I AM SO GOOD AT DRIVING LOOK AT ME

Man, so I was driving on Westerly Parkway near the high school and this total DOUCHEBAG was all driving slow and shit. There were all these flashing lights and shit but I was too busy texting my bud talking about the sweet frat party we were going to go to tonight to read them. And I know it is 25 back there, but I usually go 40 because I am a badass like that and I got shit to do and places to be. So I pull into the center lane to pass this shit head and then there are all these high school dumb fucks just crossing in the middle of the road. There is even this guy just standing there with a sign. And I'm like "I don't have time for this brah." So I swerve through, giving one especially nerdy looking kid a good side swipe and sending him flying. Then, I speed up to my usual speed of 40, roll down my windows, and start blasting some Dave Matthews Band.
So yeah I totally agree with my bros here and all you assholes crying tailgaters need to speed it the fuck up man. Seriously, if you aren't going over the speed limit at all time by at least 10 mph then you need to pull over, let the people pass, then get out and hang yourself.

Just to address the problem (and I agree that the problem is absurd in this area) of driving too slow. In Pennsylvania if you are driving 10 miles an hour BELOW the speed limit, then you are impeding the flow of traffic and are breaking the law. I know a few people who have received fines for this and I wish more people either learned about this rule by reading the manual or from being pulled over.
I like this law for driving in California; if you are at any speed below the posted limit and there are 5 vehicles or more behind you (given there is nothing interfering with normal flow of traffic such as roadway obstructions.bad weather, etc), it is the law that you pull over/off the road at the next, safe place and allow the traffic to proceed. That, is a great law!

They got everyone used to just being lazy and saying "pedestrians have the right of way", and repeated it for so long now that people think that's what the law says.

You're wrong, doofus. I won't do your homework for you, but the pedestrian law doesn't say that at all. In fact, pedestrians are actually required to wait for any and all traffic, if the traffic is close enough to be considered a hazard.....and that pretty much applies to any vehicle anywhere near a crosswalk. Pedestrians are forbidden, by law, from stepping out whenever they feel like it, as they do it around here.

And didn't I tell you that people around here would point to the mile of cars on their ass and cry "tailgater"? Thanks for proving my point, moron. Yes, a mile of cars on your ass really does mean you are the problem. Take your time with that one and we'll hope it sinks in eventually.

Drive

First, a speed limit is a speed limit. Period. Doesn't matter if there are a hundred cars behind you. In Pennsylvania, only the turnpike has a minimum speed. Second, you must yield to a pedestrian. Instead of going to court to argue a technicality of exactly where the pedestrian's feet are, pay the fine and shut the hell up. Third, it's illegal to back across the centerline of any road. For college students, you are the biggest bunch of stupid fucking idiots on the planet.

Well, I agree with the rest of your post except this, and to a extent. I agree that drivers in this area have no idea how to maintain a safe traveling speed, and traveling distance. However, some of us learned growing up to NEVER speed-up to get away from a tailgater. In fact, if I am traveling the speed limit, I hate tailgaters. Remember to keep at least 1-car's length for every 10mph you are traveling. So, if you're going 55mph, try and keep at least 5.5 car lengths away in order to have enough time to respond to something unexpected. I honestly don't care if I am going 30mph in a 25-zone, and everyone behind me wants to go 45mph. It's not your right; it's not anyone's right to break the law. (With exceptions, like emergency personnel responding to an emergency.) Well, i'm already technically speeding, so I don't see the problem you may have with my speed.

What really grinds my gears are drivers in any state who do not follow the proper driving etiquette to keep to the right lane when not passing anyone. Seriously, it's not that hard. Quit cruising in the left like some self important jerk. If everyone stays right, and only passes slower moving cars in the left, the travel patterns will improve in quality. Pennsylvania, and centre region in particular, seems to have this problem in spades. I really wish the State Troopers, and local Police would spend more time enforcing this LAW, and pulling motorists over for it on a more regular basis. I have zero remorse for people who get traffic citations, because even though cars these days have gotten safer, we still have laws and laws must be obeyed. It's still very dangerous to drive around, and crashing one's car is not only potentially damaging to the driver, but inconvenient for all those involved. And this is coming from someone who was not only cited for a traffic violation in my youth, and someone who was hit by a speeding driver who ran a red light.

If I am traveling too slow for you, buddy, use the left lane and pass me. Of course, if it's a one lane road, and I am traveling the speed limit, then back off and you're just struck traveling at the limit for that road. Get used to it. Enjoy the drive, even? Put on some tunes, sit back and relax. How hard is that?

I actually TRY to be in sight of a Bellefonte cop when I go past the courthouse area, so he can see me doing the 25MPH speed limit and not screeching to a halt for someone who is not crossing the street (but rather standing and waiting, as they are required to do). I want to get stopped for that so badly! Like you, I'll walk into court with a smile and embarrass a cop for not knowing the law. I would try to add to the court hearing that all Bellefonte cops be required to take a course in the pedestrian law, too. They seem to think that putting lime-green pylons in a crosswalk that say "yield to pedestrians" supercedes the law. GOOD FOR YOU for taking them to court and proving that they DON'T know the pedestrian law.

I agree with everything you posted!! The one thing I wanted to point out was that in Bellefonte the cops wait and watch at the pedestrian crossing. If you do not stop for the person standing on the curb they WILL pull you over and fine you!! I know, they did it to me. I fought the ticket and won but so many people don't. So, beware in Bellefonte. This town is so desperate for money thet will do anything to get it. Bellefontes finest, that's what we laughingly call the cops there.

Pedestrians and drivers and the pedestrian law.....now that's a killer around here. Nobody has a clue about that law. The law is so basic and straightforward: you have to stop for someone who is already crossing the road, not for someone who is standing there and waiting to cross. Oh, but not around here.....drivers think they have to stop for any human seen anywhere near a crosswalk, crossing or not. The law actually says the pedestrian has to wait (yes, wait) if a vehicle is close enough to be considered a hazard. Sorry, pedestrians.....you don't have blanket crossing rights.

Cruise the Benner Pike at "rush hour" (pun intended), any day of the week, and you're guaranteed to see some moron who doesn't know where the 55MPH zone starts and ends between Bellefonte and State College. On the Bellefonte end, it's 55MPH right about at the bowling alley, and on the State College end it starts just past where the old Ben Franklin used to be. In between those two points, every inch of the way, it's a 55MPH zone!

I like when there's about three snowflakes in the air and the drivers around here freak out.....it's hilarious! Never mind that the steady traffic has basically cleared the road surfaces....there's snow in the air or in the forecast! Save yourself! Save the children! The sky is falling! Sheesh. The same goes for rain, and is most hilarious when it's the lightest of mists. Save yourself! Drive sloooooowly!

Good grief.....if the weather, or the traffic, or pedestrians, or anything else during your driving experience makes you so nervous that you're a hazard to the rest of the drivers (who know how to drive in any conditions), get the hell off the road!

First, you get the drivers handbook from the D.O.T., not at the barracks(?) of the state police. You can also access the handbook online; you should especially take note of - "Signaling when changing direction.

Learn How to Drive! (State College)

Come on State College/Pennsylvania drivers, it is pretty simple. Not a day goes by that I don’t see stupid driving habits whether I am immediately behind someone, several vehicles away, or just observing as a pedestrian. Use your indicator ~100 feet before you need to make your turn. Signaling 10 feet before your corner or driveway is practically useless and it is no wonder you end up with people on your ass, they have no idea why you are slowing down or braking until the last second.
That center lane, the one with the solid yellow lines on the outside and the broken yellow lines inside, that is a left-turn lane. You can use this when you are backing/pulling out onto a street or making a turn onto/from another street. You do not have to wait for a break in the traffic (this is a perfect time to learn how to use your indicator).
Actually take a moment to take a look and exercise decent judgment. If there is only one car left in a line of traffic, wait for it to go by.
And, learn how to merge. F*&%ing idiots!

Most banks have overdraft fees comparable to your $38.50. If you only have balances of $4.99 in your checking account, then it doesn't make sense at that level to be using a bank at all. (at least not for such small transactions) The high overdraft fees are put in place to protect banks from much larger checking overdrafts, which makes sense.

And so what if they're part of the bailout list? It's probably harder to find businesses who aren't on the list in one way or another than those who are....

I am from Jeannette Pa and a supporter of Terrelle Pryor, I am a 47 year old woman that went to the game at Penn State to cheer on my hometown kid. I was treated horribly by many many of the Penn State fans, I mean I can not express the comments and the actions of ALOT of the Penn State fans. I have gone to many many away college and NFL (Steeler) games and never have I come across the rude and unacceptable behavior that I experienced at "Happy Valley". There is no excuse for this behavior, not only by students but adults also. I have cheered on Penn State when not playing against my team but never again. I have been acrossed our country and I have to say the rudest people are in my own backyard. I can understand banter but it was way way beyond banter. Young or old, I would like to tell all their mothers and grandmothers exactly how they treated someone elses mother. I am so sure that they would be as upset or more so then I am. I have never insinuated that I wasn't going to pay Nittany Bank the money owed. What I did say was I made a math error when I was paying bills, and $25 error turned into a $147 error when you add fees. I screwed up, absolutely. (Not sure if a math error while paying bills is the same thing as being irresponsible with my money, but that's another story.) But I still think that almost six times the original error in fees is a little ridiculous.

On to Nittany Bank: Nittany Bank is local to Pennsylvania, but not to State College. It was purchased by National Penn in, I believe, 2006. It is owned by shareholders just like any national bank. On 12/12/2008, it received $150,000,000 in bailout money. http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/storysupplement/bankbailout/ (Search for Penn to find it.)

I did want to find out who ING is owned by (as the bailout point is a good one). It appears to be a multi-national bank with Dutch origins. It has a decent corporate responsibility policy across a number of areas (e.g. "people" here: http://www.ing.com/group/showdoc.jsp?docid=413660_EN&menopt=cre|emp ). It does not appear to have received bailout money.

But look, the whole point was this - a $38.50 overdraft fee is a bit ridiculous for a $4.99 purchase. If you considered that lending (I'll lend you $4.99 but you have to pay it back within a month with $38.50 interest) it would be illegal (usury is the word, I believe). When I was younger, that fee would have been $15. But banks nickle and dime us to death for honest mistakes, and I think it's wrong.

I'll pay the money. But I'm still too much of a broke grad student to have niceness of NB's part make up for me scraping by this month cause I make one math error. And ING has no overdraft fees - not sure where you looked, but that was in an e-mail I received (which made me decide to do it). And I've had ING for savings for along time now, and I'd always been pleased w/their service.

I guess the best solution is to sign up with a credit union.

I agree with you on local banking. I belong to Corning Federal Credit Union and you couldn't ask for a nicer group of people!! I have direct deposit so I'm not there very often but when I do go in they always know me. As far as the overdrafts, the few times I've bounced a check I was charged $20.00. Nothing else. i agree with that response on local banks. i bank at pnc. i usually do everything online or at the atm. however, when i do have to go in or even the drive thru, the ladies there know our names, know a lot about us and thru the hundreds of customers they have, they REMEMBER us.. and the customer service they provide for us, that makes me want to stay with them. ive had a LOT of over drafts because it was MY FAULT not theirs. they always offer me a check register book, even though i dont use checks, i should keep record in the check register book. that would prevent ods. anyhow. i dont take it because like i said i rely on the online banking. if i have an over draft thats my own fault. supporting banks like ing and bank of america, is like supporting the governments bailout program for banks that screw up. if we dont get a bailout for our screw ups why should they. they took peoples money and screwed people over and the govt rewarded them. by leaving a local bank and going to them, its like i said agreeing with the bailout, which none of us see. To the OP: you overdrew, that's your own fault. It's apparently cool to say "hey, I messed up but I'll blame the bank and switch anyways" right now - just check cnn.com, for example.

That aside, I cannot believe anyone would dump a local bank for a large national bank. I walk into Nittany Bank and I'm greeted by name. They have comparable or better interest rates than the national banks in town (at least when I last checked). And I'm darn willing to bet they'll do more in service than any 24-hr phone line from a larger company. ING's website doesn't say anything about no overdraft fees.

I would still recommend local over national any time. Nittany Bank has been nothing but terrific (I've even gotten personalized phone calls when I first moved in!). Just because one person overdrafted their account and blamed the bank and moved on, doesn't mean the grass is any greener on the other side of the fence. Nittany Bank, national bank, or any other bank, if you're irresponsible with your money you're still gonna get hosed.

I was the original poster re: Nittany Bank. And yes, when I wrote them that I'm closing my account they offered to wipe out all the fees if I'd keep it open. But I think I've found a much better option - I've been using ING bank as a savings account only for awhile, but turns out they offer checking, too. No overdraft fees, no monthly service charge, and no fee for using a different ATM.

Just call you bank or stop by & ask them if they can do anything for you. I'm sure if you've been a customer for a while & don't make a habit of asking them to help you out, they can and or probally will do something for you. They can be sympathic even though they are a bank.

It was late, I was paying bills, and I made a stupid mistake in my math. That resulted in my thinking I had more money in my account than I did, and I overdrew it by $25. The lovely fees that accompanied each withdraw made my $4 Irving's smoothie cost $42.50, and the overall balance went from -$25 to -$147.

I know, I was stupid. I messed up. I'm sorry. But gosh, $38.50 for every overdraft fee? $38.50??

And I already live close enough to the edge (obviously) that covering that $147 on payday is going to hurt.

Yoga is good for anyone. Very relaxing and good for the mind as well. Don't be intimidated. Let them laugh all they want, but a bunch of hot chicks stretching in spandex should be all the motiviation you need to go. If you feel uncomfortable going to a class, just do the youtube yoga stuff. It's just as good and you can do it in the privacy of your own home.

Hey, I think I made the "retreads" list! I've posted in the past about how I hate dumbass pedestrians who think they have an automatic right-of-way (they don't - read the pedestrian law), I tailgate drivers who have no clue what a speed limit is, and drivers who freak out at the first sign of a raindrop or snowflake (morons). I don't have a truck anymore, but I can do these things in the car I now drive. Do I still qualify for the "retreads" list if I switched vehicles without switching my driving habits since I posted last?

When service is bad in a restaurant or a store... i am glad for the warning posted on craigslist. i would prefer not to waste my time or money on a place that will not treat me well. So if someone wants to repeat their warnings to save us all the hassle of a bad experience, more power to them.
i went to the restaurant that was mention and wish i had read the rant before hand ...my experience there was just as bad as described.
maybe customer service would improve in these stores and restaurants if more people read these rants and raves and just stopped going to them.
the owners might take notice of the lack of sales coming in and actually try to improve things for their customers to want to come back.

First off, the origional dog owner should be responsible enough to stop breeding dogs. There are already far too many unwanted and abused animals out there. Second, anyone who sells or gives a dog to a young person who is in college or living with their parents is a complete moron. What is going to happen with those animals when they interfere with your "partygoing" or you graduate? the hostess is busy fooling around with the owner, the wait staff is busy smoking or bitching about the kitchen staff. the bartenders are busy flirting,
the manager is busy doing crosswords and the owner is busy getting drunk.
there is no time for customers there, since they are all so busy doing their own things.
they all seem very annoyed to have to do their jobs, all because you came in and they show it with the lack of good service and lack of respect.
but yet they all still expect to be tipped. imagine that.
