Online Tutors Needed (State College Area)

Description:

TutorChatLive.org is currently recruiting volunteers to tutor online starting when we relaunch the site on January 18, 2010.

The main responsibility is tutoring students who request our free, live help. Our service is open and available to anyone that can access the website. Tutors work from the comfort of their own homes/offices on their computer and chat one-on-one with students in an instant messaging-type program. Tutors have many tools at their disposal such as the ability to link the student with online resources, draw on a virtual whiteboard, and transfer the chat to other available tutors online should they need further assistance.

Tutors can tutor in any subject area for which they have knowledge of, at least at the middle school/high school level. Math/science is of high demand, but not required.

We are very flexible with scheduling but request at minimum that tutors be online for two hours a week and commit to six months of tutoring with our service.

If you are a high school student in need of community service hours, we will gladly provide those.

Application:

Please apply online at our (soon to be redesigned) website at http://www.tutorchatlive.org.

Once we receive and review your application, you will be contacted to set up a phone meeting where we will discuss more about our program and give you the opportunity to ask questions.

Next, telephone orientations will take place late November/early December at which point we will teach tutors the ins and outs of the site and chat program for preparation for our launch on January 18, 2010.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at admin@tutorchatlive.org

We hope to hear from you soon!

Join the Street Team for a disabled veteran (Center Cty.)

Marine SGT David Emery was severely injured from a suicide bomber while serving in Iraq in February 2007. The impact of his injuries resulted in a double leg amputation.

Homes For Our Troops wants to build a specially adapted home for SGT Emery and his daughter to help them move forward in his recovery. But we need your help!

Join the Street Team to raise awareness in the central PA area to get others involved to donate their time, skill or supplies toward the construction of this home.
You can get others involved as well to help with this effort!

Just click on the link below to find more information regarding SGT Emery's story and a .pdf file which contains a flyer that can be printed/distributed/displayed around town.

Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit, non-partisan, 501 (c)(3) organization founded in 2004. This organization is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. We assist severely injured Servicemen and Women and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and then coordinating the process of building a new home or adapting an existing home for handicapped accessibility. The finished home is then given to the veteran.
