,
and medication has not improved your symptoms



This study is a multicenter, randomized double blind, sham controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of H-coil deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS) as a treatment for patients with medication-resistant major depressive disorder. Studies of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), typically using a figure-8 coil, have shown that stimulating superficial brain regions can be beneficial in treating major depression. Differing from traditional figure-8 coil, the H-coil is designed to stimulate deep brain regions related to motivation, reward, and pleasure. The study population will consist of patients with major depressive disorder who have failed adequate medication treatment or shown significant intolerance to medications. The study duration is 18 weeks with a 2 week period of weaning the patient off medication, followed by 4 weeks of 5 daily treatments and 12 weeks of biweekly treatments. Mood and mental state will be carefully monitored through standard psychological scales and rating during the drug taper-down and throughout treatment.

Mobile Tattoos - illegal and not safe!

Of course they are. Do you think your house is really a sterile environment to do tattoos? Sure you may have a tidy crib but the risk of contamination is far greater than at a legal, county regulated and inspected tattoo facility. Tattoo shops have BUSINESS LICENSES, HEALTH DEPARTMENT INSPECTIONS, and can actually prove that the equipment they are using on you is sterile (it's called spore strip testing, you can look it up). You may be safe if your artist can provide a business license, a license from the Environmental Management Department, proof of passed spore strip testing, and has proof of how they dispose of their hazardous waste (needles in plastic water bottles tossed in the trash is a sad sad business) AND your tattoo area is uncarpeted, well ventilated, no fans, on non-pouris surfaces and materials properly cleaned with an effective germicide cleanser (household bleach won't cut it) and I guess I could keep going but I'm sure you get the point.

I'm sure there are a lot of cool artists out there who have no choice than to take on mobile tattoos thank to the suckish economy but while good and moral artists are a dime a dozen you've got lots of beginners who've seen some episodes of LA Ink and think being a tattoo artist is pretty awesome and they should give it a try. They have no idea the health risks they are putting on their customers when they think that using a boiling pan of water for 60 minutes is actually a good method for sterilizing.

Moral of my story, come to you tattoos are conveinent but are you sure you're willing to put your health on the line to save a bit of money? Besides shops nowadays (thanks again to the suckish economy) often will work with you on your budget and you can be sure that they are competely kosher.
